Hi David. I really appreciate the shots of the trowel work and the accompanying explanations of how it works. Thanks to your videos I'll be soon doing my first concrete project - just a small single step. Stay safe 👍
The little details you speak of, like talking about the piece of wood being white, are great pieces of information. Thanks for all the details. That is why I love your videos.
That’s awesome. If you’re a homeowner doing this make the sidewalk part flow into the entry. Having that hard right turn then a hard left turn to walk towards the door is dumb especially if you’re drunk, lol. This homeowner should have shaped it without having a corner at the end of sidewalk meeting the entry way. So basically a board done on this angle / to make it eliminate corner & make comfortable to approach entry and to make mowing grass easier. I’ve been a landscape designer/installer for 25 yrs( complete properties with grass, landscape, hard scape, waterfalls, pavers, tile, cement)and we get rid of just about any corners on a property. Looks better and is easier to maintain & in this case easier to walk to front door especially if you need to dolly cart anything into your house or a wheelchair.
great video, I want to do something like the small area (left side of the garage) but my concern its how many concrete bag could be need and its not necessary put wires before the concrete and avoid cracks??? you know will be a DIY project , I will appreciate your comments, Thanks
I live in Michigan where the ground freezes 4 months out of the year. You used felt board down along the sidewalk, but not along the existing driveway. Is there a reason?
Your a beast w that funny trowel, we don't have those in indy, (we do have funnyfloats)one of my viewers from Cali is sending me one, I thought that was pretty cool I wana show u my video of me using it. Is it OK if I send u a link? It's a really short video and funny too!
Great work. This looks amazing and thank you for sharing. I'm just curious if the new driveway will slide out from the existing driveway? Can a rebar be used to connect the existing driveway with the new one, or is that not necessary?
I see some people drill a hole on the side of the old concrete and stick some pieces of rebards I think is for the old and new concrete stay even all the time
Do you know about how wide this driveway was before and after? I'm thinking about widening mine to accomidate 2 cars, my driveway is currently 13' 8". Curious how much to add on.
I need to extend my driveway 2 feet on one side. If I did the prep work of removing grass and dirt, building the forms, what do you think a local contractor would charge for the concrete and finish work?
Nice. Not too bad. I'd consider trying it myself, I love all things diy. But after purchasing or renting the specialty concrete tools, I probably wouldn't save much doing it myself and would spend a considerable more amount of time
Hey there, great videos! So I'd like to widen my driveway (like most *other* human beings - when contractors will finally catch on & widen from the jump, idk). At any rate, I also think I'd like to paver it. Isn't it possible to paver over concrete & do you recommend taking the time & money to widen it with concrete before eventually pavering it all? Also, I'm ashamed I had *no* idea how much goes into the prep. 😔🤭
I noticed this video is 2 years old... so hopefully you see my question. How much would a small project like adding a small addition to the driveway be? Like what you did on the left side of the garage only? What was the a two foot wide addition? I need that for the same reason so my husband and I can park comfortably in the driveway. We got a 1950s house and their two car garage driveways and garages are a bit tinier than most 2 car garage driveways. I'd like a quote of what you would charge to come in and do it... just so I can prepare myself. Thanks
no steel or dowels. not your usual style. although this is a great service as finishing is the skill that takes practice and has to be done with timing.
I'll ask again...can you mention some "ballpark" pricing for these jobs. Lots of us here are probably thinking about concrete jobs around our homes, and it sure would be nice to have some kind of idea of cost
I would be charging around 3000-4000 for this job I’m from California concrete is expensive here and homeowners usually complain about the price but the reality is you only make around 300 profit in these small jobs
@@22pnc37 Another thing homeowners don't understand is that they're paying for the expertise of the finishers and concrete pourers. Until they attempt to pour it themselves they don't realize how much work goes into it and even worst when their DIY pour goes bad an they're paying for a truck on standby with drying concrete in the barrel or chute.
Question when putting the stakes to form the 2x4 do u only put the out the outside ?What do u do If the 2x4 is twisted can a stake screw in the inside where cement goes?
Great vid, thank you. Sometimes you use 3/8” and sometimes 3/4” stone in mixes for driveways and patio and walkways. I assume the 3/8 inch is easier to finish, so why use the 3/4 sometimes . Thank you.
If something is sloped like this driveway or steps you want something stiffer so it doesnt fall. If something is more flat you can get away with a higher slump like a 5
I think the most intimidating problem with doing concrete is not knowing how to handle it when it comes off the truck, meaning has is it too hot? Or is it too wet? that's the stuff I would be concerned about
I ddi the same thing to my driveway 6-7 years ago now, only I went stamped and colored to make it better match the front brick facade on my house. I never quite understood why they don't pour the driveway like this every time. Who wants to step out into a yard that might be wet/muddy for some reason.
@kylehiltner4185 yup, I've got the wire mesh spec'd, but realized that parking 2 SUVs on the driveway almost always requires one set of wheels to be on the grass, which will soon be concrete. Think I'll be adding the rebar pins across the cold joint to help transfer loads.

I’ve never seen concrete without rebar in Europe….And concrete in there,is considered the main building material, which is given a serious attention.

Following, thank you!
Would you have doweled into the existing slab? I definitely would have on the narrow strip
It's a good idea, but I think as deep as this went in I don't think it can move
Just here to learn, so why do we not use rebar here ?
Great videos

Looks great Wonder if you need any approval from HOA to make any extensions like this, thanks
If you do you should move
great vid. how come you didnt pin the new to old slab with dowels? thanks

How about the wire mesh, should we need some cuz a normal is about a ton heavy or even heavier

AWESOME!

Does pieces of rebars drilled into old slab and extended t a new concrete help with keeping them even flat with time ?
Sometimes
would it make a difference if i drill some rebars in the existing concrete to connect with the new?
Depends on the condition of the concrete

Do you need to add wire mash or anything like that if you plan on parking a car on it
It's optional
Just wondering shouldn't it be tied to the existing driveway?
Wouldn't hurt
Sir I noticed there was no rebar used. Why ? I’m researching for my driveway in Fl.
Owner didn't want any
Another interesting video and thanks for sharing, I see 3 competitors already dislike
Yes,That's the normal
