- My name is Sara welcome to my channel Crochet for Baby. In today's crochet video tutorial I will show you this crochet sweater for boys from 5 to 6 years. You can also make this crochet pullover sweater for girls in the exact same way and you can make this crochet sweater smaller or bigger. See below.
For this crochet sweater for boys and girls I used a variation of the crochet alpine stitch and it’s for 5-6 yrs size. I used I love this yarn in grey and navy blue tweed. I used 1 skein in grey and 2 skeins in navy blue for a total of 412 grams of yarn. I also used a 5.5 mm and a 5mm hook.
This Crochet Alpine stitch crochet sweater for boys and girls or CROCHET JERSEY SWEATER can be made smaller or bigger from 3 years up to 10 years by simply using a smaller or bigger hook. Just remember that these sizes are not exact since not all children are the same size. See below.
2-3 years use a 4mm hook with Aran or #4 yarn
3-4 years use a 4.5mm hook with Aran or #4 yarn
4-5 years use a 5mm hook with Aran or #4 yarn
5-6 years use a 5.5mm hook with Aran or #4 yarn
6-7 years use a 6mm hook with Aran or #4 yarn
7-8 years use a 6.5mm hook with Aran or #4 yarn
9-10 years use a 6.5mm hook with bulky or chunky #5 yarn

I love this tutorial, I made same sweater for my 9 year son.
How did you make it to that size?
I have adapted for an adult (size large) with weight 3 yarn, in a colour block style. It is gorgeous! Thank you so much for making this available. I am so happy with this tutorial, since it gave me the information I needed to be able to make the required changes for my project. Is there a place to add our pictures?
The only true change (not just an adaptation) that I made, was that I crocheted the collar and ribbing separately and then attached to the sweater, since I don’t enjoy the ‘ribbing directly onto the project method.’ My ribbing was slip stitch ribbing instead of single crochet ribbing.

Could I follow this pattern in a lighter yarn - DK or 3 weight, but then have a smaller jumper? Sorry if this is obvious, but I am new to crochet.
If you dk yarn with smaller hook yes it will come out smaller, maybe 6-9m size.

1. I am finding it extremely difficult to find tutorials for pullover sweaters for girls, ages 6 to 7 y.o. why is that?
2. Please give us the appropriate chain numbers for each age category. Would I use the 60chains for a sweater for a 2 y.o?
Mesure the head size of tour little girl and chain the amount of stich to reach that mesurment (cause everyhing depend of the yarn and hook you are usine, and the tension of your own way of crocheting) dont put too much thought into it, its crochet not rocket science relaxe and enjoy its just a matter of trying making mistakes, doing again and again and again until you like it 😊
