    Can you do another update? I am getting ready to donate my kidney to a friend and I am wondering what to expect after surgery and periodically several years out.

      Yes, I am coming up on my 1.5 yr post op.. any specific questions you have for me I can answer?

    • @esgee2464
      @esgee2464 Рік тому +1

      Yes, any changes in your body you have noticed such as fatigue, change in energy, weight, diet restrictions you’re adhering to? Are you required to stay away from alcohol? Vitamin/minerals you now take or stay away from? Testing? How often do you test and what do you test for? Do you do urine testing, blood, MRI or CAT scans periodically?

      @@esgee2464 I'll include this in an updated vid but I'll answer here too. Fatigue- I noticed it more during the first 6 months post op. Weight changes: I went into surgery at 165 then lost 10 lbs in those couple months after without even trying. I attribute that to not having much of an appetite while recovering. My appetite has def come back and I stay between 167-170 now. I stick to 4 oz animal protein per meal and drink about 80-90 oz water per day. I dont drink so they didnt mention alcohol to me. I take emergencees for vit C and a daily allergy pill. I stay away from other pills minus tylenol for pain. Testing: my center did post op testing 2 weeks post op, 6 months, 1 yr and 2 yrs then they release me. Just 1 vial of blood and 1 urine sample at a labcorp.

      No ct or mri's since before the transplant. I'll give a little more detail on what I noticed about getting sick with colds, flu etc based off what I have experienced this year thats new to me. Hope all goes smoothly for yall💚🙏🏽

    Hi just saw these videos. Quick question not sure if you have kids but wanted to see if you had any information about being a donor and wanted to have kids later in the future ?

    • @Thisjourneyofmine
      @Thisjourneyofmine  2 місяці тому +1

      Hi, no I don't have kids. From what I've seen from other donors I think they are just monitored more closely if they do get pregnant in the future. I'm almost 40 now so I think my time has passed. Hope this helps. If you're on facebook there is a living kidney donor support page with lots of donors who have had kids post donation. Hope this helps 😊

      @@JessicaSusan-ue5pt yes, Living Kidney Donors Support Group on facebook. It's a private group but once you request to be added the admin will review your submission to the group. I know many people have asked this question in that group too so once you are approved into the FB group you can do a search of prior posts related to post donation pregnancy.

    Your kidney donor videos are very interesting, thank you for details. How do you feel and what are your tests now ? What is createnin, protein in urine, urea, gfr?

    • @Thisjourneyofmine
      @Thisjourneyofmine  9 місяців тому +1

      Thank you, I feel good. My current creatnine is 1.04, protein in urine i will need to repeat as it said my specimen was too diluted for an accurate result, i dont see a urea result, egfr is 71. I was told not to go by egfr anymore as thats calculated for someone with 2 kidneys. To go by your creatnine and bun. My bun is 15. I just asked my post op coordinator if the 1.04 is too high and if i should retest. Overall I feel good, I have times when I dont drink as much water as i should and i can feel it very quickly. Hope this helps.

    Hi there. How have u been doing lately? Hope everything's good with your health.
    U mentioned loosing weight before the surgery. Was it something you had to do (like medical requirement) or you just wanted to?
    Also, could you pleaae leave your Insta name/profile here, couldn''t find you there.
    Thanx a.lot.

      Hi! I have been doing really good, thank you🙏🏽 I weighed over what they wanted me to so I had to lose some lbs in order to be approved to donate. I knew I was too chunky to begin with so it needed to be done anyway. 💚 My insta handle is thisjourneyofmine85

      Hope you continue to do well. Im nearing donation… passed tests - entering Paired Donation.
      You seem stressed about it. Suspect you are perfectionist / over achiever… just cause you look great and results are good. Thanks for sharing - expect I will freak a bit

      How are you? Is life harder now? Or the same? Do you feel healthy? I’m going to test to see I am a match for someone this weekend and just don’t know what to expect a year after or longer after surgery

      Hi! Sorry barely seeing this comment. Yes, I feel good. I am about 10lbs up from my donation weight so that sucks. I am working on getting my own nephrologist to keep an eye on me since its nearing my 2 yr post op and my clinic releases you (basically doesnt watch over you or labs anymore). I hope all goes well for you💚🙏🏽
