  • TOTNES | Exploring the beautiful town of Totnes Devon from the town centre to the castle! Is this the prettiest town in England? Totnes isn't your average Devon town. It's a visitor and tourist attraction filled place that blends medieval charm with a thriving modern art scene, and a labyrinth of quirky shops.
Nestled at the head of the River Dart, Totnes is a great Devon tourist destination that offers a unique blend of historical intrigue and scenic beauty, making it a delightful place to explore. Totnes Town Centre is a fantastic place to shop, eat and drink too.
Here are ten reasons why Totnes should be on your travel itinerary:
Immerse yourself in history at Totnes Castle: This imposing Norman castle is a history buff's dream. Explore the ramparts, wander the halls, and imagine life in medieval times. The panoramic views from the top of Totnes Castle are the icing on the cake.
Uncover the mysteries of Berry Pomeroy Castle: In stark contrast to the formidable Totnes Castle, Berry Pomeroy Castle is a hauntingly beautiful ruin. Explore its crumbling towers and atmospheric chambers, and let your imagination run wild with tales of knights and damsels.
Delve into Totnes' past at the Totnes Museum: This museum serves as a treasure trove of local history, taking you on a journey from Totnes' medieval origins through the centuries to its vibrant present-day arts scene.
Get your contemporary art fix at The TIMEHOUSE: Modern art enthusiasts won't want to miss The TIMEHOUSE. This renowned gallery showcases ever-changing exhibitions featuring works by exciting contemporary artists.
Meet some adorable farmyard friends at Totnes Rare Breeds Farm: This delightful farm is a haven for animal lovers of all ages. Get up close to fluffy pigs, cuddly sheep, and a variety of other rare breeds. It's a guaranteed dose of farmyard fun!
Take a tipple at Sandridge Barton (Sharpham Wine): Wine aficionados, rejoice! Sandridge Barton offers tours of their vineyards, where you can witness the magic of grape growing. Learn about the winemaking process and end your visit with a tasting of their award-winning wines.
Indulge your senses at Totnes Market: Immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of Totnes Market. Browse stalls brimming with fresh local produce, handcrafted souvenirs, and an array of tempting food stalls. It's a treat for all the senses.
Find serenity at St Mary's Church: Escape the hustle and bustle and find solace in the beautiful 15th-century St Mary's Church. Admire the intricate stained-glass windows and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.
Raise a glass at The Totnes Brewing Co.: Beer lovers, unite! The Totnes Brewing Co. invites you on a tour to witness the brewing process of their craft beers. Conclude your visit with a well-deserved sampling session - cheers!
Experience the art of cider making at Hunt's Cider: If you have a taste for something a little different, head to Hunt's Cider. This traditional producer will unveil the secrets behind their cider making and treat you to a taste of their refreshing concoctions.

I think all the old Churches should be kept open for people to escape the crazy world out there and enjoy being in a peaceful place for a while....I'm not a church goer but cant resist checking out these places...they always feel tranquil when they're empty 😊

The last few days I’ve been to the churches in the places I’ve filmed to relax in their churchyards!

Wonderful video Neil of Totnes and some great arty shots 🤣. Lots of superb architecture, including St Mary's. I love my church crawling and churches should modernize and be used for a lot of different things. Otherwise, they'll be closed for good 😟. It looks great. Lots of stuff going on. No sea ⛵ but 🤷. 👍💪 for climbing up to the castle 🏰. I was worried about the heavy breathing 🤔🤣🤣

Ahh, you missed the Guildhall by inches, you can see it through the trees in the churchyard. If you do go back, go on a Friday morning for the market. That’s the day I tend to go to Totnes. I live a few miles away. And, like you, I tend to park in Bridgetown and walk over the bridge. I haven’t been to Totnes Castle for decades. I had a temporary summer job many, many, many years ago as the custodian. In the past few months there has been a huge pothole outside the main supermarket which the council did not fix. So, Totnes folk being Totnes folk, they set up a Trip Advisor account for it which got masses of reviews. The pothole was soon fixed!

      Ha ha amazing
      That’s funny
Reminds me of the trolley park at a Sainsbury’s in Somerset that became a tourist attraction!

Well, this is the best video I've seen on your channel. Totnes has been on my list for years, but your video is the first one I've seen of Totnes on a beautiful sunny day! I must get over there and see it live.
So many youtube travel videos are mainly an excuse for a long selfie and silly blather with disgusting shots of plates of food at favorite restaurants. Your channel is so enjoyable without all the distractions and the captions are always welcome. And, btw, I love how the English complain about the heat on a sunny day. LOL Come over here to South Carolina sometime and get to know what summer heat is for real!!

😎Just an idea of what we could use churches for in the future betting shops, then everybody would still be going into them with HOPE.

Thanks for the walk. I wonder why there is no water in the canal at 3.08. ? And what is the name of the small houses in the window at 9.07?

It’s not a canal, it’s part of the River Dart. The river is tidal and it’s low tide in this video. The green space with trees which may have made you think it was a canal is Vire Island. Just a small tree and tree filled tiny island in the river. A lot of activities and small fairs etc happen there. I find it’s simply a nice place to take my coffee or my lunch on a sunny day.
