    The song is about all this glorified talk about rising up and uniting into this global super power. It's uplifting and inspiring. The reason for the ending is in the name 'collateral damage'. You hear the children playing and laughing, you hear the jets come in and then there is nothing. It is a sombre reminder that people are caught in the crossfire and innocent die on a daily basis. It's a counterpoint to the energy of the song.

    I’m not sure how anyone could be bored by a beautifully played classical piece by Chopin, but we all have our preferences. I think it perfectly fits onto the ending of the song, and in the album, leads perfectly to the next. But hey, appreciate you not pretending to like something just to please people.

    • @JayJ1095
      @JayJ1095 2 роки тому

      Personally (although this one I don't mind because I like the piece more than some of the others) there's an element of the "slow (classical) piano outro" thing that I don't like. Or, at least, I think a more energetic ending would work better.
      That said, you're right. The jet sound does fit into the start of Guiding Light perfectly. And I can tell that because I automatically knew/remembered that was the next track just from that sound alone.
      Also, from listening to the review, I do think it's kind of funny that the one bit of the song that David thinks is the same as other muse songs is the bit written by someone else generations before the song was released.

    • @brandonb.5304
      @brandonb.5304 2 роки тому +7

      @@JayJ1095 Eh, but the song is about power-hungry leaders destroying what's left of world civilization to consolidate power for their own personal ambitions at the detriment of humanity. I think a comedown in energy into a somber elegy is the direction the song needed to end on. The ending is quite literally children being bombed by fighter jets. You'd have to completely change the song and its meaning if you wanted an energetic ending, and Muse has plenty of songs that end energetically, so that wouldn't be anything new anyway. Matt's never ended a song with a cover of a classical composer, so yeah, maybe the classical style isn't new to Muse, but they've never done a straight cover of one of their favorite classical pieces for an album.

    • @JayJ1095
      @JayJ1095 2 роки тому

      @@brandonb.5304 oh yeah! Thematically it works. It's just I think it would be better musically to have a more powerful and final ending to the song.
      Also, I was mainly thinking of the end of the globalist (the Elgar piece) that I don't really like as much as the Chopin.

      I totally agree, I mean what more you want respectfully, it's a symphony, great base, great piano, great guitar, great singing, beautiful arabian melody, Chopin, Queen and it's all in one song. And you say this is old I get it. I mean I heard metallica yesterday 4 songs from different albums sounded the same to me and it was just electric guitar and James screaming. What's new Metallica ? We could say the same thing to Queen too that's how they sound like in all their songs. We get it David you don't like Symphony and classicals

    The lead singer is a really great piano player, I think they added the Chopin piece at the end of the song basically so he could record it on an album, and he arranged the strings and voices for the Chopin piece.

    The word you're looking for is 'homage' to Queen. A famous era of queen was the soundtrack to Highlander: there can be only one... The piano outro evokes the peace and calm of a place before being destroyed by a cruise missile (not a jet). I'd rather not leave out the actual point of the whole song...

    People choose wierd Muse stuff for you. Most of their songs are just straightforward rocking songs. This one would be about 150 on my list.

  • @amassaic
    @amassaic 2 роки тому +1

    Technically it’s two songs. The song is a political statement. The piano section of “Collateral Damage” is basically creating the image of exactly its name - collateral damage. First you hear the children playing in the background over the piano and next you hear American jet planes fly over presumably bombing the area. Those children = the collateral damage.
    In the “United States of Eurasia” part, you hear the middle eastern sounding breakdown section as well signifying the US and Europe’s incursion into those lands. This was released at the height of the Iraq and Afghan wars - Bush Jr. era.
    This track wasn’t meant to be a a single for mass consumption. And Muse make no bones about how this song is a homage to Queen as well.
    I know you don’t factor in lyrics but sometimes they matter to understand the context of songs and WHY musicians do what they do.

    A fine example of mindset limits....on your part! 😀 Also, who does not love Chopin's Nocturne E Flat Major, Opus 9 No 2? Well, I get you, but, there are times in our existence when instantly "getting it" does not occur, and in many cases, we need to dig a bit deeper to truly comprehend an artist's (Any Artist!!) intent! Lot's of possible reasons but, that song title, and closing lyric "United States of Eurasia" embraces the darkness, and thematic statements in George Orwell's 1984. Read it, and then listen all the way again, and think about that Jet Bomber Sound at the very end. Place yourself, and open up your imagination.....be there 🙂.

    I'm guessing that the interludes are probably there just as much to compliment and bridge to the next track with Muse. As with any other band and album, any specific song taken out of the context of the track running may not play out the same as a stand alone as it would within the complete picture.

    Muse - algorithm (alternate reality) is a great track to try out!
