- Lighting reflective subjects.
In this video I take you step by step through the process of making creative still life photography.
I will demonstrate how to use a diffusion material to produce a controlled gradient on reflective still life subjects.
From the studio lighting using just two flash / strobe lights, through the tethered capture in Capture one software, to the final image in Adobe Photoshop.
Every stage of the image creation is covered.
I'll use a Canon DSLR, tethered into Capture one software to show you how to capture your subject from basic image to completed photograph.
Ideas for art photography.
Profoto studio flash.
Canon 24-70mm f2.8 Lens.
Thank you for taking the time to explain the component parts of this project. A lot to take away and try out. I wish you well.
Very welcome
A great lesson on lighting and getting the quality of light that you want great for product shots even though this was still life.
Thank you
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you, I’ll come back to see more later .really nice image
Thank you, new video each week.
Such a great and helpful lesson on lighting - you are an amazing talent with teaching 🙌🏼 New follower and fan 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
Excellent demonstration playing around with light. Something I learned from this is that I need to dedicate a larger area for building a set. I usually try similar photos on a computer desk and feel cluttered or unable to control my lighting enough. Thank you!
You're welcome
I have learnt so much from your video. Slow steady, to the point, informative and packed with tips that have already helped me. Off to my make shift studio to give this a try. Thank you
Great to hear! I would like to see what you come up with.
Tried this photo and got a great result. Really lien your technique explanations and the step by step approach. Really helpful. Please do more!

Super interesting video. We shared it on our website.
Thanks for sharing!!
Very nice video! Thanks for doing it. I've been trying to duplicate this kind of shot with wine glasses. Controlling the reflections off the glass is a real challenge.
Have a look at my video with the wine glass
Thank you
Thanks for watching
As always excellent demo. Could you do a demo with splitting white light through a prism to show the split in colours?
Great suggestion!
Very useful video on how to work with reflective surfaces without getting unwanted reflections. I'm particularly interested in your kit ie the diffuser panel. Is it home made? And how it's attached to the C stand. Do you have a video which goes over this type of kit?
Coming soon!
Hi , how to find this black/dark mirror, how this is called?
Anybody know what I can use to get similar effects?
Thanks, brilliant video as usual.
The material is Gloss Perspex, also known as, acrylic, Plexiglas, Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), etc.
Nice tutorial … can you share the histogram of your image in upcoming tutorial? I am always getting confused with histogram when using a flash … thanks in advance
The histogram is visible in the top left of the Capture one screen shot.
Any videos showing the 4x5 in the background, for still life?
Not yet, but I'm working on it...!
@@CameraClubLive can’t wait. I still shoot a lot of large format and print in a darkroom
What is the name of the black ? that you are setting the objects on?
The black surface is a 3mm sheet of Perspex, you could use acrylic or ant plastic that will give just one reflective plane.
Too much "eh , aah and em" for me, but I learned a few things until I switched off.
Thank you for your comment, all comments help grow my channel.
