    Just did mine. Popped the wiring loom out of the plastic bridge, then removed the bridge which made life MUCH easier

    I’ve been putting this off because I knew it was gonna be a pain in the ass. I have to replace my injectors so I guess I’ll do them both at the same time. I like realistic videos like yours because it shows how to overcome the challenges and not glass over them.

    I'm helping my neighbor change his gasket. We did the exact same things you did. The problem was lifting the rear of the valve cover up to remove it. That dang plastic harness holder. My neighbor was getting mad😊.Your video help us out👍

      I'm so glad it helped you! That dang harness was the most frustrating part of the whole job!

    I am literally in the exact same place as you. Wanted to get those 3 done during the Pandemic time off. Haven't because of the 1000 other projects I needed to get done. And am now at a week or so before work fires back up.

      I feel ya. :P You're in luck though. The second video in this series went up today! ua-cam.com/video/-fj-tmkb0WQ/v-deo.html I hope it helps you. I'm in the process of editing the final video now, where I actually get the oilpan and rear main done.

    Rear main too .. ? Wow. I'm about to start my 2nd tj, so much goop. This will be my... 5th straight 6 jeep cover job. Only had 1 that needed a new rear seal, a couple years later needed crank and main bearings too.
    Usually just the cover leaking making it look like it's every where.
    Better than the wife's leaky jku, oil cooler o rings, pull intake manifold 😢

      @SWBCrawler  5 місяців тому

      yea. when i did this i wasn't sure if the rear main needed it. so i did it just for good measure. i think it was just the cover too.

    I found it much easier to just remove the plastic wire cover in the back before taking the valve cover off and putting it back on after reinstall

      Yea, I dont know why I didnt do that. It looked like it'd be a pain to get to, but in the end, I fought it every step of the way, so was it worth not taking the time? Not sure.

    Those plastic CCV elbows are a pain. Not sure why some company hasn't produced an aluminum or stainless elbow as a replacement. Would be a vast improvement.

    And you put the filthy cover back on?

    FSM calls for disconnecting everything from the driver side and laying the entire harness over to the passenger to get that plastic harness cover out of the way. I got on YT to see if I REALLY have to disconnect all that stuff and though you did get it done without it, it's a different flavor of suck. I just hate separating connectors that have bathed in engine heat and probably haven't been touched for 17 years...let alone 15+ of them that comprise the majority of the engine control harness.

      @SWBCrawler  Рік тому

      yeeeaaa. i didn’t have an fsm to follow. disconnecting everything might have been worth it.. but i managed

    No engine degreaser recipe in the description as promised.
    Would also help to know what year your TJ is as there were 3 different versions of the 4.0L during the 97-06 model run all with different piping, wiring and bolt patterns.

      sorry about that! degreaser information is here:

    Good video, I think I change the harness before, so if I take the valve cover off its much easier. The change the tires, they chance everything of a Jeep, why not self modifed the plastic harness?

    • @SWBCrawler
      @SWBCrawler  8 місяців тому

      The harness/channel behind the valve cover? I didnt want to risk messing up the harness.

    What happened with the rear most grommet? Was it installed upside down like you thought, or was it correct?

    • @SWBCrawler
      @SWBCrawler  4 роки тому +1

      Well, when I installed it, i put it right-side-up like all the others. I cant be certain of it was actually upside down, or if it just popped off when I pulled out the VC. It sure was sitting right on the block like it was installed on the wrong side of the cover when it went in.
