Great video Hank, going to try these techniques out on my next figure build. Particularly liked your method on face painting. In the past I've got so hung up on trying to get the face just right using multiple thin layers of paint. A simple approach looks like the way to go. Great tip !
Me too, I have watched so many videos where people use a ton of layers and have to thin the paint to a perfect glaze, but it looks like simple is better!!
Great video. Nice technique. Don't know if any one else mentioned it, but the rear strap on the helmet and the carbine sling are actually khaki webbing just like the canteen cover and belt, not leather.
Thanks! Yes I've started glazing since I originally filmed this video - it's a great technique! If you'd like to check out my Franz Stigler painting tutorial, I go into detail on glazing there 👍
@@SpruesNBrews I found the link on their page to their online store...the link is right there at top of the page but still it is kinda hard to find. Thanks. Still, they are super pricey. It's probably a better way to get a solid 3D printer and print your own.
Hank, you make it look so easy yet the results are incredible and life-like. I build 1/48 armor and dioramas. I try to follow your technique on the smaller figures, which is difficult. First, after using all those great Vallejo paints, you used an AK for the white; why did you do that? Vallejo makes a great white and off-white. Were you simply out or do you find AK a better quality paint when it comes to white? Second, why did you prime/base coat your figure in black as opposed to white or light gray? Seems to me that skin tones on top of white would be more rich and organic, but I could be wrong. I sincerely appreciate your feedback as I am learning alot from you. Thanks.
Hey there! Thanks for the comment & for watching - two very good questions. I've had good luck with the AK Interactive White Aluminum which I why I use that - I like their metallics line & they're generally pretty easy to get on Amazon, so that's the reasoning there. And for the primer coat, I've done some of my figures with white & some with black. It's really personal preference, but you're probably right that white will give you a slightly lighter/richer complexion. Thanks again & happy building 🍻
I hate to be critical but, the sling on his M-1 carbine should be khaki or OD webbing not leather & the handle of his shovel should be OD green painted as well. But otherwise it is nice work...
wired thing that anoyes me why is there not 1/48 for tanks and 1/32 tanks i understand no 1/72 but my perfectonism will see the barely noticable size difrince
Great video! Just got back into modeling and have bought a good amount of Vallejo paints. I was curious though when it comes to hand brushing and Vallejo acrylics. Do you need to thin them before hand brushing them on? I wasn’t sure if it really mattered or not
Thank you! I'm still experimenting with which brushes I like best, but I talk about my current go-to in my "Best Gear for Beginners" video if you'd like to learn a little more about them. Thanks for watching!
Very Nice.

Outstanding work my friend Hank. I really like the way the flesh color came out. Kudos...
Thank you very much! I appreciate it 👍
@@SpruesNBrews fantastic job mate.
Your method with painting webbing on the helmet helped my a lot, thank you!
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching 👍
Your videos are a moment of Zen with an art lesson, I believe you to be the model painting Bob Ross.
That's so kind - thank you!!
Hello, what if I used a matte colorless varnish instead of a glossy one when shading with enamel?
It was a real treat to study your excellent work without irrelevant music blaring Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed!

Wow. Incredible work. My favorite part was the dark wash!
Great👌 I told you you'll get me with 101st airborne😉
Haha fair enough! 😅

Ahh yeah I took a few artistic liberties with it - I like to look of the red leather at this scale. Thanks though!
@@SpruesNBrews Good! It's a model and it's yours. Doing endless shades of khaki #6 does get boring after awhile.
Waiting for this! Thanks.
Awesome! So glad to hear - thanks for watching! 👍
I can’t find Ammo dark wash, is Ammo black wash the same
Really good, Thx.
Thanks for watching!
Hank another great little masterpiece. Amazing job!
Thank you very much! Too kind 😁
another great piece of work one thing is you should use a strategy called glazing you've probably heard of it but it serves me well! cheers mate.

Thank you very much! Welcome aboard!
Nice job! Congrats!
Thank you so much! Another beautiful figure 😁 I've got one of the new tankers to tackle next 👍
Awesome, I am using this method to paint up a Sherman crew for an M4A3 I just finished 👍
Very nice! Enjoy! 👍🍻
The "wash" on the end, what exactly is this product. How can i find it ? Great video and nice work :)
8:25 I think it’s Ammo Dark Wash
You make it look so easy lmbo great job ..🍻

Any tips and tricks to help with doing flags on the arms? Got a few 101st from Market Garden and they have the flag pretty much molded into the resin
Well done to you sir. Very nice work indeed
Thank you very much!
Those Alpine figures are 1) tough to find and 2) crazy expensive.
If you're stateside, you can buy them direct from Alpine with free shipping! And I know ultracast.ca carries them up in Canada as well 👍

Another excellent figure painting Hank! I see you use white aluminum a lot I don't have any can I use silver or something else?
Really great work on the figure! I just thought the paint job on the boots was a little bland.
I like to keep it simple 👍

Just a comment for the algorithm.
Another great figure Hank! Do you use any optical aids like a magnifying glass etc to help you paint small details?
Is it just me or does tamiya paint never get a finish like this? Btw great video Hank.
does matte varnish spray works as well? Or it needs to be airbrushed?
I think you could get away with a spray can, sure!
what's the reason that you dont do head and body together?
What fine point brushes are best?
What is the wash? Thinned out paint? Enamel or acrylic?
9 months late but its Mig enamel dark wash

Awfully painted. What a waste of good figures.
Thank you so much for the thoughtful, constructive comment 👍
Paint equipment before fixing to the figure.
Whatever works for you! I like to attach it first & paint all together 👍
