I just watched your vdeo because I'm in the process of buying a '24 one. Non SP. For context, I come from two 1290 Super Adventure, after a 990 SMT. So, one reason for the MT-09 was that I was looking for something simpler, cheaper, lighter (and with less wind protection, so that I have to ride slower). So, when pulling the trigger on the Yamaha, I had to decide wether or not I wanted to wait for the SP to be available. And I happily chose to go for the regular MT-09. Because I'm heavy. 120 kg heavy. And while I'm sure that the SP's suspension is better (although it's not Ohlins at the front...), I'm also convinced that the SP's suspension are set for a 75 kg rider, as well. Just with better overall quality. So even with the SP, I would need to respring both the shock and the forks for good handling. And here is the kicker: a good shock would cost me around the 6-800 euros mark, while good springs for the fork would be around 200 euros. Well below the premium for the SP, for a bike that would actually fit my weight and my riding. Anyway, I should get the MT in a week or two. I will test it properly this summer (including a track day), and decide if I want to work on the suspension during the winter... or wait and see what the R9 looks like when it comes out. As a sidenote, I test rode the '24 MT-09 and the MT-10 back to back, and even if the 10 is more stable and a lot more powerful, I felt much better on the 09 overall, considering that it will be my only bike. Much lighter, much more practical, much more fuel efficient, better dash... This bike, in its regular trim, was a no brainer for me. I will miss my LC8, that's for sure, but eh... Cheers from France.
You have to be a pretty good HiPo rider to notice the SP difference. I have '23 XSR9 and wondering if the Gold anodized front Forks are the same KYB's as on mine? AFAIK the Ohlins rear is the main difference. I don't think a passenger is ever going on mine, so the remote Ohlins doesn't make sense in my case. The Rear Preload w/Rebound Adj only on the XSR does a great job for me. Looking for a Video which compares the MT-09 vs XSR9 rear swing arm differences.
Great to see your view on this bike! I've got a MT-09SP on order for 2023. I'm excited what updates they'll add to it for next year. Switching from a '21 MT-07 great bike but I'm ready for something bigger and with a bit more umph.
I love my MT09 only had 3 months on it last year....can't wait for bike season this year. Got a new Dominator GP3 exhaust to go on before the fun begins 👌🏴
ive just bought a brand new 23' mt09SP from Albury NSW. Love the bike, I find the factory mirrors fanastic, great view behind, i dont get why lots of people want to change them, ive seen some aftermarket ones that look like wifi router amtennas haha. Ive just done 1,000kms on the bike and have been keeping the quickshift under 5k revs, today just been playing in the 5k revs + with quickshift and she sings, easily gets to 100. And shes so numble in the twisties (with the SP suspension), Horrible turn circle in the shed (compared to interceptor 650). cheers from Australia
I have same bike, even same color. Love mine, I've had it just over a year now and I pretty much ride it daily even though winter months. It's a ball and I'm still learning how the bike reacts to certain modes. Unfortunately with everything on mode 1 it will loop 💯. Didn't think it was supposed to allow you to do so but we are still learning which modes is best for what we are doing. Thanks for the video bro 👍
@@mattyh7060 he gave a hint in an earlier bid, the one about starting a channel. Search for such and such a camera reviews, but I haven't got around to it. Too many great bike vids on this channel. And I haven't got time for yet another hobby! 😂
I've just traded my 2016 MT09 which I bought new for a brand new 2022 MT10. I loved the 09 but the 10 is a whole different level. It's nice having suspension that works. The gen 1 09's were like a jet powered pogo stick.
hahaha jet powered pogo stick is so true - I use mine at the track so shelled out the extra cash for after market fully adjustable suspension and had my shop suspension guru tune it for my weight and riding. It's amazing with suspension tuned. Haven't ridden the MT10 and afraid to go ride it because I'm sure I'll love it. I owned the 07 for a bit before the 09
Love my 21 mt09 so but the handlebars wobble under high speed/acceleration. Almost wishing I went with something more sporty for my riding style and preferences
Sean Budby 0 seconds ago My cuz it’s a tft screen not a lcd screen. Another best option is Yamaha have add on heater grips that are plug in play an the display will come up on the screen. I got my 22sp back in 2022 for the same ride away price as a standard 09, lucky I knew the dealer lol.
It would be good if you could do an review/comparison of the Kawasaki Z900? The Z900 is more likely to be more completely stable in the corners, so there is no need for an steering damper. And has the advantage of an 17 litre tank, which would be better for touring. Remember the MT 09 only has an 14 litre tank. Although the Z900 does not have an quickshifter. I guess the Z900 is one of the main competitors to the MT 09 along with the current Street Triple...
Test ride both. I promise you will fall in love with the MT. Why? Because it's simply more fun to ride. The z900 is like any other 4 cylinder bike I have tried. It's fine but it isn't that much fun. You have to rev the crap out of it and it is just bland sort of.
Tried both and the SP is not worth it imo. The cruise control has no point on a hooligan bike. And the suspension was fine on the SP but I didn't find it actually added anything. Don't like the paint on the SP either. But for someone that intend to squeeze every millisecond out on that twisty bits I suppose it is may improve times a tiny bit. For me, I would get the standard one and spend the money on gear, other upgrades or whatever.
Where's your sfv2 comparison? Time to get onto 890 duke R and superduke, and new mt-10, and all other goodies, want all the videos as a tuono v4 and 690 SMC r owner.
I just bought a mt09 sp and I tried the standard mt09. Honestly the standard felt really good to me and my weight is 78kg. They only had one sp in stock and I bought it, I haven’t tried it but it can only get better. Regarding the Hooligan. My god! I rode like a total idiot and this bike’s really makes you want to hoon around 😂 love it and can’t wait to try my own😛weather is terrible here👎🏻👎🏻
I had the sv 650.. now on a mt09 sp agree with u guys the mt is a beast .. but that v twin had a lot of character and i could wind it out more here in switzerland on the small and slow roads
@@Samenotter in SV650 defence it looks gorgeous, at least the one I got. On the contrary I don’t particularly like the way the MT09 looks, but it’s very subjective

they still have gen 3 23 models running out the door new or demonstrators bro. The SP is worth the extra money.
I'm loving my SP the additional cost to get cruise control and the upgraded suspension was worth every cent, what a cool channel.
think you need a steering dampener with the upgraded suspension?

I find changing from 1st to 2nd I use the clutch in drive mode 1, after that it's smooth as butter 👌
Also I fitted the Dominator Gp3 exhaust...game changer...... No ECU tune needed, plug and play 👌🫶
Street triple RS has more ultimate power but the MT09 feels much more beefy in the real world. Torque rules😊
this route you took is beautiful! Nice video

The only sp difference in the frontend is that is fully adjustable. The shocks are the same - KYB

Same color here and it's winter here as well but I dress for it. Sunny days I'm on it, salt on the roads get tricky at times LOL

I have a gen 3 SP. Best thing ever. I'm open the fat prick side of fat and the suspension is brilliant.
