Waller Mcdonald and Nature Strip came here to Ascot and lit up the first day with a bang. What terrific Ambassadors for Australian Racing. They left behind many fans.

Once again an Australian sprinter magically improves at Royal Ascot. Nature Strip reached a new peak IFHA rating at 126, exceeding anything he's done to this point, including his last epic win in the TJ. Ridiculousness

@@bgardiner3354 UK Racing Post gave him a rating of 128 for this race as well. He is a superior sprinter and the best of his type in the world. Johnny Murtagh, said that if you are, "boasting about being the best sprinter in the world that you have to do it at Royal Ascot"! I disagree. You prove it by coming to Australia and beating our fast horses in our big sprints which offer better competition than in either Britain or the US.. We, currently, have the stiffest competition for turf sprinters anywhere in the world. The King's Stand field was not strong. Why? The UK and USA horses are inferior or if there are some better horses out there, they were too frightened to take on Nature Strip in their own backyard. His record in Australia proves his accolade as a champion.

@@peterkemp1973 the superiority of Antipodean sprinters is not a new phenomenon. NS's win only reinforces what has been known for some time. Over 5-6F the best horses in the world in most years will be Australian. Agreed that Johnny Murtagh's comment misrepresents the status of our sprinters. Interesting fact... Miss Andretti received a 120 for her win in the King Stand Stakes... and she ran over a second quicker. Time is a poor measure for sure but it's still an indicator of inconsistency.

If that were true wouldn’t Artorius and Home Affairs run 1-2 in the Jubilee?
The depth of quality in Australia is far better but the problem is the best Australian sprinters always turn up at Ascot when there’s nothing to beat.
It’s sort of like if Frankel had gone out to Australia and beaten Pinker Pinker in the Cox Plate.
Not sure that if he did that it would have been proving he was the best horse in the world

Glad to see The English in here respect the performance and not bring up Frankel and what other horses would do to Nature Strip. Also remember that this horse travelled all that way as Chris said, a new environment, you don't know how they are going to handle it.
Look at Nature Strip, this horse is no slouch and hasn't just flogged donkey's back home in Aus. The world's best sprinter. Waller and J Mac are a lethal combination.

Realistically there would have been a dozen Australian sprinters since Black Caviar that, at their peaks, would have streeted that field. Nature Stripe (sic) aside there wouldn't have been a G2 5-6F race in Australia in the last 10 years as weak as that... Australian sprinting is just on another level. So all it proved was that Waller and Nature Strip were able to overcome the tyranny of distance and, reinforcing the elite standing of Australian short-course racing. I just can't believe he started in the black.

Nature Strip is a champion horse and deserves all the credit... And the trainer, Chris Waller, is all class: well spoken, clever, precise and respectful... From time to time, some australian owners or trainers (male and female), after winning importantant races overseas, behave in a horrible and offensive way, a little bit as Sir Les Patterson... Not Waller, who is a very dignified man...

You're comparing apples and oranges. Nature Strip is a sprinter. At this point, I think it's fair to say, he's the best sprinter in the world, though he's no Black Caviar. Golden Sixty has a comparable record, but he's a miler who can get 10F. He's been among the world's best milers now for a few years, though I don't think he's established himself as the best. That might have been Gran Alegria until her retirement, Now, it might be Baaeed.

    Good horse
    Good performance
But it was a nothing race.
The best sprinter in the world should beat these horses just like this
This win was like watching Nadal win a quarter final match against someone ranked outside the top 20.

    • @controlleddemolition9112
      @controlleddemolition9112 2 роки тому +1

LOL. I am a little surprised that you didn't mention that the loose horse almost beat him. I actually agree, however, that he caught a particularly soft field of sprinters in the King's Stand. Golden Pal is good, but he's never been good on the straight and he missed the break, so he might as well not have been in there. The rest were "undistiguished". Still, he did destroy that field (other than the loose horse). I'd say that next to Inspiral's run in the Coronation Stakes, it was the most impressive performance of the Royal Ascot meeting. It's pretty hard to beat even a so-so group of top sprinters by 4 lenghts, and he was probably taking the worst of it shipping and going 5F. He prefers 6F, but that did seem to be right up his street.

I think he’s a very very good horse and travelling is never easy,
But as you say the opposition was undistinguished- barely G2/G3 level in Australia.
So apart from the travel factor the win was hardly a great achievement
Winning the Jubilee the same way would have been more impressive but I guess they were expecting a challenge from Golden Pal to give the KS victory a bit more credibility
