      Same here. My dad passed away in 2017. At the end of his cancer disease he asked my little brother to play the Tannhäuser Overtüre at his funeral on the organ because Wagner was his all time favourite composer. He did it with only 16 years of age. It's hard every time I listen to it.

    I'm coming to this performance after watching a stirring performance of this piece by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Herbert von Karajan... also on UA-cam and obviously a very old video. This first thing that strikes me is women have been liberated! They now can sit in an orchestra playing instruments rather than sitting in the audience looking pretty and listening to men play this music. I have to tell the truth though that the von Karajan version was a more powerful presentation... amazingly his eyes were closed for the entire performance. I was afraid he might fall over, but his conducting was dynamic and the orchestra responded beautifully. Some of the difference may be the setting... his in a hall designed to show off and orchestra while here in a church. While a beautiful setting it must be more difficult to capture sound. Nice there are so many options available through UA-cam... and I love this orchestra... they have saved me during Covid.

    This by far is my all time favorite 14 minute song. It may be my favorite classic piece for that matter. It is so beautiful, so complex. Passages that are simple and mind soothing. And passages that are as comlex as music has ever been. The musicians have their work cut out for them, particularly the violinists.

      If you want to see more of the Berlin snippets feel free to buy a ticket to the Digital Concert Hall, that is kind of the idea behind it. The Frankfurt Radio Symphony is a Radio orchestra, therefore differently financed and able or in some way even intended to share music publicly. There is no shame in paying (affordable) money to listen to highest quality music...I don't know why we all expect everything to be for free

      Die Berliner sind im Gegensatz zu dem hr-Sinfonieorchester auch kein Rundfunkorchester, dadurch anders finanziert und mit anderen Kapazitäten, ihre Konzerte zur freien Verfügung zu stellen. Man sollte zurecht das hr-Sinfonieorchester loben, einen derartigen Zugang zu Konzerten zu ermöglichen. Die Kritik an dem BPO verstehe ich da nur nicht ganz - immerhin kritisiert man ja auch keinen Buchladen der Welt dafür, dass man darin Bücher kaufen muss und sie nicht online zur freien Verfügung stehen...

    i only listened global to some great dirigents since this week. But I m not a big fan of Mozart/Bach. Wagners music goes right into your soul, and that's the most difficult thing to do. He's absolutely brilliant. This and tristan and Isolde is just mindblowing, the balance between the serenity and passion of emotion is like heaven should be

    • @pmlouisjuste
      @pmlouisjuste 3 роки тому +4

      Wagner is a genius but Bach as well. He manages to cross craftmanship and emotion in a perfect way, this is astounding like the initial choruses of both Passions for example.

      I’m a fan of both composers for different reasons. I like Bach (especially his fugues) because of the counterpoint and genius use and reuse of motifs and themes. The beauty of many of his works lies in the analytical.
      I find Wagner’s overtures and operas beautiful for their grandiosity, emotion, and sheer emotional heaviness. His themes are simple and piercing, and the orchestration of and around those themes is spectacular and perfect.

      Claro, que días atrás vi a Celibidache, que no lo "veia" desde hace 40 años y también observé que era un monstruo con energía, finura, calidez, energía y como todos los grandes sin emplear partitura y con su mirada dicen todo.

    Já ouvi e assisti emocionada, a interpretação dessa obra , sem sombra de dúvida, uma das mais bonitas de Wagner. Só uma coisa gostaria que o maestro me respondesse: qual a emoção de reger tamanha maravilha, e os músicos, podem responder também ? Será que eu poderia ter a graça de ter minhas perguntas respondidas? Ficaria muito feliz.

    These people are rather good. And , the music, something about the Vaterland.

    Inside this simple almost austere I believe Protestant Church ,this music sound more authentic than in the Churches where luxury ,magnifiency ,pomp and ceremony are intoxicating.

      Eberbach Abbey (Kloster Eberbach) was a Catholic Cistercian monastery. THE NAME OF THE ROSE was filmed at this location. And you are right. Been there some times for wine testings and the nearly empty archtecture increases the impression a lot.
