If there’s no longer an airbag then what purpose would the connector serve? Why would I send the adapter to get machined just to save a pigtail that I’m not using? This method has worked well for me. I’ve had it on my truck since this video was posted with zero issues. If some day I decide to go back to an oem steering wheel with the airbag then I’ll get the necessary parts from the junkyard.

In the video I show the part numbers of the items I used. The steering wheel came from Amazon and the adapter came from summit racing but Amazon may also have it.

Once steering wheel removed , I have the same airbag wire with that clip that at the base of the black hub...I saw you cut it at the base of the wires then removed the plastic piece with pliers...did your airbag light stay on? I thought the air bag wire needed a 2ohm resistor to remove airbag light. Help plz

With this specific adapter I had to cut the wire as well as the little plastic nub that sticks out. The adapter didn’t have a provision for it to slide into.
Kirbawesome this specific steering wheel didn’t come with a button for the horn, it came with a plug. if I get a horn button from grant it could easily be made to work. The hub kit came with all the components necessary to make the horn work.
YaGoonie 5.3 I don’t have the horn working on mine because the steering wheel itself didn’t come with a horn button but it can be made to work pretty easily. I plan to get around to it eventually.
I believe grant makes a replacement wheel that allows you to keep the airbag but I’m not sure. Might be worth looking into for you if you’re planning to swap the steering wheel.
No I actually haven’t. I don’t really use it often so I forget I don’t have one until I get pissed in traffic than I regret that I haven’t put a damn horn button in lol
@@johnwaynebrooks the increase in required effort to turn the wheel is minuscule. As far as the quality of the wheel goes I can only speak on my experience so far. I’ve had the wheel about 7-8 months in my daily driver. Truck doesn’t even have tints so the wheel has been getting beat on by the south Florida sun and so far so good. My original wheel was destroyed so this is a nice upgrade in comparison to the deteriorated wheel I had in the truck before.
@@REDRUMRx7 and I should say that the OEM wheel that's leather wrapped is nicer. The lower quality work truck wheel is junk. I put a grant wheel just like yours on my last Chevy in regretted it after 5 years of having miniscule stiffer turning. I wished I would have gotten one that was the same diameter. Grant does make a bolt on one for your truck that's very nice but I believe it requires you to have steering wheel controls.

I did see some grant factory replacement wheels but I believe they’re only for the 04+ trucks. Mine is a 99 and I don’t think they share the same spline.
Aldo Cabrera yea you pretty much just cut it off. The airbag light is unavoidable regardless since by installing this type of steering wheel you eliminate the airbag anyway.
I’m not 100% sure because in either 03 or 04 they changed the column. If your truck has the data link screen thing on the cluster then I think this adapter should work.

Yes the airbag light will stay on. My truck already had that light on so it didn’t bug me. The cord I cut was the power supply for the airbag.

The steering wheel didn’t come with a horn button and I haven’t ordered one for it. The horn could be made to work fairly easily though.

I think if you’d use the spacer in the kit; you may not have had to trim the column plastic....

I do not have a quick release installed but you could install any quick release that’s compatible with a 5 bolt grant wheel.

pull the cluster and remove the bulb for the airbag light, I swapped my seats for non airbag seats and had to do the same to get the light off

TreGocraa It’s a cluster from an 01 Denali. All the 99-02 clusters are interchangeable.
REDRUM Rx7 looked like a 03-06 cluster cause of the 120 on the dash
