@Spitsworth not really. Pakistan has been around since 1947 when the British Raj came to an end. The Cold War kind of started as soon as WW2 came to an end but in practice it wasn't really a thing until the Warsaw Pact in '55 and the construction of the Berlin Wall in '61.

I’ll say what I realized years ago.
Look at our strongest allies. None of them are in Europe. They’re all in a ring in the pacific around Asia. India, AUS, Korea, Japan. All of them powerhouses, each one with strong military and economic ties, and they can pull their own weight in a big fight.
Then you consider Canada, most of Europe, and Mexico are close allies. Their economies are tied with ours (a little less for Europe) and our economy depends on them in turn.
Ww3 would be two floundering superpowers (Russia economically and China culturally) versus the rest of the world supplying America and sending bodies.
We could honestly just get this whole thing over with and it seems all our maneuvering is to do so through politics and capital. It’s taking longer but the bloodshed has been minimal.
History tends to repeat itself, if you watched Blackadder explain WW1 he said it's just to much effort to not a war sometimes
