🌷Only 8 minutes into this interview I want to say that despite allllll the naysayers and mimics who have spewed insults about the friendship between Oprah and Gayle, these two women have publicly cherished one another and defended one another for so many years that their friendship should really be the a guide to “being a friend”.
This is a gift not many of us have.
    Friendship is an honor.🌷💗🌷

Asian women are bad at not telling you their age , and shocking that you asked them !! 😮😮😮 the stares I got back or the lies I have heard about their age …I SMH 🤦‍♀️
I am a western Asian and I embrace my wisdom garnered because I am aging ….the culture is so focused on external beauty that it annoys me tremendously! It’s all about show …. They did not learn how to grow older with grace and wisdom.
I believe the younger Asian women growing up in the western world are more relaxed and will share their age openly. That’s refreshing !
The 60’s club is the best club for women ….it’s where I see the women who worked about 40 years find their internal strength and fortitude and they don’t fake it till you make it in this club . They are inspirational when they speak, not shy or afraid of what you think…you asked me the question…. so here is MY answer ….it’s transparent and honest. If you don’t like the answer…then don’t bother to ask another question ….go to AI and ask. LOL
I listened to Jane Fonda’s podcast and WOW 🤩….did she ever nailed it ! Share your messiness and learn from it ! It’s a badge of honour to have lived and know better ….let the younger women learn to follow a better path . Why not ? They can gain much better perspective and find their better place faster … I am all for that.
Happy birthday to all the women here who are age 60 and up 🎉🎉🎊🎂🥳🥳 YOU ARE AWESOME 😊

“You can’t be friends with anyone who has a hint of jealousy about anything that you’re doing.” ~ Oprah Winfrey
This is so true. I learned the hard way. And, it hurts because it can be your “friend” or “family.” I always notice the hints…but, you have to go one step further to honor yourself by distancing yourself from that person or place. And, sometimes the closer the connection makes it even harder to walk away.

There are plenty of us women in that spot too…it is falsely overstated that women have close friendships. Some indeed do, like seen here…but many do not.
It is tricky territory. Often it is based on how one was raised (their attachment style), timing, compatibility, etc.
I have had close friends, but have been betrayed. I have had friends who are dismissive avoidant and it’s like there is a wall up & closeness almost impossible.
I have learned to have my own back, be a friend to myself, have a good therapist…but some days, a true, consistent, loving friend would be a dream come true.

We communicate frequently about every subject that interests us, with no reservation. I never say we are "old friends", but instead "long time friends". I remember in KC meeting Gayle in HS in the 1980’s. She was the aunt of two of my best friend twins at St Teresa’s Academy. and on local news. I had just got back from a summer in Europe for a student delegation of People to People, and she congratulated me visiting her nieces at our ceremonies. I grew up in major politics, Civil Rights and journalism through my dad and politicians around us. Major. A year or so later I see Oprah in my college sorority and young ladies flocking to the TV with her new show. Then, I see Gayle join her at one point. Mid to late 198o’s. My grandmother in Chicago called me me and asked if I’ve seen this woman Oprah because she’s fantastic, and you need to find a Gayle in your life in that high society sorority. I’ve been a fan of theirs since, and chose them as my North Stars in careers, Philanthropy, service, how you treat people, and how you speak to children, even as a stay at home mom and in between a divorce and dealing with some abuse. I kept my eyes on them, what they would tell me. Even with health scares. I know that I’m going to love this new Podcast as I’ve had to shed many traumas and skin to be my authentic self for me, attached to me and my young adult children. I think that I’m
Borrowing a line from someone much more prophetic was Dr. Wayne Dyer, whom said, never be attached to anything but your spirit, and if you have children, then. Otherwise detach from pain and be free to serve others, your God and be grateful everyday.

Lol as for friends the few I have I have taken to only surrounding myself with honest like minded people and not the fake tell me what I want to hear people. Hello from Canada 🇨🇦. Aging (I, female at 68) is a GIFT. Each new day is a blessing. Both my parents passed at age 56 (When I was 28). I believe a Positive Outlook and an Attitude of Gratitude is a must. An absolute JOY for me is my circle of 3 'Female' friends. Good, bad, ugly or sad ........ they hear you, see you & lift you up and carry you through!! The longest 'Talking' visit, 7 Hours lol. Early August 15th Birthday Wishes. Melinda, your truthful, authentic and oddly “relatability” is important and refreshing as many highly public people are over-coached when talking about the hard things in their life until it sounds like PR spin! You could have taken that route but it seems you chose an approach that was clearly freeing for you and that made someone like you more relatable even to women who can’t imagine your wealth and circumstances. Happy Birthday, I turn 60 this year also! 🎉❤

All of the women you have interviewed are wealthy and powerful. Women with money can feel younger than women without money. I can't relate to these women or learn from them. How do lower to middle class women feel about these things. Met Gala? This isn't reality for 99.9% of women. Nothing is more arrogant than the top 0.1% and how things are so wonderful. I'm comfortable with my retirement, but there were times that I thought that I can never stop working.

I so understand the feeling of being grateful for getting older. Several friends died before 30. Now, I’m in my mid-60s and a few friends my age and older are dying or have died in the past six months. It’s like, oh, here comes the next wave. Yes, life expectancy is longer but the 60s are a time when people die. It’s like the biblical “3 score and 10”, which is age 70, so yes, be grateful you made it beyond 70 to 75, 80, etc. So many people did not.
