Anyone who plans to do this I highly recommend taking the steering wheel off, bringing it inside your house, and doing it in a comfortable position. I did this once in my car before and it took like 6 hours of sewing and weird angles. Brought the steering wheel inside the second time and I got it done in 2 hours and was much more easier to get the stitching looking perfect
I have an impreza hatchback and I bought a wrx D steering wheel to do a swap on, since my new wheel will already be removed that makes it easier for me to install the cover in the comfort of my home👌
Cant thank you enough for this detailed demo including the threading! Every other channel skips that part or the manufacturer has different styles. You’re a life saver for beginners!
This is by far the most detailed step by step how to video! Thank you so much. I appreciate the instruction on how and where to apply the sticking tape, sewing technic and all the other tips 😊
Dude! Thanks a ton! I finally pulled the trigger on my Alcantara and just got the stitching done this morning. Took my a little over 95 minutes because I studied this video a few times before diving in! Your the best thanks a ton!
Don’t take off the second side of tape until you have the cover on. You’ll be able to make fine adjustments the take the tape off as you go. Otherwise, you make get buckling.
Just completed mine today (same, swede with top dead center red stripe). 3+ hrs, a few tears, a LOT of sweat but honestly, this video was PERFECT as a guideline! I AM NOT a mechanic but like to play with tools and cars, bikes and bicycles etc. and this was relatively straight forward. Even though I broke the thread AND used ALL loops to thread the cover, I still had left over. Fantastic product; great DIY video for anyone who's ok with a hammer. Final result after breaking the thread (mid-way through the top portion) is: Amazing tight feel. Makes the wheel thicker and so nice to hold in all angles when turning. I LOVE the new series WRX steering wheel and this cover accentuates it.
@@rr.cycles it’s not difficult it’s just time consuming just make sure you do it on a off day. If you use your phone for behind the wheel it helps too so you can see where your stitching but yeah I’ve had mine on for awhile and I didn’t use the tape. Well I tried it but it ripped my steering wheel the leather of it which sucks so I didn’t even put the tape all the way around on the wheel and it hasn’t moved or slipped off yet
I done this today. With wheel installed on car i fitted the fabric. I then removed airbag then wheel from car, then back plastic piece from wheel my removing 1 screw, then each button assembly and bottom trim piece only have 1 screw each. Very easy to do then you can do it inside if its hot etc
I just did this last weekend, I tried my hardest to do it without removing the wheel, but in the end I did remove it, it only took 5 minutes to remove once I got the airbag unhooked and as was stated before having the trim out of the way makes it 1000X easier to "tuck" the cover in
Took me about 3hrs with the wheel attached, a couple of places were difficult to see the back side and I was too stubborn to turn the car on and simply turn the wheel as needed. However if you are thinking about doing this I do recommend it, but also don't be stubborn turn the car on and turn the wheel as needed.
I did did this to my g37, I removed the steering wheel from the car & removes all buttons & trim, double sisded tape under the spoke areas & also baseball stitch instead of every stitch got the job done in about 1.5 hours.
I can be pretty critical when it comes to this type of “backyard” instructional video, this is the exception! Your explanations are on point as well as your camera angles. You did a great job!!! I found this video getting ready to cover our ‘15 Forester XT’s steering wheel. These custom fit covers appear to be worth the extra cost. Again, great job and thank you!
Way too tedious for me...your result looks good but I think once my wheel is worn to a point where it's bad, I'll just swap the whole wheel. I heard subaru will swap it with a 2018+ wheel or you can swap it with a factionfab wheel. Honestly swapping the wheel looks easier than this.
@Kradle to put your comment into perspective, and for the viewers information, how much will the dealership charge you for a new wheel, (airbag?), and installation compared to $80? Maybe 10x more?
@@Keyoff89 Once wheel is removed from car. There is 1 screw holding black back piece on. Then 3 screws behind that to remove all the buttons and bottom trim piece. Pretty easy to do
Let me give anybody some advice if you're going to use your thumb to push the needle or your index finger.... Put on a Band-Aid on your index finger or thumb and now you got some cushion for pushing the needle.
Don't see why it wouldn't. It may take a bit longer for you to feel it because it would have to heat the factory leather in addition to the extra fabric over top of it. All it is is a heating element under the factory leather just like heated seats. Think of it like this, if you sat in a car bare assed you would feel the heated seat faster than if you were wearing pants because the heat needs to heat your pants before you feel it.
I don't think the new subaru's have leather it's just some plastic with a stitching effect on it - and it is total shite. My 2000wrx had real leather and that lasted longer than the car. But my 17 is farked like this.
