Lloyd Green is a jewel in our community. So much of the history will lost if we don't hear it from the masters themselves. What a great innovator and craftsman he is. Emotion is his middle name. If you play or enjoy pedal steel guitar, this could be your goal. Way to go Lloyd! and Thank you!
Always enjoy listening to Lloyd Green play and recount his experiences in Nashville. This is one down-to-earth, classy and honest guy! He is an incredible credit to the steel guitar.
Was practicing years ago in my dad's living room with an old Lloyd green album. My dad walked in and stopped to listen for a moment. He said if you ever get as good as that man you will really be somebody. I was hurt that he didn't tell me how well I was coming along. After all these years, as I've matured in my tallent, I realize what he was saying, and what he meant.

If anyone has watched the interview series with Paul Franklin it is incredible when Lloyd gives an insight to his playing techniques with the basic 3 pedals and 4 knee levers. He doesn't even lower the 4th string like everyone else does, instead he uses string 2. In interview No3 he and Paul discuss the modern computer recording machines that can level up pitch so "mediocre " players can sound good........needless to say neither of them like this idea that musicians can be sloppy and the engineers can "fix" it in software. Lloyd probably has the best technique of any steel player, he doesn't rely on just adding pedals and knee levers to get something different.
When I started out on steel in 1973, I listened to Lloyd most of all. Absolutely the cleanest picker in my book. Like eating cookies in Granny's kitchen.
Lloyd is in a class all by himself way up and out of reach of all other players. His playing has incredible amounts of soul and heart felt feeling conveyed to the listener. A musicians musician in the highest degree.
Thank you SO very much for posting this priceless video. Lloyd is my absolute favorite steel player. I remember hearing Lloyd on my mom's favorite 'Charlie Pride' album "Live at Panther Hall" when I was 10 years old back in the late 60's. I played that album over and over and Lloyd's steel is implanted in my brain to this day. It makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck listening to this. Just beautiful! And the stories/history Lloyd shares is also priceless!
So many artistes don't talk much to the audience and they all have so many great stories, it is just as interesting listening to Lloyd talk about about his stories and a bit of history too , brilliant !
old timers would talk to their audience. Youngins have lost the classical art of socializing. Lloyd is one of the old timers cut from a cloth they don't make no more.
@@mrgentry66 By gosh what an awfully foolish comment - you can't be a youngin and have the stories and history that come with being an old timer... Seems obvious... Take yr head out yr keester sometime, the air is fresher....
When Lloyd plays, one never has to ask who it is , unmistakable sound and style. I personally think you can say the same about Pete Drake too, unmistakable sound and style.
These kind of performances need to be archived, maybe at the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame. If they are not treated as important, they will fade away to nothing.
The enormity of his ability can only be appreciated or better said be appreciated to a greater extent if you have tried to play this instrument. It becomes obvious that years of playing are needed to get the feel and the sound, the voicing if you will, the smoothness of the delivery of the notes. You can't do this in a couple years of playing. I had the pleasure of spending a day with Llyod when he played on my cd Vagabond Dreamer. What an experience, the knowledge, the ability, and the humbleness of the man, is incredible. You would never think you where in the presence of such greatness when he is with you. I now realize even more what a break it was to meet him and then have him agree to play for me on the cd. Much appreciated Lloyd, and, keep getting many more blackjacks :)
Lloyd, please write a book. Steve Fishell's book is great, but it only focuses on Buddy. You have so much to say you could write THE book on pedal steel history.
Listen to Lloyd on just about all of Faron Youngs albums ,to be able to create so many styles and sound different on each one is a talent that not many players have that ability. Sure Pete drake had a style,as does Paul Franklin, but Lloyd is still number one.
I wonder what would have happened ( 12:06 ) if Lloyd had played on Lynn Andersons Rose Garden instead of Pete Drake and Pete Drake had played on Tammy's DIVORCE instead of Lloyd ? Personally I think it was fate and the right steel player got the right session on both of those songs .
The definitive version everybody bases their versions off of is the Lloyd part on Gene Watson’s version from (I believe) 1979. Paul has cut it with Alan Jackson more recently. The song had been cut twice before the Gene Watson cut though, Jimmy Dickens in the early sixties with Buddy Emmons on steel and also by Johnny Bush featuring Jimmy Day in the same era (I believe the Dickens cut was first). But neither of those were hits, Gene Watson’s version with Lloyd is viewed the “definitive” version. And if you don’t believe me, ask Paul Franklin who says “If you play Farewell Party and don’t play it like close to how Lloyd did it, you’re doing it wrong.” 😎
Beautiful playing and great stories. Thank you Lloyd!
Wonderful historical moment in music. Thank you Lloyd.
Lloyd is a national treasure. He has been my steel guitar hero for the 41 years that I’ve playing.
SAME!!!

MR LLOYD IS ONE OF THE GREATS HE KNOWS HOW TO GET TO THE SOUL VVAN FROM ILLINOIS .
Lloyd is brilliant, and he remembers the history which is just as interesting.
Always enjoy listening to Lloyd Green play and recount his experiences in Nashville. This is one down-to-earth, classy and honest guy! He is an incredible credit to the steel guitar.
One of the best country music videos! His stories are so great to hear, and I am glad he is sharing all this history.
The live Charlie Pride album is legendary and deserves to be, but my favorite LG is the Li’l Darlin’ records with Johnny Paycheck. Fearless playing.

The incredible and innovative Lloyd is a treasure trove of history and talent combined. My favorite player.

I'm a novice, but it seems to me that what you're saying is that if you want to see what "someone is made of," then listen to them live.
What can I Say; There is only noe Lloyd Green..Wish I could be there and SEE him live. Tanks for sharing👍
When I started out on steel in 1973, I listened to Lloyd most of all. Absolutely the cleanest picker in my book. Like eating cookies in Granny's kitchen.
He the best❤
Lloyd is in a class all by himself way up and out of reach of all other players. His playing has incredible amounts of soul and heart felt feeling conveyed to the listener. A musicians musician in the highest degree.
AMEN!!!
U nailed it completely as usual
Very soulful.
His sense of melody and harmony is just the best in my book. When he did a track for Paul McCartney fifty or so years ago, he really got my attention.
the true master in every way and so humble with it too.
beautiful
Still making the ole SHO-BUD sing....nice thanks Lloyd, I have some of your sixties albums...perfect
Lloyd is a national treasure and a class act. I love his playing on the Byrd’s Sweetheart of the Rodeo.
I was lucky enough to see Lloyd Green in London back in the eighty's ... Lloyd also posed for photo's ... great steel player ... real nice man.

@@mrgentry66 Very true.
I love to listen to Lloyd talk. He could read the phonebook and I would listen. So well spoken. So intelligent. Just an all-around classy dude.

This is an amazing set! Lloyd is the man.
pro trick: you can watch series at flixzone. Been using it for watching a lot of movies recently.
I really enjoyed this! Thanks !

Wow thank you so much for being there and shooting a great video Lloyd is great .

Thanks for filming this
Thank you very much for the upload. Lloyd is about the best we’ve got. Sure is nice to see him in this setting.
SO good.. Lloyd is the man.. i've got a bunch of lesson videos on some of his playing on my page. He's great to study!
The second song they played - the instrumental, was incredible.
Pedal Steel Genius!
I watched this for nearly 20 minutes before realizing you posted this Jules. This is great man 🙏🙏

Wow, an extraordinary video! Please don't ever take it down and thank you so very much for posting this!

The second tune is out of this world.
I heartily agree.
Thanks for the great post. Hope it's not taken down.
It would be a great pity if it were taken down, when Lloyd is no longer playing this will be priceless.
Venus Moon...Amazing!
So smooth. I would love to have a fourth of his talent.
Or a quarter even! LOL
One of the greatest.
Lloyd is THE finest !
You leave it up. Anytime I can hear STEEEEEL is a treat then add LG to it and WOW
Lloyd Green The Master!
Divorce was awesome Lloyd!! Well done my friend.
Awesome :-)
The BEST.
Wow!!!👍🙏
I remember version Remember when Alan jackson .lloyd steel guitar oh my God
If you listen to Charley Pride's The Day the World Stood Still you will hear that very similar steel sound that you heard on D I V O R C E
I remember hearing Lloyd's work on some of Charley Pride songs. Lloyd is about the only other legend I know of besides Paul Franklin left
Lloyd green, do you have a tab with the turnaround to remember when, if so, tell me where to purchase it.
Lloyd, please write a book. Steve Fishell's book is great, but it only focuses on Buddy. You have so much to say you could write THE book on pedal steel history.

Did he say Lloyd we need to get home?!? I could barely hear him
Never take this down
Ive heard it both ways, who originally done the intro to farewell party ?
Was it Lloyd or was it Paul ?
Lloyd
On the Gene Watson version it was Lloyd Green. On Alan Jackson’s version it was Paul Franklin, and I think it was Paul on Joe Nichols cut.
The definitive version everybody bases their versions off of is the Lloyd part on Gene Watson’s version from (I believe) 1979. Paul has cut it with Alan Jackson more recently. And if you don’t believe me, ask Paul Franklin who says “If you play Farewell Party and don’t play it like close to how Lloyd did it, you’re doing it wrong.” 😎
And Lloyd Green said in one of the Paul Franklin videos that they cut that in the last ten minutes of a session, one take.
Too bad the camera angle stinks because I do believe we where hearing a "Pedal-Bro" another invention of Lloyd Green.
48:06 - I was robbed! MY Sho-Bud NEVER had those notes on it - honest!!!
Even the best get nervous - notice how he keeps checking the cable from the guitar? :-)
Not very good tone. Dave Hartley or Frank Carter could teach this old dude some new tricks.
