- Richard Wagner (1813-1883) Overture to Tannhäuser (Transcription by S. Warren, E.H. Lemare, and N. Laube)
Nathan Laube plays the 2019 Lively-Fulcher Organ (4 manuals and 68 stops) at St. Matthew the Apostle Cathedral in Washington DC.
out of this world! Notice, he is playing without sheet music! Phenomenal!
I listened to this again with new computer speakers. Notice the last six minutes or so he's playing the melody with his left thumb while the rest of that hand is busy with chordal accompaniment one keyboard up, the right hand is doing that endless running sixteenth note shimmering obbligato, and the pedals are not 'un-busy'. Wow! So subtle and completely musical, that if you don't watch him play, you forget it's not an opera orchestra.
enjoyed your comment!
Mr. Laube is a virtuosic master! Saw him yesterday, performing this work at the inaugural concert of the newly-renovated Cornel Zimmer Organ, Op. 167, at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Frederick, MD.
Extraordinary! I am a symphony musician and would never believe that the voicing and expression achieved in this performance on an organ were possible if I had not seen it with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears. Nathan Laube is truly a musician's musician of the highest caliber.
Sir, Wagner himself would have been brought to tears if he heard this unbelievably technical and brilliant performance. I know this piece very very well and am speechless after listening to this recording. You are definitely one of the greatest organ players in the world.
And there, ladies and gentlemen, you see the highest order of musicianship. Bar none. Period.
Wow amazing!! So excited to see him perform next month!!! ☺😊
He parked on that last chord for thirteen seconds, LOVED IT!! Truly an exhilarating performance!!
I’m a pianist and organist in Boston, Massachusetts USA. And that’s the most incredible thing I’ve ever seen or heard in my life. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!!!
I love Boston! I am trying to find an organist here (Montreal) to play this for my teen kids. After Albinoni.
Sorry, Albernini!
I had the luck to hear this and other pieces today in Barcelona thank you Nathan Laube
One of the most powerful pieces of music ever written, on the most powerful instrument ever designed.
WOW!! Still brings tears, no words, was in attendance at his concert at St. Margaret's in Palm Desert, Ca. last Sunday., Still feeling that I was in the presence of magisty in the highest form
Got to hear him play this at Girard College... Unforgettable experience.
Incredible. I'm practically in tears! What a genius!
Spectacular manual dexterity!! Nathan Laube is a truly remarkable talent!!
Eccelent - not just "organically", but also as a wholistic realisation of Wagner's magnificent symphonic concept! Extraordinary!
How could anyone possibly dislike this?
That aside, I am so glad there are people out there who also enjoy this type of music!
A breathtakingly realized experience in every aspect, with a true poet at the console.
such a gift this is. Thank you Joe and Nathan, and the many lucky live listeners down below!
Absolutely breathtaking performance
Truly a transcendental undertaking in every way. Superhuman playing that would impress even Edwin LeMare, I'm sure. Simply thrilling.
Nathan Laube ❤❤❤ from 🇳🇬 🇳🇬
Love the 2 manuals in one hand whilst legs and other hand busily engage...great transcription.
I do not understand how a human being can rate this video with thumbs down¡
A Russian Bot? ;-)
A beautiful and thrilling performance by Nathan. I'm overwhelmed by the majesty and beauty of the instrument.
Watching Nathan’s expressions is just as fascinating as listening to this masterpiece.
Beautifully executed on a Stunningly gorgeous organ
Dazzling, brilliant! Changes in registration are seamless, a real symphonic effect. Loved those reeds at the end!
Fantastic. That Lemare transcription is fiendishly hard. Loved the ending which is different and more dramatic - presumably this is the contribution of Nathan Laube.
The only other version I've seen published on YT is that by Jonathan Scott.
Concerts or listen heI was enjoying the Higlh Quality of this Work, which is Formidable !!!!
I also I'm one who goes to co hencertr MN
Well said!
Spectacular musicianship - outstanding in every respect and what an instrument!
This is possibly the best performance of anything by anybody ever. If humans were playing this piece, it would take 3 organists on 3 organs but how would they sync? Totally amazing, fantastic performance and transcription (also by Nathan), superb organ and cathedral. thank you for posting! Greetings from Canada!
Nathan,HOW in Heaven's name do you do that????? Bravo!
I literally cannot believe how freaking FAST and stable that key action is!!!
I never forget when you played this on the new organ in Gothenburg concert hall! I loved it!❤️❤️
You play this so beautiful!🤗👏👏👏👏❤️
So well done of course as we would expect of Nathan. Beautiful playing.
Consummate technique here displayed. What we see displayed here is not merely one hand playing two manuals simultaneously while the other hand plays on only one manual but truly two hands playing on three manuals as well.
Excellent audio as always JV.
Superb performance by a consummate artist. Thank you.
Congratulations to Music Director Tom Stehle, organist Paul Hardy, and the Community of St. Matthew the Apostle for bringing this important instrument to its long-awaited completion!
Well done maestro 💯🎵🎼Greetings from South Africa 👋🇿🇦🌻
Une Grande musique interprétée par un grand Maître de l'orgue...Merci Nathan...LOVE...
Excellent! Thank you, Nathan. Thank you JAV!
Spectacular.
BRAVO Nathan. Delightful.
MAESTRO!
Who knew Wagner composed Do Re Mi (take that, Rogers and Hammerstein.) LOL
BUT seriously you are a master of that organ, and have interpreted this Wagner piece beautifully and artfully. Thank you, Maestro. Bravo
Wow amazing!
Wow! I'd love to hear Nathan playing this on the organ of Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, here in the UK.
This is beautiful, jaw dropping, breathtaking, amazing.
Fantastic !! i play this on my big speakers.
Very interesting, very well played, impressive!
Astounding!
❤❤❤
Wow!
Exquisite.
Talent does not care who possesses it.
Godly...
Well done, nice transcription. Nice recording also. Thank you for posting. The video is made from one pont of view. You can not see the pedals.
I have not listened to any organ recording on UA-cam more than this one. This recording is sui generis.
S T A N D I N G O V A T I O N
Bravissimo!!!
G R A N D I S S I M O - c'è tutto wagner!
Perfect! So pationate and full of emotion
Great job, and all by memory! Was the performance one of the first on this new organ?
Transportive!
What a fantastic organ! I'm working on a song by Pipe Organ, but I also want to make a song like this!
THE BEST 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
That was outstanding it would've made Virgil Fox weep with joy.
This is fantastic. Just one thing (not regarding Nathan), but rather Wagner himself. Play from 7:41 - 7:49. Does that passage seem reminiscent of "Do a Deer", perhaps that passage inspired the well known nursery rhyme.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤🎼🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
I loooooooooove hearing this on the organ
This is similar to the Lemare transcription, with some other influences. Check the video description.
All this without the score in front of him!!
This guy is giving me a heart attack!
without sheet music
Indescribable. I don't have the words, really...
Absolutely stunningly performed! This was one of the performances that inspired me to get back into music making again - Ive just started my own channel and would love some feedback/support - please consider hitting subscribe and checking it out? Thanks so much - many more performances like this please!
Mr. Laube’s unparalleled virtuosity playing this exciting transcription, and others he regularly programs, lifts the organ from the heap of dreary organ literature, and proves the pipe organ can be a relevant, secular concert instrument. Kudos to Lively and Fulcher for this work of art. This is what an organ should sound like. No digital organ could compare. Too bad it is associated with the Catholic Church.
what's the rank?
