    I inherited the same machine. It is handy for questionable antique spark plugs. Or plugs that are absurdly expensive to replace.

    We were clearing out my dads shed a couple of months ago, Found an old B&D valvemaster machine. Serial number on it is '5'. It still works 🙂

    Nice. Those weren't used much after the '50s. You can still get new or used manuals (Ebay) but the 70's AC plug manual might be best. (It has instructions for 3 types of machine plus charts for which plugs to use.) Our HS shop had one like yours. Back in the 30's AC ran ads, "Have your spark plugs cleaned and adjusted for 5 cents each". There were several AC models. Earliest were round "cans" with a flat top, followed by the '30s model that looked like a propane tank. Then there was your style and the more delux model that used dials instead of view ports to see the plugs fire. IIRC, there was a chart for testing. You'd set pressure for the engine then use the dial to show "how good" the plug was. High compression engines required the plug to fire at a higher air pressure. The AC range was for a new plug. They were most useful for days when cars carboned up plugs without wearing them out and labor was cheap. Normally you'd pivot the plug in a small circle while blasting. You might need some "Genuine AC" sand.

      @@JimsNBHomestead I just remember the machine we used in HS, in 1970. The manual said to use AC blasting material... basically very fine white sand. Maybe they filter out the finest particles?

      yes it was likely Silica, i might try glass bead

    When they used those machines where marketed spark plugs were 25 cents for champions and 50 cents for ac Motorcraft plugs not really worth cleaning . Just throw a new plug in . However I got stumped by a sparkplug that would show good spark until the pug was under competition it wouldn't fire . A pressure tester would of been helpful. IT was a nightmare . 30 years ago but it was 1 time in 55years

      I have run into the ni fire under compression a couple of times with 2 stroke stuff. You are 💯 correct

    Soak rubber in ATF for a few days.
