    Nice video dude. A-10 pilot here. I actually did this two weeks ago (with CBU-105 on the UTTR). So, I can confirm that it works. You could't carry as many WCMD cans vs legacy CBU, but you get the point. Also, after the wings were cleaned off you sill got a lot of 30mm and with PAC off you get some good effects (ask the convoy of ISIS near Fallujah in 2016) I'll have to set this up in my simulator (the big one at work, lol) and see if it has the same results as your DCS simulation. Attack!!

    • @Pukin-Dog
      @Pukin-Dog 2 роки тому +1

      As someone who's actually used a 105 do you think the damage modelling is even remotely close in DCS vs real life? This video shows a test of a 105 and whilst it's hard to be sure there appears to be no penetration of this M48 despite at least 6 hits from 4 seperate bombs........I realise that the M48 will have no fuel and ammo so will not "brew up" even if it were penetrated.....the Skeets each have 2lb of explosive with a 1lb copper penetrator which should penetrate 80-120mm of RHA so "could" make a tank blow up like we see in DCS....but first of all most skeets seem to miss entirely and those that do hit are just as likely to not penetrate (eg the glacis on an MBT) or simply pass through with nothing but a big hole.....e.g. anything bar the cab or fuel tank of a truck. Do you think DCS is accurate or massively over effective. Indeed from videos I have seen on CBU 87's I'd expect these to be far more effective against trucks than a 105. I'd love to know your thoughts ua-cam.com/video/5wMuTdfaEzA/v-deo.html

    • @Team.Madman
      @Team.Madman 2 роки тому +12

      @@Pukin-Dog CBU is pretty effective and can be ripped in pairs or in rip singles. This gives you the option for a wider or longer pattern. Additionally, the RPM and Hight of Function can be set to increase density of munitions if the Armor is thicker vs light skin vehicles. So yes, 4 cans fuzed correctly with the right profile could do some serious damage. Now think 4-ship of A-10s. Thats 16 CANS and a lot of GUN. I got 69 vehicles in Iraq once with just gun and secondary explosions.

    • @DSiren
      @DSiren 2 роки тому

      @@Pukin-Dog As an additional note to the A-10 pilot's response, also note that the russian armor columns seen in Ukraine are at most 20% tanks. The rest are APCs, IFVs, or trucks (with the SAMs being inoperable during transit), so killing the tanks isn't even necessary to destroy the units and force survivors to organize reinforcements. Tanks without escorts are free kills for ambushing infantry, so killing the APCs and IFVs is arguably significantly more impactful than focusing on the tanks with your CAS assets.
      Besides, in the first place, destroying more than 20% of a unit's equipment/personnel is enough to seriously neuter its offensive capabilities due to not meeting minimum requirements for their tactics/doctrine, forcing commanders to improvise and compromise. Even the Russians with their doctrinal low value for soldiers' lives will be forced to reorganize and reinforce units damaged by 20% or more, as proven in Ukraine.

    • @Pukin-Dog
      @Pukin-Dog 2 роки тому

      @@DSiren The 40km convoy was pretty much no tanks...they were almost entirely support vehicles, trucks etc. All the tanks and APCs were already toward the front....my question to him was about the effectiveness of 105s against MBTs specifically and not related to the convoy...and the question was related to online footage of 105s tests which seems to show them being incapable of penetrating even an old M48 tank (unless it hits maybe the engine bay....specifically this one ua-cam.com/video/5wMuTdfaEzA/v-deo.html Indeed the 105 doesn't seem particularly effective against trucks either. The skeets are just as likely to pass straight through a truck causing little damage unless it hits the cab, fuel tank etc... so an CBU-87 is probably more more effective against trucks than a 105 as they have a much bigger shower of debris. 105s are "probably" best against modern IFVs which might be immune from a CBU 87

      Its probably got SHORAD up the ass along with more medium range shit here and there. The whole convoy exists because Russia thought it would be Crimea 2.0. Once they realized it wasn't, they began pushing a shit ton of logistics in, which if you understand how Russians do logistics, you would know that trucks aren't really their thing. They've probably been spending the past couple of days building their LoC's up for upcoming major offensives and sieges on cities such as Kiev. tl;dr Shit's about to pop off hard in Ukraine.

      @@originalpastaman5470 I wonder if the Bayraktar can support clusters. They really should be targeting artillery as that and air is the only thing Russians can hit cities with without getting their hands dirty. Once that's out of the way, the Russians would be forced to push and there would be a lot of defences / traps/ ambushes set up in urban environments waiting for them and would probably lead to a Ukrainian victory. It seems it is unique and they should make more of them. I wonder if Lockheed just keeps pushing what they want to and what is on assembly line now and of that is causing this? I imagine one benefit as you highlighted to the A-10 is that it is faster and less vulnerable than a helicopter and yet slower than the fast jets that need mote airspeed and also don't hold armor piercing bullets.

A single fully loaded aircraft can basically devastate a significant amount of the entire convoy, and make the already hellish logistics support even more fucked than it already is, because now you have dozens of burning wrecks that used to be vehicles blocking either the very front meaning the convoy has to go off-road to get further, or both ends basically cutting off any attempt at escape unless they want to go off-road and risk breaking their vehicles. Just a few of these things can ruin the entire convoy in minutes.

    S2 Underground had a good point for explaining why the Russian military convoys are like this. Basically, the US knows to create dispersion and all that stuff only from decades of fighting insurgencies with IEDs. The Russian military hasn't really had to do that, at least not on the level that we did and definitely not enough for them to change their doctrine. So basically the reason why is because that's just the way they've always done it and they've never really had much of a reason to change it. Which is funny considering the wealth of information on the internet nowadays, they could've easily learned from us.

      Air defense weapons are not a relevant threat either, US doctrine has it that A-10's don't operate when their are air defense systems, so they would be targeted and destroyed by gen 5 platforms prior to an A-10 entering the AO.

    Supposedly, the reason they had to put all their vehicles on the road is because the tires were poorly maintained due to low level corruption. The low levels receive money to move and maintain the vehicles once a year which they did not do, instead they pocketed the money and as a result the tires bust when subject to the stress of going off road.
