I am a poor photographer and primarily a Sony e-mount shooter, nex c3 and alpha 5000 until I broke the a5000, I began looking to upgrade from the C3 but noticed how expensive the lenses were for e-mount. I decided to look in to a-mount, I was going to buy a Sony a350 from mpb but when I got the money to buy it there was an a390 around the same price, the built in flash doesn't work, but it takes sd cards. It cost me £76 and then I managed to get 4 lenses off ebay at a combined cost of £66, they were the sony 18-70mm, minolta af 35-70 f4, minolta af 70-210 f4 beercan lens and a sigma 70-300mm. The images from it are awesome, i love the CCD lens. I recently got an E-PL3 for £30, starting to venture in to micro 4/3rds but still keeping and using the a390.
Yeah decent glass for the E mount and the bodies with all the bells and whistles aren’t cheap. Having sd cards in the a390 is a huge plus. I have a whole bunch of A mount lenses in my watchlist on eBay so I’m gonna grab a couple after Christmas unless you bought them all already 😂 Have a good one mate🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial I haven't bought any for a while so there should be some left for you 😁, looking at getting a prime lens for it, I like the 35mm on an APS-C sensor so that would be my next purchase.
It's so fun to just use different stuff. Different Camaras in a strange way will cause me to shoot different things at times. The character differences and rendering are also really fun. Great video
Love this camera, owned most of the A-mount cameras. The colours from this camera is amazing, you should try the sony A900 or A850 too. Brilliant cameras.
Thanks for this review. As an old a mount shooter I love seeing these old cameras get some love and also showing that these old cameras can still make great images. I recently got the a99 which i think is the pinnacle of the cameras with that mount (there is a mk II but thats still oddly expensive and the a7riii is a better value for essentially the same sensor) which i would recommend to anyone wanting a good inexpensive full frame. I should track down one of the CCD a mount cameras too....
I really enjoy your content, your reviews are very relevant without a lot of fluff. I just picked up a similar camera and am totally unfamiliar with Sony ecosystem, so this was a big help.
Happy to hear it. The Sony history is quite a cool one given their ties to Konica-Minolta. It means a lot of the old Minolta lenses work perfectly with the new Sony A mount bodies and there are some gems that can be found for very good prices. Thanks for watching 🖖
Thanks for the video. I inherited today this camera from my uncle as a Christmas present with 2 lenses and bluetooth shotter, was planning to drop it in the pawn for 50 bucks because its quite old but after checking your video will give it a try tomorrow at the park, cheers
I've still got my A350 from new. For a year or so I even made a living from it. Weddings, proms, family shoots etc all with the two kit lenses that came with it. Processed the images using the software that was in the box without problems and popped them onto CDs for the happy couple(s) to print at their leisure. This system kept the price down for all involved. Win-win. Cheap Sunpak flash worked great with this set up too. Also had some images published in local newspapers and social media groups (non-profit). The camera (with optional battery grip) continues to give excellent results to this day, although now I'm an old fart with osteoarthritis I don't get to use it as much. The 'in camera' image stabilisation can be helpful too.
@@dennisjohnston7967 Absolutely. The standard camera (without the additional battery pack) is small and lightweight, easy to use (especially if you're a beginner - just leave it on 'auto') and surprisingly robust (I dropped mine from waist height onto concrete without adverse effects). For the price I think they're excellent value. Definitely recommended.
Absolutely love seeing this post I recently have acquired my mother's a350 that she purchased new being an amateur photographer myself I'm trying to learn as I go and it's nice to know that it's mostly me and not the equipment that needs adjustment. 😂
Haha, it's a great camera to get you started. I recently bought a 50mm for it that I still haven't had a chance to use it yet so fingers crossed I can get out with it soon.
14mp film-like CCD will put out 8 x10 and 11x14 prints at 300 dpi. It's a good idea- especially if you use the 30mm f/2.8 as normal lens. (45mm effective).
I have sought after this camera as well, as I also have a Minolta camera with an A-mount lens. But I already have an Olympus E-300 with multiple FourThirds lenses so, I bought an Olympus E-620 (12.3MP CMOS). Cost me €244 including 14-42 and 40-150 kit lenses. Best thing: 948 clicks. It has IBIS as well, a fully articulating screen and back lit buttons on the back (Cool!). It has more Mega Pixels than the E-300 but I like the output of the E-300 more (because of CCD sensor?). Anyway, these older DSLR cameras are still lots and lots of fun to shoot. Looking forward to more videos of you with the A350!

On Facebook I'm getting a $50 one and looking forward to it! I've been to college two years ago and tutored photography students but my last camera was film.
With the right lenses it would be fine. It’s not a fast camera compared to modern mirrorless cameras of course, but it’s plenty fast enough for everyday shooting. I just bought a 50mm f1.8 for mine so I’ll be making a video about that soon🖖
I had CF cards from my older cameras, but with the xd picture cards, the adapters I found were specifically for Olympus cameras and apparently there’s some physical difference that the Fuji cameras don’t like.
It depends on what look you want. If you’re just getting started a phone with 4k is good enough if you make sure you have good audio because people will let you know about bad audio before bad video. If you want something a bit more capable, the Olympus EM1 mkii is a great photo and video body with excellent ibis, great af and a nice cinema 4k codec🖖
i see that since this camera is very old and it’s memory card is different from the ones we see now. may i ask where i could find memory card? preferably from amazon.
Yeah the old CF cards are available on Amazon but they tend to be a bit more expensive than their sd counterparts. Someone actually commented on one of my videos that they use an sd to cf adapter and it works fine, so that’s another option. Thanks for watching 🖖
Probably not. I think that someone just getting into the game would probably do better with something like the Sony Nex 5. Same resolution sensor as this camera in a much smaller, mirrorless body and it’s Emount rather than Amount which means and lenses you’d buy would be useable still without adapters if after a while you were to upgrade the camera to something like one of the A6xxx cameras. My Nex 5 cost me about the same as this a350 but I recently picked up a Nex 3 (which is essentially the same camera with a couple of features missing) for £31.
Hello. Thanks you for the vidéo and the test. Looking for a camera for my 14 years old son. He wants to start macro to shoot nature and animals. I have choice between Sony alpha 350 with 2 lenses included macro Lens or Sont nex 5 with original lens. What would you advise me? Thanks you!
For cost of lenses, the old A mount wins since there are lots of lenses for that system from both Sony and Minolta, but it’s a finished system so there’s never going to be anything new. For functionality and the fact that the Nex 5 is tiny, has features like focus peaking and it’s still an active system, I’d probably go with that. As I found with my youngest, size was a big factor in getting him interested since he had no desire to carry a big camera around and the a350 is a pretty big camera. I actually made a video with the Nex 5 a little while ago if you wanted to see some image examples 🖖
@@DavidFlowerOfficial So finally I bought the alpha 350 for my son, with two lenses (149€), like that he can and start with a real reflex and with different lenses, but I also bought a Sony Nex F3 (125€), the model with the flash inside for myself to complete my old good Sony reflex ! 😁 Life is expansive when you do know how to make choices.... 😅
