A creative upcycle trick: use old wood blinds for the slat wood. Less cutting and cheap;-)
That. Is. Genius.
Or pallets... did a similar project with pallets without disassembling them fully. Just some cuts and screwing together.
Too thin untreated wood, wouldn't last a year outside 👎
@@thedj5914 you can stain and treat the wood.
For outdoor use is better to stick to pressure treated wood
Literally what i was looking for! So simple and way to follow. Can’t wait to try it !!
This makes me so happy! I hope you’ll share your project with me!
@@diyhuntress can you plz link the exact wood stain plz
Everything is turning out so great! Thank you so much for always including your materials in your blog posts. Finding the right type of lumber for projects is very intimidating to me, so it’s very helpful to have that!
Thank you! So glad it’s helpful! 💓
I have built 6 wooden planters out of cedar wood, varnished them and they look so beautiful my neighbors love them
I just made these, but I added 4 inch hairpin legs. I will be using them on a covered porch. I love the design.
Those are really great and look high end trendy resort! I would add some LED lights with exterior solar chargers in the bottom half of each. Would look super cool at night and provide you with some entryway path light
Thank you so much for sharing this FYI. This was super easy and fun to make! Love the outcome…we took this idea and made 8 feet long planter boxes. Wish I could share a picture to show off 😉. Thank you thank you thank you!
I would love to see how your 8ft planters came out I was thinking of the same thing to extend them longer width wise to fill more of the back yard. Is there a way for you to share a picture?
What size spacer did you use between the slats
These look real nice minimalistic like Scandinavian style.
simple but nice planter box. love the front entrance of yr shop
Hey thx for this! Yes those of us with lumber hoarding habits (including myself) srsly need an anon group.....cheers from Toronto!
Pure Awesomeness!!!!
Beautiful planters
Hi, thanks for the explanation, what type of wood is used for exterior cladding, what is the thickness of the wood, what is the width of the wood. Thanks
SO NICE!!Adds such a nice element of home and shop! Great job!
Thank you! 🥰
Hi Sam...beautiful planters...I love them...Take care...stay safe...
Thank you! You too!
Nice job, and yes that olympic deck stain is great, awesome product. I dont recommend using a sealer like poly on anything outside that gets weathered or sun on it, it will always need resealing every year recommended, even the marine varnish also. At 2 years often u will have peeling poly , if it is a porch ceiling that is about only place i use it exterior, other than that i use porch and deck stains that last much longer. Like front doors and shutters i use a product called siekens i think is how it is spelled, it was bought by ppg a couple years ago so it is a ppg product now, but it is a great product.
Love the planters 👍
I think the way you did it, I think it looks good . U would end up with gaps as the wood dries out anyways so i think this was the best choice.
Love love love them !
What an amazing coincidence. I was recently thinking of the same - using cheap lumber with a cedar-like stain and waterproof finish to build a raised bed and a shower bench (Was just researching Olympic vs Thompson’s). The timing of your video is perfect. Your project turned out beautifully, and the color looks just like cedar.
Yesss! Thank you!
It’s not coincidence though JW….. it’s UA-cam/Facebook/Instagram/Google/Alexa etc, etc all tracking your searches, your queries, your thoughts that you’ve discussed or videos you’ve watched etc….
I’m not knocking it. It is what it is in 2021.
good idea
Love these!! This is making me think of other projects I’d like to see you do. How about a little privacy screen in the same style? Or a mailbox holder… I feel like I’ve already asked you about that last one.
Turned out really nice for a really simple build, thank you.
Thank you!
It’s beautiful, I just made mine today! Thank you for great detailing video!
Love these beautiful planter you made.

Great Job!!!!
They are amazing 💚
Thank you!
I love those, they look so good outside and easy to do too xx
Good work 💯🎯
These planters are so beautiful. Do you think I could put a round plastic planter inside if I measure it right?
Can you share the link to the exact stain you used ? Would like to get the same replica. Yours looks Amazing
Love this!!!! Can’t wait to make some for my house 😊😊
It´s good!
Excellent!
Very cute
Perfect timing. I needed a project for MDW and just in time for summer on the patio! 🙌🏽 👍🏽 Now I just need to sell a kidney to afford the wood 🤣😅
Is it cheaper to buy or make? I don’t have a cutter, I have to wink at the lumber store to have the guys cut it. Lololol
@@sandrab2422 depends if you buy you could obviusly buy a plastic 3 dollars planter but I would say that for quality is cheaper to made
How does the water drain out plastic the planter?
Through holes in the bottom.
Great planter . Thanks for sharing .. what nails u used to fix it ?
Simple but beautiful. Do you think there will be an issue with glue over the stain? I’m a beginner so I don’t know. 🤷🏻♂️
👌 nice
Thank you!
Beautiful!!! What kind of plants are they?
Nice video
Thank you!
How does it look after 1 year
Awesome planters!! What camera do you use to shoot your videos??
Love this but wish the materials list was included down below. When I click on the project on your website, it takes me nowhere...
The reason I link the materials list on my website is because it comes with step-by-step plans that are much easier to print out as a whole and bring with you to the hardware store. The link has been working for many people, so you may need to clear your browser or turn off an ad blocker. Please let me know if you need more help!
why it is you all feel everybody has a wood work shop and all the tools. i wont even bothering watching this video. Give people projects that they could do at home with simple everyday home tools. geez man.
👍👍👍
😁
Don’t you need to wait 4 months or so to paint pressure treated wood?
You just have to wait until it’s dry! ☺️
Amazing and cool, but that plant has mealy bugs
Oh heyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Hey girl heyyyy. 😘
Amazing as always Sam!! 🙌🙌🙌 I LOVE a good planter project 😍
Thank you! 😘
Can you tell me which stain you used the shade and the company I will try to find something similar here
What stain color and brand did you use? It’s awesome !
Oh just a miter saw, a drill, and a nail gun... Total - About $300 PLUS another $125 if you want a decent drill...
People don't know how good they have it, Till they don't.
Absolutely LOVE those planters! I'm definitely going to make some of these for the front of my house! Thank you for your awesome tutorial!
Thank you very much for this video. I think and feel that you´re loveable !!! With this video you gave me some hints to solve a related isue !!! I already subscribed to your chanel because I suspect that I´ll find much more valuable hints in it !!! Thank you again.
God blesses you !!!
Sam I admire you so much! Having a full time job and still find the time to make all this awesome projects. You are amazing!
Thank you for the love! It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it! 💓
7:10 yeah i tried doing regular butt joints but my husband's OCD started acting up and next thing you know he was mitering my damn slats..... it's so hard to DIY when you have a finish carpenter lurking around your house. 😏
Lemme do it myself!
I love this! Thank you!
I was looking for something as tall as this and simple to make to place along my property line, and this is perfect for them! I plan to place ornamental grasses on them.
Beyond excited to make them! 😍😍
These planters look amazing! [Waited til the video was over to comment, but insta-liked the video]
Thank you so much!
That’s because we have a good eye. I did the same👋👋👋
Nice job ...I hate that the wood stain will get dirty ... in the future will look dirty and then will never be the same and impossible to clean
In the middle of binge watching your channel there's a new video, yay!
Seriously though I am loving your channel. You are so inspiring for this gal who wants to start doing DIY so badly but has literally no experience. Keep doing what you do!
Ahhh - so glad you’re here! We all start somewhere! You’ve got this! 🙌🏼
These are fantastic! Wowsers 😳 Thank you so much for sharing!
Beautiful and simple. Thank you!
What a great idea! I love the fact that you use a plastic planter inside!
How about in rainy season. Will this planters will survive
Отлично 👍!! Очень здорово смотрится!!!!
I see milwaukee, dewalt, and ryobi tools 🤔
Me having no tools: Yes, this looks doable
Which plastic planters did you buy
Can u write down all that dimensions and if its in inch or cm
Very nice, also nice to see someone repping the 516.
what did these end up costing in materials?
Use clamps when drilling please. Safer and more accurate.
This is really coool! I likes it! 😁 But I must call you out on not using gloves! You might damage one of those fancy nails! 🤔😳😬😁😀😂 Seriously, these looked really good, and I completely agree on your choice not to miter the corners! Even though these were small miters, they may still have opened up over time. Nice saw! I would kindly suggest you try a Makita blade, or other brand. I know a lot of people think there ain’t nothing like a Freud blade, and they are good, but I think Makita blade is better. Sliders need a different hook angle on the teeth. Stay safe and Healthy! 👍👍👍👍👍👍😁✌🏻🇺🇸
U looks perfect in this video... 👍
Hi is that 16g nails or 18g nails and are they stainless for outside use any help appreciated
Definitely not 16g as those would be bigger and more visible. The plans call for brad nails, but its even hard to see those marks in the video.
Super cool. Really, Really cool. And yes, a huge impact against the grey. Hoping all is well Kid, Dirty Jersey out!!
Will water won't damage the woods ...
I love them. 😊 No mitres. 👍😉 Plastic inserts. 👍😊 Beautiful. 👍💖
Thank you!
Awesome project sam. Good job. In south africa them slatted planter would be around 1500 to 2500. Looking foward to the next 1.
What is the width of the spacer that you used?
BEUATIFUL DESIGN LOVE IT!!
I'm so glad I happened upon your channel! These planters are ridiculously stunning! Beautiful job.
Love these planters, I'm making sevral in different sizes. Awesome work ,please keep it up. Greetings from Australia..
I only have one power tool... :(
Those 2x2s look almost like some that I picked up off the roadside walking through my neighborhood when we were on lockdown, and carved a couple of St. Nicholas' from. I painted one red and the other green.
Excellent job on this project Sam! Keep up the great work!
These look so good! Really well done; and a fantastic, perfectly pitched little video. ATB from England
