Great to see you!❤ I love Steely Dan and I have always thought of them as AOR vs singles. So it was fun to hear which songs were singles, background and your personal opinion. I agree that they sound like no other. Although, I believe a few groups out there have tried. Ah inspiration!
You and I are the same age and had the same experiences listening to music growing up. How lucky are we to have grown up in that time? I was born in 70
Aww yeahhh! I used to think Steely Dan were lame, but now I love them! I know they’re probably Joe Steigerwald’s (from TLM) favorite band right now! Here’s my list: 1. Rikki Don’t Lose That Number 2. Peg 3. Black Friday 4. Josie 5. Do it Again 6. Deacon Blues 7. FM (No Static at All) 8. Reelin’ in the Years 9. Pretzel Logic 10. Josie 11. Bad Sneakers 12. Hey Nineteen 13. Dirty Work 14. Time Out of Mind 15. Kid Charlemagne 16. Babylon Sisters 17. My Old School 18. Dallas 19. Haitian Divorce 20. The Fez
Show Biz Kids number 16?!#! One of the most iconic and enduring slaps at Hollywood ever. I didn't even know it was a single but it is a fantastic track.
I did a deep dive into Steely Dan and a full album review. That was all of June 2023. I love Steely Dan now at the age of 50. So I'm here for it! Thank you for abstaining from the 2000s efforts. Ok please read my reviews as if I'm one of those crazy 'Sign O The Times' fan that has that album as Prince's greatest. The Fez at 20? Paul starting off badly. Are there any bad Steely Dan singles? Not really. So I'm just having a go. There are no wrong answers. Except saying Haitian Divorce was a bad choice for a single?!?!? WTF? Fav song of that album. Racist? Lol I'm joking. Can you explain a bit why it's a bad single? There are some real shit tracks that make it to the top 10 Billboard, that's why I'm asking. Babylon Sisters is so effin great. Purdie Shuffle. Gaucho is a bit sterile tough. Everyone's Gone To The Movies is a classic. I'm joking about anything critical with regards to your choices. We like what we like. Plus you all (The Trio) give the best explanations as to how you came to your conclusions so there's a real understanding. I enjoy hanging out talking about good music. (you just happened to do all the talking this time)
Well, as I said in the video, I think Haitian Divorce is a great song and a great album track, it just doesn't sound like a single to me. I can't imagine it popping out of the radio in between Dancing Queen and Don't Go Breakin' My Heart. Or at least not in the right way. Do It Again stuck out from the rest of the radio fare of the time (or any time!) but that's also such a strong catchy song that has the ability to connect with the masses. Haitian Divorce is niche.
@@curly_wyn It's not bad, but to call it the best is over the top. I'm not sure with fans of this album what they're like because you guys are a special breed.

Very lucky! The 70s were an amazing time to be a kid.
Babylon Sisters opens with one of the most iconic intros on a Rhodes electric piano ever. Legendary!
Bad Sneakers!!! This is an inspired placement at number 4! Unbelievably great song and very overlooked.
Love your top three. Good job buddy.
“If you don’t like it, make your own video!” Challenge accepted! (And here I was, wondering what to do in my video this week…..)
Deacon Blues is a lyrical masterpiece.
Always loved this group I'm older than you remember 16 magazine used to ride my bike to get that every month cause the monkees were on them
If you don't like Peg, you haven't heard it on a good sound system.

Can't argue with that top 3. My top 3 would be the same. I was surprised how many of these songs I didn't even know were singles.
Are you gathering up the cheese, Have you had enough of mine ;)

@@AsItShouldBePodcast I like that response and I'm going with it!
Sign O the Times IS Prince’s best album! I know Jason from TLM hates it, but he’s wrong!

So much goodnesss🎉
Black cow is my favourite non single.
Solid listing. I would have put "My Old School" higher and "Josie" lower.
Ha! No doubt you would’ve! I’m guessing all Aja and later would be at the bottom
