Horse breeders are disgusting. They treat the animals like crops. When the horses get past their prime, or aren't competitive, they send them to be auctioned off and slaughtered.
Not all Amish are cruel to animals. I have friends that are Amish and they take care of their animals very well and do not abuse them. So NOT ALL Amish are like that.
l have seen a vast difference in the different communities. Some cruel so-called training practices where l was sorely tempted to report them. But thankfully most keep their horses in good health. l haven't seen a large scale problem of skinny scruffy overworked horses. And l'll defend this area's horses- they are beautiful and loved.
@@janicemitich3023 And many of these horses fresh from the track can go straight to slaughter too. And I live near 2 Amish communities. They don't do puppy mills.
Not all Amish are cruel..I've been on Many trail rides where non-.amish abuse there horse as they drink on trail rides..And kick and abuse horse when they are drunk..Don't blame always the amish blame the owner period!
go to any auction, anywhere and the look in the eye of every horse is the same..I exist. i need, i belong, i need...buy a horse at auction, get a loyal partner for life. don't pick on the amish, they live differently... many horses are auctioned off.. all have more to offer. auctions are a way for us to help, make a difference.. take a cast off an make it bloom. Priceless.
Ive been to New Holland. I know these people. I've met them.I understand. Don't judge. The horses brought can be bought by us as well as the killers. go. Buy. Change outcomes.
Charming... except for the part not shown, the vast numbers of used-up Amish work horses and Standardbreds and mules which go through the New Holland auction bound for slaughter via some truly horrendous treatment. Perhaps not all the Amish abuse horses at auctions (seen it with my own eyes), but what are they doing as a community to either humanely destroy or retired their aged horses? Nothing, last time I checked. Sent instead to auctions like New Holland and Sugar Creek which are places of unspeakable horror and staffed largely by Amish men and boys. If things have changed since I rescued a mare from Sugar Creek, I'd love to hear about it.
Linda Broussard - the Amish will send a horse to Hell without a care. They will squeeze the last bit of life and usefulness out of any animal before they stop feeding it and dump it at an auction. Many good animals have been wasted and badly abused by the Amish. Their “training” practices are abusive and cruel. They are right on the edge in their business dealings. They will swap pedigree papers from deceased superior stock and put it on inferior stock to make an extra buck. Fortunately, the “English” knew enough German to catch them. For every Amish that takes good care of their animals a 1,000 do not. Horrible people. I live in an area populated by Amish. It’s depressing. Cult. Believe they are superior. It’s all about tax free cash money.
I agree 'some' Amish do not care for their horses as most of us would like to see. Cruelty to horses is seen in every aspect of the horse world. Go behind the scenes of horse shows, especially the saddle horse breed shows.... walk thru the barns, peek into the tack stalls, cruel bits, etc are used.
have been to Mel's twice, always found clean, water and hay for my horses, some of the horses were not in their prime, but were still cared for, like every thing need to go see how they work. found Mel to be very friendly, and did not hear anything about sending horses to kill.
The Amish are very cruel and uncaring with all animals unlucky enough to be in their care and control .. I don't believe God approves of that AND the incest that is rampant behind closed doors in those families.
Friends of mine who have sent their horses to be trained by the Amish have gotten their horses back in very poor condition and this has happened to several people. The puppy mills that these people run are horrible. While you watching this video check out how tight they keep the overchecks on these horses.
Ashley my dad took a pair of miles to Amish for training, what he took was a matching pair of extremely tame, gentle miles and what he got back was unfriendly, ruined miles that could no longer be handled. He didn't know better at the time.
Ashley Amish training is cruel and abusive. A friend rescued a driving pony from the Amish - it had a broken jaw and swollen head. Long story short she put lots of time into him. In the end he blew up at a carriage show and bolted - cart over turned she was injured. Fortunately there were knowledgeable attendees. It could have been far worse. Whatever the Amish did to him ruined his mind.
How about we get concerned and deal with all the babies being murder everyday before we get to concerned about and old horse being put out of its misery!
Robin Marshall where do you get that from?? There are all kinds of "horsemen", some better than others, whether they are Amish or "English". Look at some other comments on here. I know of horses that were sent to Amish for training and came back destroyed because they were worked basically to death. You need to go to some of the farms and observe before you make a comment such as the one you have made. You do a great disservice to post such a statement.
Maybe the weirdest comment section on the internet. Thanks for sharing this nice video and culture.
Can someone explain to me how auctions work!? Thnx

how many Amish get their animals taken away compared to non Amish? think about it. watch animal cops. I've never seen an Amish farm get raided
They are infamous for their puppy farms. Many of their older horses go to kill buyers for slaughter.

amish thinking...youll go to hell if you drive a car...but you can abuse one of gods creatures.. makes sense
yeah, idiots
You have no idea
Kinda funny some of these comments. Look at yourselves meaning 'the English' before passing judgement.
Hello Holland
Yea right, amish might a bbn use horses, but English teach there kids to play war games and not wanna work and not respect their elders

If u think amish are terrible, look at the English. They don't abuse horses, they abuse people, shoot up schools, drive drunk, do heroin, etc.

+equiner7 This is true, but all it tells me is that there are many, many battles to fight for animal rights. This is only one of them.
You have. I idea what your talking about horses yes cruelty happens but not all horse owners are bad

When is the next auction scheduled?
I was over there for the mule auction.

At least they don't kill their kids.
Amish people have been known to use barb wire as a bit with a rebellious horse.
you obviously have no clue what you are talking about
I was Amish for 33 years and dealt in horse's and that is something I never witnessed!
I was told this is James O's dad
Not mention where’s all taxes on the Cash they Bring in

not so much here, using horses bought and sold... when Mel travels to do other auctions theres more, its a service
The Amish people are the best horseman of all and take the best of care of their livestock.

The person taking the video should be ashamed of themselves. They made zero attempts to respect the amish beliefs about photography and videos.
The Amish will not willingly face a camera, or have a picture taken up close, but this a wide angle anonymous video
