I was thinking about getting the MT07, but than I changed my mind in getting the next best thing. This beautiful thing that you got. I would love to get the red, but in actuallity I don't really care forthe color as long as I can get that bike. I can't wait till I'm fully healed, and able to ride to get this bike.
Thanks for watching! The new gen MT-09s are hard to find these days, but if you really search around, they are still out there! Hope you recover quickly and that the search will be successful for you!
I own a 2017 FZ-09 that a bought new. Some of the great features of this bike is the ride position is so comfortable, the fact that you sit into the bike and not on top of it like my 2005 ZRX1200R, the CP3 cross plane motor just absolutely sounds amazing and I'm talking the motor not the exhaust, and my year the air intake sounds like a whistling freight train when you roll open the throttle in top gear. The stock brakes are really good you just got to let them pad wear into the rotor for a few miles until they mesh up. Power is everywhere on this bike as a blip of the throttle and your looking at the sky... This bike is all hooligan once you get used to it and its one of the most fun bikes to ride all day long as it comfortable and you can ride with any class of bike and still keep up with them... Yamaha really needs to get their head together with designing the front cowl cause my year looks like a transformer... I bought a slightly taller wind screen where it puts the wind more at my helmet than in my chest like the stock one does. Great bike and I've never had any issues with it since a bought in new in 2017...Good luck with yours...
Thanks for the video, I felt like reliving the day I bought mine :) Mine is black, never liked the colors for the 09 until I saw yours, that blue is gorgeous! In every MT-09 review someone says "I'm in love"
Happy for you! Enjoy riding and ride safe....i ordered a XSR 900 2022 and I have now a 1994 Yamaha YZF 750....for me it will be also a complete new experience of riding! I have ridden the MT09 last year in a test ride and I was already convinced.....cheers from Hamburg Germany...dado
I’ve been riding mine for about a month as well, and I would have to agree! Still not the best brake pads I’ve tried, but they have no trouble getting the job done.
@@KentRoads Depends on how it’s been modified. Stock horsepower for the 2020 R6 is 116.7 hp @ 14,500 rpm and torque is 61.7 Nm (45.5 ft-lb) @ 10,500 rpm. Compare that to the MT-09, which has 117.4 hp and 93 Nm (68.6 ft-lb) of torque @ 7,000 rpm, you end up with two bikes with very similar top speed characteristics (with the R6 being even a bit faster due to its gearing), but the MT-09 has way more torque. That’s what makes these bikes so fun to ride.
@@RynoDinero you won't regret selling your R6. You'll have much more usable power on the street than if you were on a sport or Supersport. I'm selling my 2018 model for the 2023 one.
After riding the bike for about 1000 km, they've definitely improved, but they still don't have as much initial bite as I would like. Just personal preference more than anything, but I like it when the braking power starts right away, pretty much as soon as the pads touch the rotor (10-20% of total brake level travel). With these, it feels like the braking power doesn't really onset until about 40-50% of total brake lever travel.
Tips for new MT-09 owners. You can set a rev indicator for 5300rpm during break in, which you are not supposed to pass, that turns it orange. Very handy. And break in is easier in drive mode 4 as it cuts the power back a bit.
Great tip! Those are both great tools to help with the break in process. To add to this, the wording in the manual states, “avoid prolonged operation above 5300 RPM [for first 600 miles / 1000km]” Short bursts above 5300 RPM (even up to redline) are okay and even beneficial during the break in process as long as they’re not sustained. They help to bed in the cylinders over the full range of RPMs that they will encounter. Fortnine covers this topic in the “How to Break In Your New Motorcycle” video. My dealer told me, “Ride normally during the break in. Don’t run speed trials or bounce the engine off the rev limiter and you’ll be fine.” The 5300 RPM is more of a guideline than a hard rule.
@@FullThrottleFreedomChannel I somewhat agree. It's not a hard limit but the idea is to polish all surfaces. This include cams, crank etc. And even though fortnine is a great channel I think polishing is done carefully. So I would ride softer than normal. High revs cause higher load on surfaces but some short bursts with limited throttle is probably a good idea. 😊 And this will not show up until years later if done wrong. Any new engine can be run however you like. But it will affect the longevity of the engine.
So relatable, wanted the black one myself. Would be sept to be arriving here in the netherlands! They did had the blue one in the showroom, and went for it! It actually looks/ pops out better than just black all over! Happy with it! Drive safe!

This is solid advice. Unfortunately, I had to learn this the hard way when I first started riding a few years ago… I always rode to 90 or 95 percent of my limit, and one day I crossed over that threshold. I didn’t have the training to correct my mistake before I hit the ditch. I fortunately walked away unscathed, but sadly I ended up totaling my first bike. Hard lesson to learn. I am still by no means an exceptional rider, but I’ve learned to be much smarter on a motorcycle. I’ve heard great things about the XSR 900, and the great thing is that, either way, you’re getting the same engine. I personally like the MT-09 platform better, but really, it comes down to personal preference and availability. You’ll love it either way you go!
You must be in Canada, eh? Yeah, breaks take a couple hundred miles to seat, pads are kinda junk anyway. Replace those pads with EBC DOUBLE-H sintered pads, $40 per rotor. Absolutely guaranteed the best money you'll spend, HUGE difference.
Haha, what tipped you off? You have good taste! I just put the Extreme Pro version of the EBC double-H sintered pads on my 2004 ZX10R. A little more expensive that the general double-H, but they have extra ingredients and an even higher quality manufacturing process (vacuum furnace) that makes them suitable for track use, while still being acceptable on the street.
@@FullThrottleFreedomChannel Yeah, EBC great stuff. I found a screaming deal on a '18 mt late summer and I'll be putting them on it probably long before oem are toast, at least rear.

The SP wasn't available until way later into the summer as well... Or they were sold out at other dealerships. The blue was basically my only option if I wanted an MT-09 this year and still be able to ride the thing. In hind sight, I still have no regrets.
The only reason I ask is because I have just ordered an sp myself, scheduled delivery early September. I like the original colour combo slightly more than the sp but I couldn’t miss out on the extra bits it comes with. Does yours have cruise control?
@@MorManIg Fair enough! You won't regret going with the SP at all. One thing I've learned about colors, is that 9/10 times the color you get ends up growing on you anyways. Definitely! This bike’s a keeper for sure. All the torque and acceleration you could ever want out of a street bike and lots of tech and electronics to compliment. It does top out at 231 km/h (143 mph) though, so it definitely doesn’t have super sport speed if that’s what you’re going for.
You’d think, hey? Their justification was that it allows the shock and forks to break in a little bit, but it shouldn’t matter in my opinion. I think it’s also to see if I have any other issues with the bike before we adjust any of the standard settings.
Thank you! I don’t like that gap either. Jacket is okay, I think it’s the gloves that are too short. I just need to pick up a pair of gauntlet style gloves.
To be honest, it’s not the best starter bike unless you are already somewhat familiar with riding. And even then, I wouldn’t start on something this new regardless of how much I knew about bikes. It’s a perfect second or third bike though! But, if someone did decide to start on a 2021 or newer MT-09 (has to specifically be 2021 or newer), there are 4 different drive modes that would let them build up to the bike’s full power.
@@victorhuang5516 Might not be a bad idea! The reason I say that is that a lot of people end up dropping or tipping over their first bike, and end up dinging it up. And if you don't, then that just means whatever bike you buy for your first bike will hold more value when you're ready to sell! Not to mention that learning to ride can be hard on a bike from all the stalling, harsh/choppy inputs, wear on the clutch from learning how to shift and get the bike going, etc. Finally, bigger bikes are harder to control which can further contribute to dropping or looping the bike. Hope you find something that you love!
Been looking to get an MT-09 for a while now but they’re almost impossible to find here in Arizona. Can dealers place orders for you? Or do you kinda just have to wait? Currently there are ZERO 2022 MT-09’s for sale here in Arizona(according to Yamaha website and cycle trader).
It’s definitely a supply chain issue from Yamaha. I pre-ordered mine back in January and I only just got it in mid-May. When I ordered mine, most dealerships were already sold out and they hadn’t even received the bikes yet. Other manufacturers also have limited stock, but Yamaha is one of the worst, from what I’ve heard. Unfortunately for most places, I think the stock that they received (or that’s being shipped right now) is the only stock they’re getting from Yamaha for the entire year… My dealership didn’t get any 2021 models AT ALL, and they are only getting 2 MT-09s and 1 MT-09SP this year, and that’s it.
@@MrMcReeties I know man, the past couple of years have sucked… Don’t lose all hope though! You’d be surprised what a couple of phone calls and a little bit of determination can get you.
@@FullThrottleFreedomChannel thank you for the well wishes! I’m gonna keep on trying! Keep up to good work here on YT! You’ll hit 1k subs in no time! Thanks again!
Yes, go to the dealer and place an order or get on a wait list. Yamaha has been like this for a long time with certain models. The last one I waited over a year for was the WR250R.
If you watch carefully, I was actually very smooth on releasing the clutch. The problem was that my old bikes friction point is very different so I’m used to rolling on the throttle quite a bit earlier. It was more muscle memory thing, and that is what you were hearing in the video 😅 Not an excuse, but it’s a common thing for people who switch to this bike.
Definitely! The brakes do need to bed in, but I also just replaced the brake pads on my 2004 ZX10R, so I am comparing to how those felt during the bed in process (I should have mentioned that more clearly). The brakes do feel a lot better now that I’ve fully bedded them in, but they still are a little less powerful than a super sport.
You might get a little surprised by the extra power, but the newer models have different drive modes that limit the power output and let you ease into the new bike
Surprisingly, no. It’s been over a month now, and if anything, I’ve grown to like the blue a little bit more than the black. That being said, I probably would’ve said the same thing about the black if I had got it. To me, the bike is good enough, that I would be happy with any color I got it in.
@@FullThrottleFreedomChannel what about the Cyan Storm, do u like that color? I want to get a new MT09 but i can't decide which color. The Cyan is a bit too loud i think. Tough decision.
@@joeyp4196 I can see the appeal for Cyan Storm and I also wouldn’t complain if I had it, but I don’t know that I would pick it if I had other options. Haha, tough choice! All three options are available for you?
@@joeyp4196 If I had both options available, I think I’d still go for black. Love my blue, but there’s just something so sleek and clean about that black that I can’t help liking it just a tad more.
Nice but I would’ve waited on the black. It’s so rare and just pops. I don’t care for the two tone blue, looks goofy to me. Paint it all one blue color and wheels black like the 2016 model, then we’re talkin.
That’s what I thought at first too, but I’ve really come around to the blue! And funny enough, I ended up seeing the black in person when I was picking up some other parts, and after getting so used to the blue, the matte black tank looked kind of funny to me. Still love the look of the black, but no regrets on getting the blue, especially since I’ve been able to do so much riding with this one already.

Thank you! I don’t like that gap either. Jacket is okay, I think it’s the gloves that are too short. I just need to pick up a pair of gauntlet style gloves.
Would you say the MT-09 is a really good starter bike?
To be honest, it’s not the best starter bike unless you are already somewhat familiar with riding. And even then, I wouldn’t start on something this new regardless of how much I knew about bikes. It’s a perfect second or third bike though!
But, if someone did decide to start on a 2021 or newer MT-09 (has to specifically be 2021 or newer), there are 4 different drive modes that would let them build up to the bike’s full power.
Thanks for the advice. I’ll probably look into the used market first then.
@@FullThrottleFreedomChannel Well that’s very depressing :( I might have to wait until the 2023 then I guess. Gonna call a couple dealerships tomorrow
Dude, you don't know how to release the clutch smooth do you?
If you watch carefully, I was actually very smooth on releasing the clutch. The problem was that my old bikes friction point is very different so I’m used to rolling on the throttle quite a bit earlier. It was more muscle memory thing, and that is what you were hearing in the video 😅
Not an excuse, but it’s a common thing for people who switch to this bike.
You'll enjoy it more with an aftermarket pipe trust me😀.
Don’t tempt me 🤣
@@FullThrottleFreedomChannel do it, do ittttttttttt!!!🤣🤣Can't be watching all the way from Kenya and you fail me on this one haha.
Are you from Alberta? That western Canadian accent is really making me curious if I'm right or not?
Lol, yes I am! Good on you for picking that up
brakes also need to breake in ?
Definitely! The brakes do need to bed in, but I also just replaced the brake pads on my 2004 ZX10R, so I am comparing to how those felt during the bed in process (I should have mentioned that more clearly).
The brakes do feel a lot better now that I’ve fully bedded them in, but they still are a little less powerful than a super sport.
what part of canada are you from? i need rider friends
Alberta 😄
i have an sv650 if i jump to mt09 am i going to get surprises if i try to ride normal?
You might get a little surprised by the extra power, but the newer models have different drive modes that limit the power output and let you ease into the new bike
@@FullThrottleFreedomChannel im worried if i accelerate too hard when taking off i will wheelie
@@t.m9341 Hahaha, it’s got a lot of power for sure! If your bike has drive modes and lift control, you’ll be fine 🙂
@@FullThrottleFreedomChannel im worried ill jerk the throttle somewhere in the first week and go vertical
They messed up the headlight
I personally like it. Liked the old Gen 2 style as well
I agree and I own one although all the pros of the bike really do more than make up for the cyclops headlight. The MT09 21/22 is a gem of a bike.
any regrets on not getting the black?
Surprisingly, no. It’s been over a month now, and if anything, I’ve grown to like the blue a little bit more than the black. That being said, I probably would’ve said the same thing about the black if I had got it.
To me, the bike is good enough, that I would be happy with any color I got it in.
@@FullThrottleFreedomChannel what about the Cyan Storm, do u like that color?
I want to get a new MT09 but i can't decide which color. The Cyan is a bit too loud i think. Being that im 47, not sure its for me. But if i had it, don't think i would complain.
The black is fire! I think the black will win even though other days im like man that blue is bad ass too. Tough decision.
@@joeyp4196 I can see the appeal for Cyan Storm and I also wouldn’t complain if I had it, but I don’t know that I would pick it if I had other options.
Haha, tough choice! All three options are available for you?
@@FullThrottleFreedomChannel only black and blue right now. Haven't put a deposit yet. Still deciding on color.. what do u think..
@@joeyp4196 If I had both options available, I think I’d still go for black. Love my blue, but there’s just something so sleek and clean about that black that I can’t help liking it just a tad more.
Having your left hand hang off like that is a bad habit bro. Hold onto the bars.
For sure. I assume you that mean with my gesturing?
Nice but I would’ve waited on the black. It’s so rare and just pops. I don’t care for the two tone blue, looks goofy to me. Paint it all one blue color and wheels black like the 2016 model, then we’re talkin.
That’s what I thought at first too, but I’ve really come around to the blue! And funny enough, I ended up seeing the black in person when I was picking up some other parts, and after getting so used to the blue, the matte black tank looked kind of funny to me.
Still love the look of the black, but no regrets on getting the blue, especially since I’ve been able to do so much riding with this one already.
@@FullThrottleFreedomChannel at least you got to see one. I think Iowa & Nebraska got allocated 5 TOTAL between the 2 states. The bike and I’m guessing the new XSR are like unicorns. Yamaha failure big time.
That clutch definitely won't last long. 2:15 😭
Hahaha, the clutch is all good but it definitely took some getting used to… It grabs way later than other bikes
I think u can adjust the grab of the clutch to ur liking
RIP clutch
Lol clutch is fine, I see lots of guys doing clutch ups all the time on these things without any issues.
Took some getting used to though. Very late clutch engagement compared to other bikes.
Ki navalha .
What is your height Sir?
I’m 6’-0” (183 cm)
@@FullThrottleFreedomChannel thx for your response mate. I'm considering buying the sp model but I was having seconds thoughts for my height (1.85). How it was for you ?I test Ride it for a 20 min but I couldn't understand if it will fit me after 3-5 hours trip
@@user-wk2vm7fv2p The MT-09SP is an excellent choice! I found mine to be very comfortable and roomy. I didn’t find any pain or soreness after longer rides, but the longest I was on it was two hours.
In comparison, my wife rides a Honda CB300F, which I ride sometimes, and that bike is tiny compared to the MT-09.
You tried a trip with your wife? ( Asking coz I wanna make some small trips with my gf. Is she comfortable?
@@user-wk2vm7fv2p Yes, I took her out a couple nights ago! She said she liked it a lot, especially coming from riding on the back of my ZX10R. She said it was comfortable, super smooth and she liked that I blocked out most of the wind lol
bad not cruise control bad only
sp have that :(
Looks like Jack Carter South! You're in my neck of the woods 🪵
It sure is!
I can’t believe this guy doesn’t know how to shift or use a clutch the right way and he’s afraid he needs to go to a safe space
Agreed 👍🏻
Pretty sure this guy is not going to track day
Lol, why not?
Congrats man, cool bike! Check my channel if u want, I drive a mt09 gen3 aswell:) Drive safe!
Thanks! Love the Akra exhaust on your bike man!
wait until you need parts from Japan LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha, definitely! Luckily the parts are cheap compared to some other brands.

It’s a Yamaha….so unlikely it will ever need replacement parts unlike some junk brands from Europe that start with a K, D, and B.
