I am from the USA. I travel to SA every year and to say I love the country and feel completely safe is an understatement. I have found nothing but kind and welcoming people. As a black American I am always careful of making stereotypical statement before I explore any (especially African) country.

Orania is not even racist. Please get your facts right. First of all that farm is a private entity. And its inhabitants have a certain criteria for you to be accepted . Mainly, the Afrikaaners culture and its language . You have to go through certain tests, regardless your race. Not every white person is allowed in that area. Yeah, I also disagree with that Taxi driver. I was treated very well by whites in South Africa. An Afrikaaner woman rented to me and took me around Joburg. She let me use her SUV & drive her young nephew to school. I met a couple of homeless white people who helped me when I was lost. I'm sure there are still some racist dead enders in South Africa, but they're very few & very harmless. I was born and raised, and lived in the United States for nearly 60 years. Nowhere on the planet is more racist than America.

    Fellow Veggie here.
*Nando's:* used to have plant based strips that were fantastic but they go rid of them, in the beginning of the year! 😭
But try the pita next time, no mayo. ask for peri-naise or just add the mild sauce your self.
*Burger King:* Try the Vegan Royal! best fast food "chken" burger. Not filling though. Ask if they have vegan nuggets.
*Steers:* The veggie burger is ayt. I feel like it the same level as Nando's. But at least its something different. And the fries slap!
*Mochachos:* Veggie schwarma is actually really good! I would prefer guacamole instead of mayo. But make sure it's not strips! Most well seasoned fries you will find.
*Simply Asia:* Try the red sauce **Linguini** noodles with tofu. I would go for medium heat for that nice kick. This is such a great meal!!!!!
    A bit more pricey.
*Rocco Mamas:* Okay, this may be the best burger. make sure you add jalapenos, Smokey mayo and caramelized onions. The fries also slap!
Dopio Zero, Fugazi, Pizza eVino and Mr Gorge (Melrose Arc) are places you can sit down and eat. But some other places I know are in JHB and a bit of a distance form Edenvale. Feel free to ask with a comment reply if you want recommendations in your area.
Also try Woolworths if you want plant based alternatives like tofu and beyond meat.

I live in South Africa for 28yrs
I can assure you the Uber Guy is a South African 100% 😊
However I think his description of South Africa was not bad intended rather his style of delivery "way of expression".
Some people are not tour guide or professional communicators.,..they just use words to sound cool without necessarily meaning damage.
      Example someone wd say:
      *Traffic here is Crazy
      *Peaple are Mad
      *City life is Tough
      *African Markets are scarry
These are expressions meant to exaggerate not exact description 😊

You need to eat home made pap and not from the restaurant. Especially pap at Limpopo not Gauteng. It goes down pretty well with chakalaka and boerewors (sausage) and beef stake. The type of meal you'll find at a braai (cookout). And have a side plate of veggies. I will also advice you visit deep rural areas and taste their food, pure organic and nice and they also make home made peanut butter and it looks like a cake that you can eat it as is.

In South Africa 🇿🇦 Taxi is normally a minibus transporting people between fixed points along a predetermined route. What Americans call Taxis we call an Über. The difference: when you want to take a taxi you go to a taxi rank, when you want an Uber you call an Uber company to come pick you up and take you to your destination. Otherwise you either take a public bus, train or you rent a car from one of the car rental companies.

Welcome to SA. We have great places that you could also check out. COME DOWN TO CAPE TOWN AFTER JOZI. Youll be fine in this country as long as you stay away from certain townships...especially if you'll be filming.

Welcome to the motherland bro. I suggest you explore Sandton, Rosebank and Maboneng areas then you visit Cape town. Another country that is convenient for African americans is Kenya. You'll be amazed bro, you've been lied about Africa.
