I think Oprah was complimenting her figure. Since Oprah has had a struggle with weight in a thin-is-beauty culture (my same struggle), she expressed admiration in stead of jealousy-a character trait rarely seen in today’s hate-filled culture.
So Cindy Crawford was on Oprah’s show promoting herself as a body model and then Oprah asks to see the body she’s trying to promote. And that’s not ok? Why??
Cindy Crawford did playboy twice, silly complaint.
WHAT??? Does Cindy not remember the time period? Oprah didn't mean anything bad, she was complimenting how extraordinarily beautiful she was. To try and reframe it all these years later by planting a seed that Oprah meant something nefarious, rather than what would have been a standard complimentary phrase for THAT particular period in history feels disingenuous. Furthermore, if Crawford felt that way, there is no reason why she should ever have appeared on Oprah's show again to further promote her brand and business endeavors. Perhaps she should have gone to Carson or Letterman instead?
Notice how Cindy won't speak out against any of the creepy photographers she worked with? I'm sure someone at Vogue or one of the houses in Paris made her feel uncomfortable at fittings being that Cindy didn't have a high fashion haute couture body yet we don't hear a thing about what anyone in the fashion industry did or said to her. A stylist, another model? I'm a former high fashion model and so is my daughter and trust me, we've had rude things said to us and what Oprah said was nothing compared to the things we've heard from people in the fashion industry.
Shut up Cindy. She said to stand up and show your body not stand up and take your clothes off. And this is something she should have taken with Oprah years ago since it bothered her. Why now? Folks need to stop waiting years and years to speak up.
Exactly! And she stood up proudly.
Cindy Crawford made a comment years ago. She said she posed for playboy magazine because men don’t look at cosmopolitan. She has been modeling for cosmopolitan but clearly stated she did playboy so men can look at her BODY. She wanted to make sure people were looking at her BODY as a MODEL so why would this offend her?
She made a career of being judged by her body, so her argument seems moot. And let's not forget that Oprah publicly struggled with her own body issues. So imo her remarks were said more in complimentary and awe. There was no hint of her being malicious or even lascivious. This is reaching.
Just because your a model doesn't give people the right to eye you up and down and make comments. It's rude and disrespectful.
@@marykelly5608Stop it! Watch the video again and tell me what part of Oprah's comment was rude or disrespectful...I'd really like to know. I use to model to put myself through Uni (no where on Cindy's level), and I know what rude and disrespectful sounds like. Casting and Art directors are no joke. They will pick your body and face apart right in front of you. I see none of that here. What I do see, is someone clout chasing and attempting some type of witch hunt, decades after the fact. That's just my opinion, and you're not going to sway me.
@@shan0997, I'm with you!!! 👏👏👏
Arent models objects, although human. There not there for their brains, how well they speak, or anything else in regard to their prrsonal selves. A model is a person who promotes other objects to be sold to consumers. Wtf is she talking about.
@@marykelly5608 She didn't get invited to the Oprah show because she was a nuclear scientist, she was invited because she was a MODEL. she strutted and twirled for a living, her shape, height, walk etc. was the media though which she displayed her gift. If she was upset about what happened on the show then she should choose another line of work.

In Cindy's 40 year career how many men has she exposed.
Why Oprah why now? You have had 40 years to talk to Oprah about this 🤷
Cindy needs to expose and worry about her daughter and the modeling industry today. Why are they called "super models" do they fly? There is NOTHING super about these people🤷
It's very different when you talk about what a woman has done in Hollywood. A man can have many skeletons and keep them hidden, but a woman.... she's considered pure until she opens up the door with everyone's skeletons and then "she's a problem".
Why does Gayle have to address this BS? Don’t care if she’s a friend, she wasn’t there 37 years ago, in the room for the twirl! Cindy’s been on Oprah 10x. Why not ask Cindy to address the hypocrisy. Totally Bizarre!!!!!
Cindy probably ghosted them.
Good point, lalapoppp!
Wait. So let me get this straight...
A SUPERMODEL got upset for someone complementing her body???
WTF???
Complimenting*
Hey,
Oprah is DAMNED if you do.
DAMNED if you DON'T 😅
Perhaps she had heard that Oprah is a vampire.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Cindy oh pleaseeee that was clearly a compliment
It's right there to see; Oprah did say exactly that to Cindy Crawford. But I think it was her way of complimenting Cindy Crawford. Back in 1986 everyone didn't get offended over every single thing.
Cindy is a hypocrite. She owes her fame and fortune to the way her bod looked. By the way, her face isn't pretty and that mole is distracting. I can't believe she became a supermodel with all the competition she was up against back in the day.
I don't even like Oprah but her comments to Cindy were more of Endearing and sweet.. Nothing malicious there
@@scovyaporsha Agree!
Actually, before that little snippet, she said that the audience did not get to see her and she was call the bod so it was a full compliment and Cindy (a supermodel in the 90s) all they were know for was their beauty, is full of it.
Yeah but what's the problema?? She's a MODEL! I was a Model and I had was OBBLIGATED to do interviews in Bikinis.
Ma’am, you’re a model. Your job is literally to showcase your body and garments on it. 😐
"Karen" Crawford. A RIDICULOUS twisting of a woman paying her a huge compliment.
She attempted to blindside Gayle.... Gayle handled it very well.... Oprah was actually paying her a compliment.... Had she been wearing a bikini n Were asked to give us a gander. In addition, Cindy was speaking in a negative regarding a 30yo interview... When she asked Gayle, " So Oprah has not brought it up? , I would have told her, "Even if she had, I would never share the details of a pvt convo, with Oprah or anyone else".
Poor Gayle. She's such a phony, light-weight who rode in on Orca's coat tails and never looked back and despite she had her own platform and show to explain herself all on her own when she came under fire in the court of public opinion when she brought up Kobe Bryant's r*pe case before he was barely cold in the grave, she went crawling over to her bff to conduct her explanation interview because she knew she'd get the kit glove treatment as she tried to portray herself as somehow being the one who everyone should feel sorry for because she sticks her foot in he mouth...boo hoo!
And wtf does it matter what Cindy's body looks like! Gross Orca...calm down!
You're being paid for the shape of your body when you're a clothing model. Someone complimenting your occupational asset is a positive. Her body is why she was on the show.
Good evening I came across your comment and I just had to reach out and say hi. Your perspective really caught my attention and I would love to get to know you better. Would you be interested in chatting sometime? Looking forward to hear back from you!
Oprah was just mentioning how beautiful she is . Nothing else
1986? Really? If it takes this long to say something let it go.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Cindy you know dang well Oprah did not say it like that. Listen to her tone. Cindy reached A little.
I don’t like Oprah! But Cindy Crawford was reaching on this one!!
Exactly I know that people have been coming out bout some shady stuff about Oprah but Cindy no! She was just giving you a compliment.
Cindy is reaching 🙄🙄 it's damn compliment sure it's embarrassing but she wasn't trying to humiliate you tf
I'm not an Oprah fan but I didn't see anything wrong with what she said or did with Cindy in the show. It's more like admiring & praising. Misplaced outrage, petty & hypocritical on Cindy's part as she guested many times on Oprah after that!!
Through “today’s lens”, everything is offensive and “not okay”. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
In our past we all have encountered someone that made a comment whether of good intentions or bad that made us feel uncomfortable. However I have concerns about the amount of time that has passed and the motives. I’m sure her career wasn’t ruined because of this.
Yes today its take their livelihood away
My dad was part of a camera crew and said Cindy Crawford was so kind to everyone...
Rolling my eyes at this foolishness, Oprah was complimenting her 🤯
This cancel culture, announcing someone's infraction from the past, is ugly. It's a way to harm people, to always have the ability to find "something" to control another person's reputation. The interviewer should be ashamed. Cindy Crawford has the right to state how she felt, but seizing on it to amplify it so as to harm a reputation is low end.
Cindy was my everything as a teenager growing up. I had her countless magazine covers and ads, posters, etc, She was the epitome of beautiful. She made her name and her millions based off that body/face. To imply that Oprah made her feel like an "object rather than a person" on her show that day is unfair. Cindy went on to appear on the Oprah show numerous times, thus the assumption is she didn't feel that way then. Moreover, if being objectifying was an issue then, why then would Cindy go on to pose for Playboy. Now, I am STILL in awe of my Cindy as I am of Oprah because DUH, she's OPRAH!), but I think because of the ever-changing things today and the topics of pronouns, political correctness, and sensitive nature of specific topics, Cindy is NOW rehashing this. This is completely unfounded and unfair to Oprah.
How she feels is not unfounded. I actually saw the clip way back when and I felt cringe for Cindy. You can tell she was visibly uncomfortable being treated like a show pony. Yes, she is a model but she was not on a job assignment to display her body that day. I'm not for people rehashing issues from years back also. But her feelings are legit to her. Since Cindy said this, Oprah has since deleted that clip. Why? If she did nothing wrong.
This is brave and scary. Sounds exaggerated but we aren’t really allowed to voice these opinions anymore I’m conversations without the fear of being cancelled
It’s one thing to be proud of your body and thus pose for the magazines that’s she’s done, but it’s entirely another for someone to ask her to stand up and show everyone what type of body she has when she’s not “working”. Oprah has crossed the line on so many occasions it’s laughable that anyone could come to her defense and say what Cindy Crawford said, now as a mother, a much wiser, older women looking back and seeing what was wrong with that whole scene, as unfair is quite ironic. What was so unfair about what she said? If you’re the CEO of a successful company and while in an interview about your company, Oprah says, show us your memos and your business contracts so we can see why you’re so successful, is ridiculous! When Cindy Crawford poses as a model, she’s working to earn income to pay the bills.
When she’s being interviewed by Oprah and asked to stand up to show the world her figure and sort of justify why she’s a successful “supermodel”, it’s on an entirely different level. How you can’t see that is astonishing!
Your analogy is brilliant. Now nobody can misunderstand what was done. This should have been on the main thread of comments so that everybody can read it. Not everybody goes into the replies. 👏👏
It was a different time. Oprah wasn’t being mean.
Cindy Crawford appeared/interviewed on Oprah Winfrey, several times after the 1986 interview. Enough said!
Gayle was ask the question, so she answered it. So what!!!!
My wish would be for ANYONE to say to me “what a beautiful body you have!😂😂😂😂😂 I look like a dead horse!😂😂😂😂
what a beautiful body you have!
🤔 Cindy is full of BS if Ophra made her feel uncomfortable, why did go back to her show? Is Cindy selling something or has a show coming up?? It sounds like she needs publicity for something she is trying to sell. 🤷♀️
Cindy made so much money showing up her body and her own daughter doing the same thing, Cindy is being very dishonest.
Oprah didn’t say or imply anything derogatory by asking Cindy to stand up…
By asking on behalf of the audience to have a better look of the standards required to make it to the top of what is a very competitive and idealistic based profession…
Especially given that is the very nature of the model industry and what is expected of models to do is to ‘Show Off’ either themselves or enhance a products/clothes etc to appeal to the consumer…
Even by yesterday or today’s “PC” standards of physical objectivity…
Basically, it’s would be rather unusual career choice for someone who finds it uncomfortable being looked at with some degree of scrutiny if that was Oprah intentions.

I lost respect for Cindy because of this. Not because she spoke her truth. She should’ve reached out to Oprah they have known each other for years. I hope Oprah doesn’t apologize publicly or privately either. Cindy has deposited many checks off her body.
Maybe the person interviewing her asked about that incident so she responded truthfully on how she feels today, being much older and wiser. That doesn’t mean she harbors any bitterness. Just that as she’s grown more confident in who she is and grown more wisdom and being in a different place now than she was back then, she feels more confidence in saying how looking back that whole scene felt wrong. Don’t tell me you’ve never looked back on some of the dumb things you did as a young adult and think, that was not right. Those who live in glass houses shouldn’t be throwing stones. 🙄
@@Journey007a You mean like a supermodel in hindsight realizing that her body is why she’s rich today and then feeling a certain way about that? Well yeah! That is the definition of living in a glass house 🙄 Cindy showed up to every photo op opportunity for years at Oprah’s expense. Why not talk to her? I wouldn’t trust her after this. She’s a fake friend.
@@Journey007a Have you seen the full clip and not just what was edited on Crawford's show? Like her version of events doesn't match up with the full video at all.
I've looked back on some stuff that happened in my teen years, as many do, and been like well shit that shouldn't have happened as it did and/or maybe I shouldn't have let it slide as easily as I did. There's nothing wrong with that if that was was she was doing but it kinda wasn't. She was skewing facts to make it seem like something shady happened when, in reality, it didn't.
And I'm not saying Oprah doesn't have her shady ways, she does, but this isn't one of them.
@@Tania-fx4uz thanks for clarifying. I appreciate it. I haven’t watched the entire clip. I guess when it comes to Oprah, I no longer trust or have respect for so it’s easy to empathize with that CC is saying because when I look back to some of my poor decisions as a teen/early 20’s, or moments when I received snarky comments from a sister-in-law, whom we no longer speak to, it would stun me and I wouldn’t know how to react. But looking back to some of those moments, I can see how those comments towards me were total jabs and I would absolutely have put her in her place back then and probably have severed ties much sooner. In any case, I appreciate the insight on this clip.
@@Tania-fx4uz Absolutely! Interesting , there’s also a video of Cindy interviewing Kobe . The full interview is here on UA-cam where she refers to Kobe as “tender young meat.” Maybe Kobe thought it was a compliment or maybe not, but she literally did the same thing only much more vulgar than the Oprah interview.
Oprah 100% has had several interviews over the years that were def cringe thru today's lense.
Cindy is so dramatic. That was Oprah’s way of showing and showcasing what a super model looks like !
It was offensive then and still is. Oprah believes she is above everyone. She looked her up and down and it was evident Cindy was uncomfortable.
Your response is also what society has drilled into minds that Oprah's way of "complimenting" Cindy about her body was okay. It's not okay then or now.
Whatever. When I was a model and did shows the agents and people who were looking for specific body types were way harsher than what Oprah said and Oprah didn't say anything disrespectful at all

Cindy’s response 40 years later , I have always liked Cindy Crawford, her comment those shows she needs to grow thicker skin. She was a model. She made her money from her luxe and her body and it was a different time get over yourself Cindy you’re a beautiful intelligent woman
Too intelligent to be whining over nothing.
I don’t think a ‘Model’ is employed for their knitting skills. 🙄
I think Oprah asking Cindy to stand up was like an interviewer asking a singer to sing a few notes. Some singers are happy to do it; others aren't. Cindy Crawford has admitted that she struggles with body-consciousness. She has body image hangups just like the rest of the world. She said she has to work hard to look good and that even models aren't 100 percent comfortable in their own skin. So apparently her negative reaction was more about her attitude about herself than about Oprah's attitude towards her.
That is very insightful. It sounds like you have a very kind, non judgmental way of thinking.
She's in the wrong field then if she has body issues!! Why be a model??
I think you kind of need to have body issues to be a model. How else are you going to stay motivated to have a perfect body, hair and makeup?

Models sell their body. That’s what they do. It’s their job to look a certain way and so theyre judged for the way they look, how they walk, how they wear clothes or demonstrate products.
Oprah was known for talking openly about her weight problem. I think she still does.

She did that to Toni braxton
DID ANY OF YOU WATCH THE CLIP?!?!??
Oprah asks her to stand up and show her body. Then just asks the guy questions about Cindy and it basically comes off like "ok you did what you were here for, we don't really need to hear you speak."
That was an edited clip. In the full clip she introduces Cindy, then talks about some stuff with Cindy, then she asks Cindy to show her body, Cindy does, then Cindy sits down after which Oprah asks about her height, Cindy answers and she also says she's not in fact 100 pounds but tries to keep it at 120 and only after that i.e. after Cindy finished speaking, did Oprah start talking to the guy.
So ahh the full clip isn't as offensive as Cindy and the producers of The Super Model make it out to be.
She asked him if he groomed her. 🤮
Cindy that's not fair, especially when you say you didn't feel offended at the time. You were a model and would expect a comment about your body.

She's actually a very popular news broadcaster. She's been in the news business for a very long time. Oprah herself was a news anchor woman before getting her own television talk show.
Give her a break, she has held her own
I understand what Cindy is trying to say and she is right. However ya’ll are the reason why today our younger generations stands up. Cindy wasn’t that of a good example herself. And also you are a model. You were not sitting there as a human right activist.
I find Gayle King to be one of the most feminine, gorgeous women ever. I am a 54yo Whenever I watch her, she reminds me of the warm, wonderful women who were so caring and kind to me when I was a little girl. Those women were goddesses to me, I just loved being in their presence. Gayle really emanates the feminine allure.
Toni Braxton was also made feel small by Oprah too, she ticked off quite a few people so it seems
the worst part is that before oprah asked her to stand up ,she asked casablanca "did you groom her?"
Groom as in dress & style her? Or what...
I dislike Oprah but I think that was a compliment
It appears Oprah did have Cindy Crawford stand up. Clearly not to humiliate her; but rather, to show what the industry standard was at that time. Please get over yourself. And for this reporter to bring it up with Gayle, was so unnecessary. Stirring up some old dirt. And that is not unlike the internet police being on patrol - the reporter here was out of line in asking the question. Looking for a story?

If Cindy felt a certain way about an interview that happened then, why can't she comment on it? She's not suing Oprah, she's just making a comment about a situation she was placed in. Imo, I think Oprah is placed on a very high pedestal anyway.
Exactly! As we age, we gain wisdom. There were comments made to me in my late teens and early 20’s that I wasn’t confident enough to stand up to. Now that I’ve grown older, been through a lot more life experiences and have adult kids, I look at life differently and comments made towards me in my late teens and early 20’s definitely won’t fly if said to me today. So I see nothing wrong with what Cindy Crawford, being a much older, wiser woman, sees as wrong when she looks back. I think it’s truly sad that as horrid as I’ve come to now see how Oprah is, through a much wiser lens, that she can still even have any supporters. I used to admire Oprah so much. As a much older and wiser lady now, I can see through her facade! She is as corrupt as the Clintons if not more!
@@Journey007a I zoned out Oprah after what she did to Michael Jackson, and then after his death she cheated and disrespected his family. She took up the crusade when Leaving Neverland came out, suddenly it was so important that she speak out - the same person who didn't even send condolences personally or professionally when he died (and this was publicly brought up in footage aired of her with her team right before the MJ family interview). I have just nothing to say after that.
Because Cindy's business was her looks and body and the only reason she was famous. She made a career walking down runways so people can see how she looks in clothes. It seems like an attention grab to act like Oprah did something bad to her by asking her to stand up to admire her looks. Is Cindy mad a the modeling industry too?

That's stupid for it to be unacceptable then or now. She's a model. They get paid to have people look at them!
O please I have seen a lot of interviews where Oprah is haughty and thinks she is better than the person she is interviewing and digs too deep to get her story. I lost all respect for Oprah when she colluded with Meghan Markle to bash the royal family. She did not dare ask Meghan to stand up and look at her or scrutinize her. She did not even question the allegations Meghan was making against the royal family which later proved to be lies. I still don't understand why Oprah went to the Royal wedding when she very clearly is not in favour of the monarchy.
👏👏👏👏👏yes. Say it. I have lost all respect. Then asking for money after the fires in maui. No respect

Because Meghan Markle is not a model and Cindy Crawford is. Seems like you’re just another hater of Meghan who will jump at any chance, including this completely unrelated topic, to bring them up. Also, she was invited to the wedding by the couple!!! They were the ones getting married and not ‘the royal family’.
