I am on the same journey. I drank heavily for half my life. I have put my self through hell. I had a car accident that almost took my life and left my skull fractured in multiple places. None of the pain I went through was enough to stop the cycle. What did it for me was watching my little brother struggle with alcohol. I could not handle that. That is when I stopped. For him, for my ghosts, and all my loved ones in this struggle. I was able to stop for them. I am learning how community is equally important to finding inner peace as the inner self. My community is my motivation.
Keep it up @vikinginspace! What worked for me is telling myself over and over again that I am not a drinker. And take it one day at a time- even if you have a drink today you decide not to the next day. You can also try AA if you need to talk to others who understand what its like.
That's exactly what I did. I was drinking every night for many years. One day after waking up feeling the hangover shit again, I just decided that day I'm not gonna do this anymore. Haven't looked back. That was 2 1/2 years ago. It's nice to wake up and not have headache and heavy head every morning.

My Dad was an alcoholic. He died a little over two years ago. I think about him every day and always will. If you are currently drinking, there's always a better way.
Alcohol often becomes a crutch to mask underlying issues that truly require genuine attention and care. Instead of relying on spirits, it's essential to embark on a profound journey of self-assessment and life restructuring-a personal alchemy that stems from authentic soul expression. This involves addressing and eliminating the void and toxic elements in life, including soul-crushing situations, toxic relationships, draining environments, and unfulfilling jobs, which are crucial steps towards sobriety. To achieve sobriety and a more fulfilling life, it's vital to prioritize reconnecting with nature, embracing a more personal and intentional lifestyle, and gradually reshaping life into a more authentic and meaningful existence. Addressing trauma, toxic stress, and insecurities is part of filling the void left by not living genuinely and loving oneself enough to build a sustainable foundation for long-term well-being.
I went to the hospital with heart issues, and while there I went through withdrawals. DTs....10 days in ICU when I snapped out of that I never wanted alcohol again, pot too! It was like some demon left me. It's been over 2 years. I'll never drink again

I have 9 years clean/sober thanks to my using taking me to a state of total desperation and living on the brink of suicide. Getting clean has been one of the best decisions I've ever made, and being involved in a recovery program has helped me make other changes that have made it easier to stay clean over a long period of time.
Thank you for sharing. I have been through two divorces. With depression and the loss of another marriage put me in a place of binge drinking. With the grace of God I am now sober and in a better place.
I’m so glad for you, brother. Binge drinking is hard. For me, sometimes it just came out of nowhere, and now that my alcoholism has progressed so far, once started I simply cannot stop. I finally surrendered and believe in my powerlessness. I thought I had done this dozens of times before, but I didn’t believe it. I thought I’d eventually be cured after a long stint of abstinence, and could stop going to meetings and stop thinking about it. Something different happened during and after my last binge of self destructive behavior…this time my bingeing went outside its normal boundaries and was exposed to other people who otherwise assumed I was ‘normal.’ This affected me differently, and profoundly. I will never be cured, and the only way to stop the ‘out of nowhere,’ unpredictable starting is to counter the spontaneity with meetings, like minded friends, therapy, and turning my mess of a mind, and my sins, and my addiction to alcohol, over to God. The last part, turning my sins over to God, still is difficult for me. I rationally know I must do this, but I haven’t internalized this into my psychology yet - but with prayer, meditation, therapy, study, and practice, I do know I will get there.

Obviously you heard but did not listen he looked at his life after the event that happened near Christmas where he got into trouble for drinking and getting out of control and at that point he decided to not drink again….So he didn’t drink again.. end of story. If you are looking for specific advice then hear goes 1)cold turkey just stop throw away anything related to your particular vice and get rid of it, set a specific date to stop and start fresh on that day, if it’s better to be busy then do it during a work week if it’s better if you are at home then take a vacation, if it’s better to be away, then travel somewhere that would make it difficult to get back to your vice. 2) join a support group or AA . Get a sponsor to help you through the process 3)read a book about addiction to better understand what is happening and how to deal with the process 4) adopt some healthy habits IE. exercise, walking, cold showers, getting up early, not spending a lot of time on your phone 📱. 5) if you are creative then do some type of art , or a large project to occupy your time. 6)set realistic goals not I’m gonna quit forever, rather I’m gonna stop for today or stop for a hour or take a break from whatever for a set amount of time. Make the barrier of entry low and set expectations low. 6) hold yourself accountable but DO NOT beat yourself up if you don’t succeed that helps nothing. 7) stay away from people places or things that may be a trigger, if you drink then don’t go to bars, if it’s smoking stay away from others that still smoke, if it’s spending money then give someone control so you can’t access your money without being accountable for where it’s going.
Considering he said "I wasn't drinking all the time" and "I was in great physical condition for a drunk" (alcoholics often die of the effects of malnutrition) and "I just stopped" (literally lethal advise to a chronic alcoholic), this person isn't qualified to warrant a video titled "how to quit alcohol".

This guy didn’t ‘just stop’ on his own. He had severe external motivation that happened to be stronger than his desire to continue drinking. He had to stand in front of a board of colleagues and superiors, who were to decide his fate. He was HUMILIATED in front of these people, people he had interacted with in the past and will do so again in the future. This exposure would have been extremely traumatic, if he’s anything like me, and a very powerful motivation to enable his positive behavioral change. He is very, very fortunate.
What were you doing in 1792? You only live once, don't be a quitter. Yeah this guy has no idea what he is talking about. His advice if you have a problem with drinking is to just stop and you'll feel better? Buddy I need to not exist for awhile, I'm just trying to not kill myself.
