Peter, Paul and Mary were an inspiration for me from my Naval training during the summer of 1963 through my patrols across the Pacific and in Vietnam 1964 -1965. Their songs helped give meaning to life during difficult times.

A few thoughts: Wish I could have been there, tho’ I was living across the country and was only 10 years old at this time.
A few years before, my family was invited to some sort of get together after church. All of a sudden, the grownups started getting very excited and clustered around a record player. Sure enough, we were hearing PPM circa 1961 or so.
When I was in HS, I taught myself to play folk guitar and learned these songs. We need to bring all of these protest songs back because our country needs to come back together, make positive change re climate change, race relations, kindness towards one another.
I’m learning guitar again during Covid time. My rusty fingers don’t want to shape the chords reliably, but I’m persistent.
    Everyone stay well and safe.

Its probably also for practical purposes as Peter and Paul have to hold guitars. And for the aesthetic reason of symmetry. When she makes that beautiful sound that it springs forth not from off the side but from the center.

I had the privilege to attended the March on Washington as a participant in summer camp programs sponsored by the World Council of Churches, and the civil rights movement. This was my first time in America (from Germany), and I had no idea at that time, what a historical day this really was. The powerful spirit of that day, climaxed by Dr. MLK's electrifying "Dream"-speech, Peter, Paul and Mary"s "Blowing in the Wind", Mahalia Jackson ("How I got Over") and many other presentations, have accompanied my life to this day. May this, as well as all the other videos about the March on Washington remain available to the public FOREVER!

I'm very grateful Bob Dylan wrote this song, and P, P & M gave it wings. It mightily shaped my consciousness in the 60's!
Sadly that "answer" is still elusive, perhaps more so now than it seemed then. The cannon balls (well, missiles now) still fly, oppression is on the run, but making a mighty last stand. People are freer now, but freedom has evolved into the push for universal healthcare. The movement toward a more perfect nation is being resisted by the powerful, and the ignorant. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

This song, this version, defined them for me. Made a conscience I have always kept, for I was young, and it was forming. Mary was at her most beautiful and most militant at this very moment, and she was transcendantly beautiful, to a guy not fond of blondes. These folks helped define the best of our generation, and while we are rightly condemned for many things, our music was unparalleled. As were its aspirations, however unfulfilled.

Why, so that you would get your ass beaten and wish you were born in the future. Be grateful for being born later and make a difference in peoples lives. They were responsible for the kids in the 80's and 90's who got to go to college and have more opportunities. Then the 80's and 90's generations are fighting the 2000's young generation because they don't want to give up there authority to younger persons. Life isn't supposed to be selfish. Everyone is here for a time and does things for a time. It ends and another chapter begins.

They were inspirational and wonderful and I have really just discovered them. The cycle has come round again and this precarious world, with dangerous clowns in charge everywhere, needs the beauty and truthfulness of their message and their music. They have so much to sing, to play, to say to us today.

The questions I have remind me of how apathetic Trump was to this covid pandemic and the death toll. Threequestions from the song remind me of his indifference to the suffering of our people and death toll and him looking the other way; questions like “how many times can a man turn his head and pretend that he just doesn’t see?” “How many ears must one have before he can hear people cry?” and “How many deaths will it take till he knows that too many people have died?”
