I have heard Billy Strings play with many guitarists but I don't think I've heard a better duo than this pairing with Bryan Sutton. The two of them together have a purity in their music that transcends each individual guitar.

If you don't play guitar, you'll never really understand just how talented these two men really are. With little or no prep they just started picking and melded together seamlessly. Sometimes. I'll swear the very best can practically read each other's minds when they play together. Only bad thing about watching these two is that I have an urge to burn my guitars, but I seem to get over it and try and get a little better everyday!

Back in the late '90's we attended the annual Bill Monroe Celebration at the Ryman. The Del McCoury band couldn't make it last minute, so they had some local players fill in. Just happened to be: Bela Fleck; Sam Bush; Stuart Duncan; Jerry Douglas; and a fresh-faced young guy, Bryan Sutton. Thought we'd hit pay dirt. Didn't take long to know who Bryan Sutton was. Have appreciated that Bryan has been playing with many of the younger pickers over the past years. Class act. Even trying to give Billy a leg up :)

Dude. It’s crazy how parallel to me this is. Couldn’t agree more. I was really starting to feel so stale in the same ol electric guitar licks in my SG. Zeppelin, sabbath, tool, you know, stuff like that. And obviously, never anything against that stuff. It’s my favorite music basically. But then bluegrass just grabbed me at the perfect time. I was so bored with guitar at the time. And same as you, I haven’t been plucking anything but my acoustic for a long ass time, when before hand I would barely pick that thing up. I play so much now. Every day I have the strongest itch to sit down and ‘try that bluegrass run again to see if I can get it a little faster now’. And holy shit has it opened a whole other dimension to my electric guitar playing. Just a joy to have really discovered in depth. Literally changed my life as you said too.

I'd LOVE to buy a ticket for the Portland show, but I'm a little nervous about crowds, right now.... being in that vulnerable age group. :) Isn't it wonderful the age range - the generations of peeps that love you and your music! You single-handedly rekindled my affection for Bluegrass... ish. :) Talent is one thing. Being a really good human is another. Put the 2 together & you have something special.
