As someone who lives on the Chesapeake Bay, I must say the only unrealistic aspect of this movie is the locals being honestly surprised about deadly parasites in the bay.

One of the most disturbing movies I’ve ever watched. Images like the miles of dead fish in the ocean, that lady shambling like a zombie and throwing up blood, and the scene with the police officer. This movie was so scary and I highly recommend it!
This movie was disgusting and terrifying. It had a few features that I found particularly cool, like switching between different camera feeds and videos in different settings and quickly replaying parts that were foreshadowing a "twist" when the twist is revealed. It has a few nice jumpscares and manages to include a fair amount of gore without being too over the top. 10/10 would recommend
Guys, there was an outbreak of a virus in Chesapeake Bay, but it wasn't like this. The parasite in this movie is real, but it doesn't eat humans or run that fast. The name of this parasite is the Cymothoa exigua. Look it up and you'll understand how unrealistic this movie really is, even though it's still pretty cool. ;)

Barry Levinson: I was approached to do a documentary about the Chesapeake Bay. I started doing research and found there was already a great Frontline doc, but nobody cares-people say, "It's polluted, so what?" I said no. But a few months later, I thought, "We've gathered all this research; why don't we tweak it for a theatrical release? It is good for it's purpose, a horror documentary. It's scary because it gives you the feeling it really happened or could happen. Just don't expect a complex deep story, with much character development. It is found footage in it's rawest form but well made and quite disturbing from time to time
a lot of people will dismiss this movie because it is a "found footage" film. I, myself, don't really enjoy them but have watched some that were quite good. Not only could something like this happen, it's realistic enough to seem like it has. Never watched the trailer so I was shocked when it first came on and it watches like a documentary.
