Jay Dee Maness is such a fine steel guitarist...perhaps less known and appreciated in Nashville than some other Greats, on account of his extensive California work.

I was lucky enough to see Lloyd Green play in London in the late 1970's ... Lloyd playing was perfection ... even took the time to have his photo taken ... great evening for sure.

I been in that wonderful little venue several times, but I feel so jealous I wasn't there on that Sunday afternoon... Warm salute from France, across the pond, to you all at the S.I. ! Your place is so nice: whereelse in the world, can we hear so many fine musicians, close to the stage, sharing a pizza cut direct on the table, with unknown ppl from anywhere...

Very interesting to see these two that were key elements in the hugely important landmark album Sweetheart of the Rodeo, one of the greatest country music albums ever made. A record that changed my whole thinking about country music.

A fantastic cd, Sweetheart of The Rodeo, that John Macy put together. John is also a great steel player. Saw Lloyd Green and Jay Dee Maness at Dallas Steel Guitar Show. Needless to say, over the top talents with a tremendous history in country music sound. Russ Paul who also at Dallas Steel Show and Eugene Moles originally from Bakersfield and so on...

Typical of many "Steel Guitar Shows"; where they have; either sound problems or video problems; or both problems. Example: for many years, I and several friends, did the video at Scotties (at his bequest) "International Steel Guitar Convention"; in St Louis; every "Labor Day" weekend.
And would you believe; that the video tapes were the cheapest, used to record the show. Worse, they used video recorders that ONLY had 240p fidelity. Yet I offered to, at my own cost; to use my brand new 480p SVHS recorders (the highest quality then); using "SVHS" video tapes. Sad indeed. They didn't care; so they didn't do it. Sad, but true. It broke my heart.
I have never told any one about this before now (except for one friend). So I turn 90 yrs old, April 5th, and I frankly don't give a rat's derriere; if they don't like what I am saying. For it is true and it was a terrible thing; considering that the SG players; were the greatest in the world. AND the recording's quality was way down; from what they should've have been. AND...could have been. I offered more than once. They said no.
Finally: Scotty would not pay for "Stage Lights". So all the videos (100's of them) are "grainy". Sad, but true. But I have a myriad of recordings using 480P tapes; that I recorded (ONLY for myself). But I do not care to watch them atoll; because of the grainy videos and poor "Amateur mixed" sounds.
For there is NO way; to properly mix sound; IF the mixer is IN the auditorium when the Players are playing their instruments live. NO way! Dadgum it! I could eat nails👿every time I think about it!
End of Story...and I rest my case. Sorry for the long "Comment". But I do believe it needs to be told; even if is 25 yrs later. Finis!

Jay Dee’s steel sounds a little out of tune on his 7 or 8 string.
    Still a MONSTER PLAYER!
