Titleist is #1. 2 years ago I was custom fit for 2021 T100S irons 48 deg thru 6 iron. Best ever. Last year I added a T150 5 iron. Consistency/feel/sound is amazing. Forged head and very forgiving with plenty of tungsten hidden in the heel & toe. Keeping these until the grooves were out.
I'm a taylormade guy who went for iron fitting, and ended up with t150s. 3i to gap. Felt the absolute best. Descent angle is sharp enough most stop within 2 feet of contact on the green.
What a great facility, so many options to choose from. He knew everything about everything. I like that you could see the ball flight and the computer version.
Love the graphite shafts. I play MMT 105 S hard stepped once with P7CB in scoring irons. Absolutely love them and for someone that’s been in construction for 25 years, they really help with my body pains, especially in my hands and wrists.
Fantastic fitting by SGGT that’s how it should be done, you can only come away from that experience thinking everything that could have been done has been done.
What a superb and informative video. It's amazing when you don't have a pre-decided idea of what you want and just go with what's suitable for your game. It's important to like your golf clubs and enjoy playing with them so if you cam get both, it's ideal. Great video again, James.
That is something else and I will be taking my lad there for sure usually use another premium fitter but was very very interesting and will no doubt benefit any player for sure. BIG thanks to you James and Lawrence great stuff.
Absolutely agree with the graphite shaft opinion. I was fit into the Mitsubishi OTi graphite shafts and MMT wedge shafts and I'm never going back .They are so straight and consistent. Length is better, too.
Shows up standard club fittings when you’re looking at additional club lofts, massive range of shafts available with puring already done and a club specialist who knows his stuff. Defo going to look at these for my next club fitting 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I'm an old fart, 65yrs old. No way I can go backwards to steel shafts. Those are for the strong and young. When I made the change at 50, it was a vast, immediate improvement. I'm a 16 handicap. (after an accident and recovery, etc.) I am trying to shave that down some for sure. I use senior shafts as well. Good control, more distance, better ball height, winner-winner chicken dinner.
I do love agnostic fitters. I ended up in a club and shaft combination that I had never even considered. I went back 3 times over the space of 2 weeks to hit the same combination and see if the good feelings stayed. After 2 weeks, and getting to know all the club fitters by name, I purchased the new clubs. I have not been disappointed.
humm got fitted at PXG last month - nice experience - irons driver wedges - went back as irons (Gen6) were awful - kept Black Ops driver and wedges - had the irons 4 weeks went back to my Miuras and sold the Gen6 to Replay Golf - they were awful! so advice is ALWAYS go to an independent agnotsic fitter NOT a manufacturer as it is without doubt biased!
I almost went to PXG for a fitting but a friend told me that they didn't do a great job going through all of their shaft options. They quickly zero in on one based on swing speed and didn't deviate. In my own experience my swing speed says regular but in play a soft tipped stiff actually performs great for me. I also don't particularly like the look of their clubs either. I know that shouldn't be a factor but I think subconsciously it does.
Yes. Agreed! I had a similar experience with PING. I love Ping and I’m a “Ping guy”. After a fitting at the Canadian Proving Grounds I Re-Did the full bag over the course of a few years (when the money tree sprouted a few leaves 😉). All based on my specs. But a friend just reshafted his irons and driver recently. I tried them and was very impressed. I’m looking for a 5-wood to replace my 3-wood and have been more open minded. Wow. The weight or the pop and feel of each brand has been quite interesting!! Still love Ping. But I will always be more open minded now. 👍
Was fit for new irons last Saturday (happy bday to me), overwhelmingly the shaft fitting was the most important part of the process. Tried, and liked, a couple of graphite options but I am in the camp that is not looking for distance and I did note a lack of feedback on strikes - too much to ignore. Ultimately, the finished product was Mizuno Pro 245s (dear god, so nice) onto Modus3 Tour 120g X steel shafts, but there's every possibility that graphite could be the next set. Agree with your fitter here, graphite is definitely under utilized in the amateur space.
Really good video James, liked this one a lot. Think he was trying to promote an expensive shaft option in the video. My humble opinion. You tried the Japanese Oban v nice shaft but there are more cheaper just as good Japanese shafts out there. I really like the bending machine on site, pity he didn’t show loft /lie on camera. Good idea to have bending machine there.👍 to that.
SGGT I think are unique in being able to fit across the range when looking at a set of irons. Plus can hit out onto a range and see the true flight of the ball
Nice vlog 👍 thank you. Splendid to see the LA shafts from your cameo for Gary Martin, trying his dream Miura irons a fortnight ago. A regular follow-up 'Short' on how they're working-out for you (and, sans SSGT hosel device) would be nice, too.
Super interesting. Maybe an opportunity for you to review shafts as well? Looks like we all need some education and opens up a tonne of content options both studio and course. Great video mate
The issue is that you are them comparing two different clubs, shafts etc. how about mid handicapper going to two different fitters looking at the same clubs. Eg Mizuno hot pro 925 where there are 3 head options. Would be interesting to see shaft and head recommendations are made
Would try and sell , the one with the most commission for themselves, we all know fellow golfers who have been fitted and sold an expensive set, with absolutely no improvement to their game.
I did this while being fitted for my new irons 2 months ago. I chose 2 highly rated fitters and did not influence the second one by telling them I had been fitted in the past week. In both cases I ended up with a recommendation of Ping i530 with graphite shafts after trying 6 irons in total.
After playing cavity backs for years I picked up a new full set 3 - PW of Wilson Staff blades at a sale price. Standard loft, lie and shaft length, stiff steel shafts. Wondered if I’d be able to hit them at all as I’m an old geezer. I’d been struggling with the cavity backs and couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong by the feel. Struggled with the blades for a while but the feedback is great and I’m now hitting them really well, in fact hitting them further and more accurately than the cavity backs. Taking into consideration that the blades are about 3 degrees weaker loft than the cavity backs tells me I’m striking the ball better than I’ve done in years. A lot to be said for feedback and blades give you that in spades. They make you work on the strike. I can even launch the 3 iron.
I'm a massive Wilson Staff fan. I'm playing the Staff CB's and find them to have the same feel, carry and accuracy of the Staff blades, with just a touch more forgiveness. Performance was dead even for me with both, so I opted for a little extra help. I find the Staff CB's to be very different than the average CB irons. Far more blade-like. Agree with everything you said, though. Instead of treating the symptom, treat the problem and become a better ball-striker!
@@miken2686 Glad you’re enjoying the CBs. I think Wilson are so underrated. They used to be the foremost club manufacturer in the world and still build clubs of a quality that is second to none in the Staff irons at least. For some reason they just fell out of fashion. My last set of cavity backs were Mizuno JPX 921s with Ricochet graphite regular shafts. I was fitted for them and they are excellent clubs but I just started to lose the strike with them and due to the forgiving nature couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. The Wilson blades do let you know when you get it wrong and force you to fix the problem. Having said that I found them much more forgiving than I thought they would be though you do lose a lot of distance from miss hits. When you hit them properly out the middle, Ahhh Heaven!
Has anyone ever done a test where you are fitted with an the bolt on iron head and shaft with the the adapter, then got the club built to that spec and then try them side by side to see if you get the same performance? I'm curious to see if the bolt on stuff makes a difference?
Bolt on makes a weight difference. They say it doesn’t. Mentally in a fitting it might not. I bought some after a fitting and immediately returned. The weight changed.
I thought that was as a quality of a fitting as I’ve seen on You Tube; better than most and equal to anything I’ve seen, even from Ian and Mikey on the Club Champions channel. While you are well above an average golfer in all aspects of the game, that is the kind of fitting as an average golfer I would love to experience. Unfortunately in my part of the U.S. I have yet to find anything close to it. Well done James.
I have been buying standard clubs off the rack. I’ve been playing for about 18 years now, am 71. I use 3 Hywood off the tee, Cleveland 2,4,5 hybrids, 6-GW PXG 0211 XCOR2 Cleveland 56 & 60
This is the first time hearing a fitting shop able to blend the shaft to irons. My fitting shop only fits with a six iron unable to fit long iron heads
I got fit for MMT graphite this summer with Mizuno. Had the same wow moment when the ball instantly went higher farther straighter. Put it in the wedges too
Your fitting went exactly as mine did last weekend. Have played titleist irons for 10+ years went in thinking "i could use a switch up" ended up with T150 being the best performing/feel/look for me😂
That was something, thanks James. I would like to know how much all that will cost? in depth fitting I mean. I have fitted irons, but I have always done the Mizuno Swing DNA first and then tried all top three choices. For me the number one has always been a Nippon Modus but I'm interested in those graphite shafts...
Really enjoyed this. Query I have though is just how much difference in cost there can be between shafts. We all know golf is ridiculously pricey now for clubs. I need all new irons as currently have none but don’t where to start. Ive had one fitting from American golf and after watching other fittings realised I got next to no information around what’s best for me. They just let me pick an iron I wanted
As I understood it, the 100-S had extra weight in the toe which mitigates an over draw. It might have had a slightly longer blade, but I might misremember that.
Why are there no links to this fitting centre in your video description? They were gracious enough to invite you and yet there is no information for people to find out more.....
I wanted a 911 for 50 years. After a reprieve from the Grim Reaper I decided a 992 would do nicely. It’s been great fun touring Scotland with it. Hopefully see you at Delamere one day as my guests.
If I wasn’t a staff player I’d be looking srixon zx7/5 ,titleist t150, or pxg 0317 milled. Honorable mention to ping blueprint s. That’s the best ping iron yet.
The gaps in your shaft and iron knowledge are staggering , what's that , EPON ... never heard of that ... WOW. SSGT are very good at what they do and you are hitting a premium ball PROV1s. When they do wedge fittings they'll do them from grass. Interested why fitter never tried you in the PROTO CONCEPT
By beginning with the shaft you game now, that begins with a bias, you should begin from ground zero, sorry but that's not how it should begin, you walk in as a blank canvas, this cut the corner from the off James. Still a good fitting, though. SGGT take some beating, especially with their pure'd shafts.
What was the quoted price for that iron set build? My guess would be £2500 by the time the upcharge of the LA golf shafts pured and grip of choice were taken into consideration.
Any advice on those of us who don't have access to a proper fitting facility? Those of us that are considering DTC brands or building a set of DTC heads?
TBH i have seen a few videos with these guys and think it's a great idea. I am currently trying to work out which would be the best wedge shaft for me and the only way is buying lots of second hand and trial and error. My only challenge is that i play 15-20 times a year so i don't really want to spend £500+ for shafts to have my irons reshafted. I think a lot of custom fits are poor, better than noting but still lazy. I am not a tour pro but i do want to feel that i have the best club for me.... but at the same time those LA golf shafts are £100 a pop....
Most unbiased? I guess as long as you're only considering mostly the major OEM's. I have a self-admitted bias, but not testing the Wilson Staff irons in both the blade and CB's is a massive oversight. I've played Mizuno, Callaway, PXG, Srixon & Titleist irons over the years, and all are good, but my Wilson CB's are the best feeling & performing irons I've ever had. It's a shame they don't make it into these "completely unbiased" club fittings. I realize you can't test them all.....
Hi James I’ve watched several fitting videos with SGGT not once has anyone mentioned the cost I know it’s subject to materials ie iron / graphite shafts but it would be nice know if you have a certain budget in mind whether it would be worth booking a fitting or not 👍🏴
I recently got new blades (mizuno pro 241, stiff modus 3 115) my hcp is 29 started with them at the end of summer with hcp 31 (I play in Europe where we start at hcp 54, so i am kinda mid handicaper) I switched from titleist 714 ap2 on regular project x (originally some light dynamic gold regular flex, but reshafted after some time) (i am 16 years old and i play golf just like a hobby so i don’t have any ambitions with my results)
So, James ... I ended up going for an iron fitting at Club Champion in Crawley earlier this year ... got fitted for the T150's with LA Golf L-120 graphite shafts ... absolute game-changer! In short, apart from the obvious cost impact, I don't see how more golfers aren't fitted into graphite shafts, as the results are truly astonishing (49 year old, 105 mph swing speed with driver, play off 3 handicap) ... increased length with every iron throughout the bag, increased spin (!) and descent angle ... but, yes, it has cost some money. That being said, I would hope that you go back to SGGT and now take a look at wedge options with graphite shafts ... in particular the i-Wedge shaft by Accra (which I could see on the rack there at SGGT). Because, I was so impressed with the iron fitting at CC, that I went back there for a wedge fitting 3 months later ... due to a "flippy release" with my wedge shots at 50-75% swing speed (90 yards and in). The results of using those shafts with the scoring wedges (58 deg and bent 54 deg to 53 deg - Cleveland RTX Zipcores) were mind-blowing ... where you can "feel the head more" at every stage of the back-swing and transition into the down-swing. Apologies for the long-winded comment, James ... but keep up the great work on the channel (long time lurker, finally a subscriber). P.S. Forgot to say that the graphite shafts have completely eradicated my Golfers' Elbow ... which was acute after practicing on driving range mats for years.
This is the second time I've seen this place in a UA-cam video. Does anyplace like this exist in America? I've always wanted to go through a fitting but to actually get fit for the right head and shaft would be amazing.
I’m so ready for a new set of irons and driver GT3 and Lab Putter ohhh and why not some wedges . T100 for sure for me I hit my buddy’s and easy transition from my AP2 718. But yeah I big time need update
Everyone thinks they have a 120mph swing speed and think they need an XStiff shaft. They don't. I've watched many "scratch" golfers do a true fitting and realize they're in way too stiff of a shaft.
Just to say congrats on the Aston. Sorry to see the Lusso go. I guess that carried clubs well. On my list. We could get two carry bags in my 992 but it was tight. Enjoy.
Thanks David! Yeah I had a 992 and probably should have kept it longer tbh. I’m dailying an E-Tron GT RS which is literally perfect so the AMR is a great weekend thrasher
The most complete fitting I’ve seen online, thanks James!

Me too. Super quality and stable. All 14 clubs.

FAMOUS AND I DONT EVEN GET PAID ..HOW HUMBLE IS THAT ❤️🔥
Any advice on those of us who don't have access to a proper fitting facility? Those of us that are considering DTC brands or building a set of DTC heads?
You sid quite a bit and espoused your favorites a lot. Still enjoyed the Vlog and your content. Are you playing your new club selections?
TBH i have seen a few videos with these guys and think it's a great idea. I am currently trying to work out which would be the best wedge shaft for me and the only way is buying lots of second hand and trial and error. My only challenge is that i play 15-20 times a year so i don't really want to spend £500+ for shafts to have my irons reshafted. I think a lot of custom fits are poor, better than noting but still lazy. I am not a tour pro but i do want to feel that i have the best club for me.... but at the same time those LA golf shafts are £100 a pop....
I got fit for Oban 115 in my Blueprint S, and totally love them.
Thatl be £4500 please 😂😂😂
What do you mean that the shafts are pure? Great video
Oban and LA golf shafts lol, great shafts, terrible prices
What a great fitting 👍👍👍👍
So James great video, did he give you an approximate cost of the set if you’d actually bought them. Just wondering the cost of the shafts ?
The issue I take with these fittings is that the swing weight is thrown off by the jigs they have on the shafts and club heads.
The clubs are all waited to me standard
Maybe weighted?😂
@@kev12558 please elaborate
This is the second time I've seen this place in a UA-cam video. Does anyplace like this exist in America? I've always wanted to go through a fitting but to actually get fit for the right head and shaft would be amazing.
Why am I only able to watch your slight movement in the lead foot moments before you impact the ball
I’m so ready for a new set of irons and driver GT3 and Lab Putter ohhh and why not some wedges .
T100 for sure for me I hit my buddy’s and easy transition from my AP2 718.
But yeah I big time need update
Don't be surprised if you end up with the GT2 as I did swing speed at 109 , just a better head wit x flex
You seem to be lifting your irons slightly on takeaway, as opposed to keeping them lower on the immediate takeaway.
I feel like I’m trying to keep it low David lol. Work in progress. Probably why I’m so steep and across it
Everyone thinks they have a 120mph swing speed and think they need an XStiff shaft. They don't. I've watched many "scratch" golfers do a true fitting and realize they're in way too stiff of a shaft.
Loved this video.
So glad that you didn’t say anything and only went with the numbers…😂
Just to say congrats on the Aston. Sorry to see the Lusso go. I guess that carried clubs well. On my list. We could get two carry bags in my 992 but it was tight. Enjoy.
Thanks David! Yeah I had a 992 and probably should have kept it longer tbh. I’m dailying an E-Tron GT RS which is literally perfect so the AMR is a great weekend thrasher
Drawback being graphite shafts are mega expensive when the heads are already stupidly expensive, so for the average golfer, forget it.
is the half mustache a new uk trend?
So did you get the irons and the shafts?
So did you pick up a set of clubs? Or was it just a why you should? 😊
Can someone get Chris a chair? 😃
