Very nice work Brian. My dad was a Police Officer in Cincinnati back in the 60's - he still has his baton. Great work!
Can't wait to get my hands on this baton. Great work as always, your very talented and I Proud that your my brother. Thanks for the shoutout to a good cause, Law Enforcement United.
He's very talented. Stay safe and God bless you 🙏
Great work! I would love to get my hands on a nice baton like that to display in my home. I am a police officer and carry a expandable baton, but the old school wooden baton is a nice display piece!
Where can I buy a police baton
HI Joel do you think a cocobolo baton wood be a good alternative to a firearm?
A very good way to beat some sense into criminals.
Great gift idea for a cop. Nice work!
Thank you.
Nice work Brian! Glad to see you working with the skew! Many people are scared of it!
Thanks. I watched a few videos that focused on skew work and practiced. An incredibly useful tool.
I am a deputy sheriff and I carry a 38" straight stick. The shop I bought it from said the wood it was made from is diamond wood. It looks like sapele or bubinga. Quite dense. Heavy got its size and extremely hard. Almost like Mexican iron wood but not as brown. More reddish.
A lot of sticks were locust.
Your an artist.
Also, nice touch at the end given recent events of cops being hunted down for no reason.
i agree my man.

Agreed. One of those was about nine blocks from my house. You think you're living in a quiet, friendly neighborhood and things like that happen. The world is a crazy place sometimes.
ah shit, here we go again
These comments aged well
Back The Blue!
Great lathe work and camera close-ups Brian! You're good with that skew.
Thanks Steve!
Well done video and project, Brian.
Nice, I was stationed in Japan and worked with the Japanese Security Guard (JSG) and they carried this type of baton. I may have to make one of these just for fun. Thanks for sharing the video!
Beautiful work. You make it look easy.
Thank you.
thank you Brian . Looks good too. heads up when i worked as a corrections office at the county jail ( sheriffs dept) we called those pr- 24 ( 24 ) means crazy person
Excellent craftsman skills. You should make him a riot baton, they are 36" long.
Not many departments allow caring of non brand police batons.
Fantastic video 👌. Merry Christmas too you and God bless 🎄⛄❄️
Are you still making these?
No. This was a one off.
GarageWoodworks would you mind making one more?
cool
Thank you!
Can I purchase one?
That' drum sander is so nice
Grizzly! It's a nice addition to my shop for sure.
that lathe work is supurb!
Thank you! Slowly but surely. ;)
Nice contribution to your brother. As a fireman I can appreciate it. We have similar group around called "Fallen Hero's". Located in northern Kentucky and southeast Indiana. Thanks for sharing.
Nice.
Thanks Adam!
Nice! Though I wonder if your brother can carry on the job?...or like everything else is regulated to certain specs? Enjoyed the process and your show!
Seen ya on the news you looked familiar i remember a guy carving wood in his garage with steep drive way when i was doing cable i wanted to pick his brain but he was focused on his work. Check out building a civil war camp chair just an idea for future build. Nice channel had to sub
My only gripe is the whole project could’ve been done with the skew even to part it off there’s dude named bill grumbine that has a series of skew tutorials on dvd also an Aussie named Richard raffend I think
Cool. Did you find yourself a criminal to test it out on yet? :)
Thank you!
Nice work on the baton. I'm sure your brother will appreciate it very much.
What are the odds of a nightstick like this splitting or coming apart on impact? It's not a solid piece of wood.
A long grain to long grain glue joint (as is the case for the baton) is incredible strong. If the baton were to split on impact, the chances of it splitting along the glue line are so low that they are essentially zero. You'd have a better chance of being struck by lightning from inside your home during a thunderstorm.
Thank you for the supportive video. I'm so saddened seeing my fellow officers hunted down and murdered for no reason. Our society has changed forever. Its people like you and the support we feel from our community that keeps us all going. The support and appreciation is met with humbleness and gratitude. Great video! Thank you!
+peter griffen Agreed; it is sickening. Stay safe and know you're sincerely appreciated.
In spite of living in another country, know you of my appreciation and thanks :) As you say, our society changed forever!
how much does a piece of walnut like that cost for you
I'm not sure. All of the wood used for this project was scraps from past projects. Thanks for watching!
What did you finish it with? I am guessing BLO, Mineral Spirits, and maybe Wax? Just curious. Great build and support for our folks in Blue!!
BLO, polyurethane, mineral spirits (1:1:1). Thanks for checking it out!
Very well done and for a good cause Sir
What brand turning tools did you buy?
Those are a set by Robert Sorby that my wife bought me as a gift.
Very nice tools. And how are you keeping them sharp?
I don't have a great solution for that. I'm looking into water cooled slow speed grinders.

Very nice workmanship. I might have dyed the maple blue to represent the "Thin Blue Line" we associate with law enforcement these days.
I thought about doing that, but there is always a potential for the stain bleeding into the adjoining wood.
time to beat some rioters! :D
I bet that thing broke first time he used it on the job lol a legit baton should be one piece only. This thing would make a great display piece but glue is a terrible idea police batons end up in the rain all the time. This thing is pretty as hell but should just be a solid piece of hickory or a wood with similar properties
make a machette
Just buy a wooden rod..............
Brilliant!!
do you help the familys of the fallen people that the cops have murderd ?
I doubt you've done anything to help anyone; except yourself.
good job well done quest in your country there is no donation of batons for the Police ? nope well so you care about your bro that's nice but what will he do with it ? of course beat peolpe ( good or bad ones ??? ) you should leave your bro doing his duty as he could and advice make some bowls for rice shoutout for a good cause !?!?!? please !!! PEACE BRO
Well, that was a weird comment. :)
