I had a situation once at a anime convention where I tried to buy a real sword but the vender insulted me because he thought I go around and try to assault people. He pressured me into buying a fake one. I bought it but rarely use it.
It felt like he was a UK shop owner to be honest in the UK if the price is labelled people ain't getting a discount from haggling. The haggling customer may even be viewed as the bad guy in the scenario why I rarely shop in person :/ Sorry you had a terrible experience 😢
Definitely had this happen a couple times. Vendors sometimes act like just because you ask to see an item you are already agreeing to buy it. If this guy kept pushing me like he did you, I would have just told him market price is about $100 and that's what I am looking to pay. He was way too aggressive knocking the price down repeatedly after you said you were passing on it. I find it best to move on from those people to find somewhere else to spend my money.
I had an identical experience with that vendor. I’ve been to 3 conventions he’s been at since I help a buddy of mine run a booth. I was interested in an NES Deluxe set he had, box was clean, but of course before committing to purchasing I wanted to check out the insides. Well it wasn’t fully complete with all the parts, games didn’t have their boxes, etc so I told him I’d have to pass. (He had it marked a few hundred above sold comps) and he wouldn’t leave me alone about it and made me feel like I was somehow the bad guy for backing out, when I was never committed to begin with. Then he comes up to our booth and offers 60% price charting on all our high end games, we tell him no, then he acts like he does us a favor by saying “yeah I won’t buy these I’ll let you make more money by selling them during the event.” Like yeah that wasn’t your choice buddy 😂 he’s unbelievable
The first minute of the video the guys with the Barbie control stuff are the homies from retro respawn they are amazing people and very friendly glad to see you met them 🙏
I do a lot of cards shows and there are always a few vendors like this. It's a shame because at these big cons and shows ... a lot of families are there and they don't know any better than to over spend on some of these games/cards. Its very predatory and scummy to me.
His bartering skills are +99 he knows how to pressure you into buying it and makes your emotions rile up into making a buy so he can leave you alone. It's disgusting, annoying but don't be decieved it's a tactic and works to combat this you need to learn to reciprocate the same energy towards him and he will lose the more awkward you are the more he will push it's 100% tactic it's done in politics and across the world.
@@AyoMousy what you describe is harassment lol if i was there and he did that BS to me, i'd just straight up yell out loud "Fvck off i'm not buying your overpriced crap!" lol
I came across this guy during the convention. He kept talking to me about how he’s tired of people not buying “sh**” and wasting his time when they politely decline. Probably because his stuff was way over price charting prices. Dude made my family uncomfortable and I had to help them back out of convos with him because he kept trying to aggressively get them to buy an item from guilt. He was a straight up a hole.
Eventually he will find out that the world responds back with the same energy that you give out. If he's nicer to people then people will be nice to him and maybe buy more products if he's willing to negotiate.
The saddest part about this is that you don't even have to show the vendors face, I know this vendor, I recognize the stuff they're selling. I've run into them several times in the past and their prices are soo ridiculous its stupid. They've got a couple of the N64 controllers I need to complete my set, one was double the pc price, the other $100 over pc. They also sold a buddy of mine a broken gba for $70, which was the negotiated price. He almost quit retro after that. At this point I just go to their booth to mock them.
Had to help my family out when they encountered them. He was a dick to them and it was their first year buying retro. Overall wish I never see him selling ever again
I dont see the need to show the guy's face or mock. His selling skills could def use some cleaning up but it's ultimately his right to price his stuff however he wants.
@@SamuelJ888try telling that to dkoldies audience. mocking resellers because of prices of discontinued rare items seems like the only fun this community has
@@platinumnukes >Discontinued "rare items" >Pokemon Soul Silver >Sold over 12 *million* copies worldwide >Usually 150+ dollars for loose cart Nah this market is screwed that's just the reality
I'm a small local seller who does local meetups and shows to sell some of my video games and you can tell very quickly who is there to sell and enjoy themselves meeting new people and who's there just to make a quick buck. He was clearly only there for money and nothing else. I personally love talking to people when they look at the games and other stuff I have for sale because it makes the time go quickly while we are both having fun talking about the stuff we love! Hell, I've made so many friends from my local monthly meetup just from my selling and it's something I'll always enjoy! I'm also the type of person where if I find out someone else has a better price than me, I will always push for them to get theirs over mine if the condition is nicer or its too good to pass up! We are a community at the end of the day and I want people to get the most out of their money, especially with everything getting more and more pricey in 2024.
as the kids say "he did not pass the vibe check". 100% agree that haggling is a dance and you gotta know when the other person isnt feeling it. i walk away from those interactions every time
Very nice of you to say you appreciate his offer and it's a nice deal. I would've just told him "dude, I just said another booth got it for 120, why would I pay 130".
I had an experience like that at the retro game expo last year & a sega Saturn game I wanted to get was like $500. I ended up just finding it on eBay for around $300 lol
I think the vendor didn't believe another booth had the game for 120 so he offered 130 trying to see if was true or he couldn't let go for less. I know I only keep a certain amount of money each pocket stating that's all the money I have to get better deal. He's not a good saleman but to say he's all about the money, of course when your trying to make a living your going to be for the money. The guy could be tired of people lowballing his items causing to have a bad day. We all have bad days hopefully it's just a bad day.
Nick had the best metaphor. It is a dance when you haggle. Most of the time it's a junior high dance however. Personally, I just don't find it worth it half the time. But he nailed it. Vendor just looking to make a sale on Sunday.
I absolutely hate the greedy resellers, really are the plague of our hobby. Walking away was the right call. We cant encourage them to continue to rip people off.
Yep. They are there to make money.... don't like the price??? Just walk away and look for another reseller that'll take your lower asking price. Easy. This couple looks soft and fragile, lol.
@@maartenn2217 Yes, but that's the nature of older games and systems. Everyone is a reseller, but most people are there because they enjoy it and can make some money from their hobby. There's a word for a reseller who sets things at an exorbant price with the intention of ripping off uninformed or less opportune buyers - scalpers.
@@maartenn2217 Yes, it is. A scalper is someone who sells items at higher than usual prices for a quick profit, that's all there is to it. The method behind how they sell them, what they are selling and where they're selling it is irrelevant.
One thing I notice about the vendor and the booth is that the boxes were completely full. I can only imagine that they didn't sell that much at that Expo. I think you said that this was the second or third day too. I also found it strange that every DS game was in a bag as well but not the Wii U games. I'm glad you stuck to your guns and did not give into the purchase. Like the store manager said, that vendor was all about the $$$$$. I have never sold at an Expo but I have done some local swaps. I usually have my prices under market value and then give discounts if people buy multiple games. Being friendly and open and honest helps in every transaction.
I think the worse experience I have had with a convention seller was with artwork at anime expo in Los Angeles. I found some really cool looking sheet metal pieces. I saw one with the full evolution line for the polemon bulbasaur which I really likes and when I asked for it the vendor laughed in my face and asked me if I was serious. When I confirmed that it was what I wanted they went pale and instead of apologizing they tried to convince they weren't making fun of me. I was young and really wanted it so I bought it anyways but realistically I should've walked away. Especially since I moved not long after and it got ruined in transit anyways. Was such a waste.
Experienced something similar at MWGC. I was looking for the price on a Breath of Fire III and he tells me 130 and I was clearly disappointed but politely told him "okay that's more than I can spend at this time, thanks." He then offered $120 and I told him I appreciate it but I didn't have to cash for it. Well I take card he says and then he says you know some people don't know what that game is worth these days." I got angry at this point and said no thanks and walked away. I know the game is worth about half that! Everyone else does too and that's why he went home with it. I don't like telling small business people how to run things but don't insult my intelligence.
Not happened to me in terms of video games. But I had a salesman at a car dealership try to block the door one time because I was walking away from an offer.
I think there are times where you have to walk away immediately if the price is too high. If there’s a high value title, know what the value is before you get a chance to look at it and if it’s too high just cut the cord immediately that you don’t want it. If it’s a $100 game and you’re seeing a $150 price tag there’s literally no reason to start any negotiation as the seller is more than likely too far in price to care about dropping it that much lower. I’ve never, in the past however many years of collecting, been able to convince any seller to drop their price to price charting levels if they’re already asking 30-40%+ what price charting has a game listed at, it’s a losing battle no matter what.
Very good point. We definitely wanted to walk away, but he had a lot of great stuff for sale and we already bought from him. It's a shame it had to get to this point 😞
I completely agree. When I come across a booth and I see items way above market value (happens at every convention, don't know how these people make money), I immediately skip the whole thing. But I understand it might be different if you are really are set on getting a rare item.
It’s a high pressure sales tactic. Works on weak minds. I hate it when a salesman pulls that on me, but it’s easy to counter. You can choose to walk away at any time.
OMG that's the same guy that tried to sell me a DBZ attack of the saiyans that wouldn't get detected on my 3ds and he said "just take it and use isopropyl alcohol and it will work" he had it for $100 but then lowered it to $80 like bruhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Thank you for posting about this, I actually feel this happens quite a bit in the retro gaming and collecting sphere. You can tell in retro collectible conventions when a seller cares about the products, but you definitely run into those who seem to just be off. They'll have very high prices, have a grouchy attitude the whole time, and I'm sorry to say I see them usually having either family members or employees that seem like they just don't want to be there and don't know much about the products.
I have experienced something similar to this before. This guy clearly just wanted the money and didn't care about anything else. He's a businessman, and I get that, but there is no reason really to be so aggressive. In my case, I ended up just walking away after politely turning down the sale and the guy even followed me for a bit dropping the price by $1 every 30 seconds or so. I literally had to turn around and just tell him I am not buying from him on principle at that point.
Body language is so important and by the tone of his voice you can easily tell when the vendor has an attitude and just flat out sound rude.. If you want to sell things it's literally like a job, show that you care!!
If someone's haggling aggressively, and try and pull you back, throw out a low ball offer. It flips it back on them. They will either get offended and stop the negotation, or counter with a much better price. Don't get scared, it's just negotiation and it's how the rest of the world works.
VHS is one of those formats I grew up with and despite that I have no nostalgia for it. Bad quality picture, fragile tapes and the machines that ate them, and rewinding. The only fond memories related to VHS was trips to the rental store on the weekends.
12:20 I love his explanation of the types of sellers. The ones who know and understand the value of the game but want it to go to a good home where it will be cherished. And then you have others who just act like crappy salesman. I haven’t shopped in person at conventions like this but I’ve sent offers on ebay, telling them that I would love to have a game because it means a lot due to nostalgia and such. They have always accepted my offers despite missing out on 30$ or so. Those are the sellers that stand out!
I literally have Dino Riders VHS #1 in my player right now. Freaking love that one. The best part of the Dino Riders VHS is the Tyco advertisements for the Dino Riders toys.
WAH! Just found True Lies at my local pawn shop and was STOKED to pick it up. Absolutely would have done the same and walked away from that dude. Sellers can ask however much they want for their items: if a little haggling doesn't work out, I walk away! :D. Great video as always!
I've never been to an expo, but I've had some experience in dealing with video game vendors. Sometimes you can't pick the personality of who the vendor is. All you can do is decide if you wish to negotiate, then figure out what is best for you in the end. Buy it now...or just wait . That's all you can do in the end guys. Thanks again for the video.
With that vendor I would have just said thank you after about the second counter of only taking $5 off and walked away never to do business with them again. The people I do business with understand to treat customers with respect. There was none there.
Walking away from a deal because you don't want to pay a higher price isn't a bad thing. Vendors need to stop trying to be overly aggressive it makes people feel extremely uncomfortable and just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. It can turn a good day into a really bad one. Case and point for me I took a cib earthbound with the scratch and sniff stickers, little sampson cib with some box wear and crusader of centy to a local retro game shop. They basically wanted to give me 30% of what each game is worth. To make a long story short the guy said look I got all these games and have a shop I don't need to go higher on your games, if you want trade I can go 35% on each. Mind you most of his stuff was already marked up 20 plus percent higher than sold listings on eBay or price charting. I decided to decline the offer and he said good take your games your banned from my store. I don't get how vendors and store owners take this approach when you don't want to take their offers
There's this one vendor, here in puerto rico. Who sells a lot of vintage toys. But not only does he not clean them. His stuff is full of dust and mold. And is expecting people to pay top dollar, like it was brand new. Everytime this guy has a booth up. People get sick from visiting him. The guy is banned from all of the big events here in puerto rico. But he tries to sneak into any event he can get in. He's also incredibly pushy and doesn't even know the prices of his stuff. All he does is fiddle with his phone and looks up ebay prices😂
Calling 12,000 steps in a day crazy is shocking. You’re supposed to get 10,000 steps per day. So you basically got a normal recommended amount of steps in. Crazy would be 40,000 at a convention lol
I love pokemon i have a pokemon insta i adore running solely for art and photos and being part of the community, but when COVID hit and it became really popular to the point of seeing the worst greed in the community i stepped away for a few years because I just lost all joy in it. My photos were getting comments like (why is that card only in one sleeve if your taking photos outside” or constant dm’s trying to sell me overpriced cards and getting mad when id say no thanks, or im not really looking to buy cards atm.
I do miss those days like a kid getting a booster and hoping for a holo or a gym leader or even a favorite, not for money but because they looked cool.
I had a similar experience with that guy but ultimately did buy from him b/c he was the only vendor with the games I wanted. I stood firm on what I was willing to pay though, and he eventually accepted, so maybe I caught him on an off day.
Just pull out your phone and show the EBAY sold listings. Wizard of OZ DS's highest sold is 120+6 ship the next one was 120 free ship then a few went for between 110-120. Then explain you can get it at the other booth for 120. Then "Would you do 115?" He says no go right over to the other guy and buy the 120 one. If that guy doesn't understand that all customers want the lowest price he shouldn't be buying and selling anything.
There's a saying about gamehunting at conventions: "The first day is quality, the last day is quantity." It's a gamble: if there's something you want, do you buy it right away at a higher price, or try waiting until the last day when you can probably negotiate for a lower price, but at the risk that someone else might buy it on a earlier day? But with guys like that, their stock wont shrink much. And that's on him.
I dealt with that guy at that expo.. the first day he was pretty chill and actually gave me a bit of a deal for a few games, but on Sunday his his whole demeanor changed... he was super rude to one of my friends when he asked if he would go lower on a game and was just complaining about how much he spent to bring all his merch to this expo...
Do people not realize you can emulate GBA games very easily? Even on your phone? I understand paying 100+ for a game with the box for collection/display but just the cartridge is crazy for 100+ 😮
So as a store manager or a local game store, the store owner in the video is absolutely correct. I just don't think he knows really how to talk to people honestly. I've had some people come in here saying stuff like, " hey i see you have this priced as this, but on price charting it's this" if it's something I get in all the time, I will 100% be like okay sure we can do that new price for you, or if it's stuff I don't see all the time, I will communicate that with them and tell them hey, I understand that it's this price on price charting but we have it priced like this because we don't really see it come in the door very often or at all really, so I feel like I could go "random price" and if they say no, then that it. The sale just wasn't meant to be and that's that. Lol You always try and continue to be upfront and honest with your customers and try to make them feel comfortable. I hate pushy salesmen and I hate when salesmen get mad if they don't get their way.
12:10 I agree with the fella here, it wasn't the price that was the whole problem but how he was way too aggressive with how he pushed the game onto you with the attitude. It was pretty obvious that you weren't interested and were trying to move on, but he just kept insisting on it. He comes across as very rude and really one sided. Guys like him exist but quite frankly places like that are better off not bothering.
As someone who used to work in a mom and pop game shop you can't be to pushy my boss used to offer deals to people if you were buy lots of games but if the customer didn't want it you don't be pushy because that can damage the business reputation of the store by seeing like we only care about sales , a lot of people came back because we had talked to them about games before buying them or gave recommendations based on what they were purchasing. If they didn't want to converse that was fine too. But me and my bosses were just a bunch of nerds who liked video games. So we tried to be as relatable as we could so people would be comfortable buying from us
How would one go about finding these conventions?? Is there a community page to follow or is it just a google search type of thing? I’ve always wanted to go to one duper bad!! 😊
Idk if it's my luck but every time I want something or need it for my collection. Its always with a seller that has it at a crazy price and barley any wiggle room. Example 150 card, TCG it's 150 and he would only go as low as 140 or 145. Like wtf that's not even a deal at all. So I usually rely on searching everywhere, and I noticed the same card in Japan is 50, plus 5 or 20 given to the package. So I get it half of what he sells it for. I've noticed a lot of times the seller overvalue their items since a lot of people don't know where else to look for. Then when I try asking others to at least give me a chance to get one part of my collection done, I'm never given a chance. In whatnot, more than half of the sales of good prices are sold to resellers or people who have a store, I would hear "oh we try giving people a chance plus it's dumb if we buy cheap stuff and sell it later without letting other finish their collection". And by the end of the stream or whatnot live you ca see that the majority of the sales where from a seller or a store owner. These guys barley give anyone who's a collector or customer a chance and keep stuff to themselves. Then they get an attitude when nobody wants to buy their retail or overpriced items. Ofc not all of em, but Jesus man, give us a chance for something
I would just walk away at that point. Even if there was something I was interested in, his attitude is such a huge red flag. Side note but there's a Resident Evil tablet candy at 11:59 priced for $100. I really wonder how much that seller bought it for because it's a nonlimited item, priced at 864 yen (~7 USD at the time) from Capcom's store in Japan. At least in 4/2023 when I visited and bought one. You really have to do your research when when looking for stuff! Also, glad I stumbled upon this video!
Def not an icky situation... If he was hitting on you then I would feel icky, but someone trying to lower the price to see what your going to say next is a sales tactic... May not be the best in all situations but it may work in some/most and he uses that all the time
What was there to say next? He told the guy he could buy it for 120, and he still refused to go any lower nor did he give any incentive to buy it for 130 either. This tactic made no sense what so ever.
coming from someone that deals in comics and works with alot of vendors and helps them setup at shows. You see this alot as well where you will have tht once vendor who will try and pressure you into selling them your books for nothing. While acting like they are doing you a favor by buying your stuff for cheap and act annoyed if you tell them no when i can sell to someone at the event at a real price. But god forbid you try and make an offer on their stuff and they want full price plus some for books that are no where near the actually amount. But atleast in our community you see a ton of the same vendors at these big to mid size cons and the ones you see do this kind of crap usually end up not getting invited to any future cons and end up closing up shop since none of the other vendors will work with them and people in general stop buying from them. cause its suppose to be a fun hobby and not feel like your going to a car dealership and have a sales man all over you. I actually remember one dealer who did this at 3 shows over a year ago who would get aggressive with people coming to look at his stuff. Then saw a guy selling big key books for cheap prices already and he was trying to brow beat the guy into selling him all his keys for way lower offers. The guy wasnt sure what to do till another dealer next to him saw what was going on and walked over. whispered in the guys ear to tell the guy to piss off and sell the books at the prices he wants and not let him pressure him. which is exactly what he did. Then a few weeks later the jerk dealer was at another con where he actually got banned from which caused him to get black listed from all future cons across 4 states. He setup at a con that was free for vendors and did a deal with the guy who was the sponsor where he sold the guy hosting the event multiple long boxes of books for a fair offer that was suppose to have some good books in them As the sponsor had looked over the boxs and had to go deal with some stuff but would come back at the end of the event to grab said boxs to load up. Well come the end of the con, and the guy picked up all the boxes from this vendor without looking in them again cause as stated the deal had been done and the books had been paid for. Well apparently when he finally got back him he found that all the good books that were in these boxes that he saw were removed. Apparently the vendor had pulled all the good books out of the boxs after the deal and sold them instead while still keeping the money which mind you made these boxs work alot less than what was paid for. After that word got out and the vendor was barred from all future events and was even told that his reservations at the cons he had signed up for were revoked and refunded his money. Never saw the guy again or heard anything about him trying to setup anywhere else. Mind you he wasnt a big player, more of someone that got into the comic book crazy and was trying to make a quick buck type deal.
I was so happy to see you guys freak out at the Dino Riders VHS, and it's even volume 1. Definitely one of my grail VHS goals and to this day I don't know how that series wasn't wildly successful.
I know of the name if the series was like a Young Justice or Arthur and the Knights of Justice and made specifically to sell merch and that didn't sell than the studio would drop it. So many fun cartoons suffered that fate throughout the 80's and 90's.
As someone that works in a job where we can upsell and has experience in a straight up sales position, I would’ve given him a hard no. Very direct and very stern “No, not interested”. He sounds like one of those bad pushy salesmen that has no finesse or tact.
Can anyone tell me where these expos are? Where I live I'm lucky to find a few games at the flea markets and we have no gaming shops. I saw The Misadventures of Tron Bonne and lost it. So amazing.
They pop up all over the country and are owned by different people for each one. A lot of UA-cam content creators announce them, John Riggs is one of the best at announcing them 🙂
I would have told that particular seller to go away and leave. I'd probably be mean about it to. Was to a giant retromarket this weekend, the sellers there was all wonderful and I spent far to much money. Went to one seller and we got talking and somehow I got a thirty percent discount on games that were already sold under market value, I didn't even ask for a discount. He just gave it to me because we had a good conversation.
I would have told that vendor "No thanks" and walked off. No explanation needed. I dont have time for people like that, he didnt deserve an explanation from you.
Unfortunately there are just alot of game store owners and resellers in general that are just like that. They don't play video games really they only see it as money. I really don't like that at all. Like ok if you are only in it for the money at least work with your customers. I'm a reseller I resell everything and I do resell video games. I get the dance you should be able to negotiate. Also I don't think most people really understand that just because on ebay it says the game is 145 plus a $5 shipping that means it's worth $150. Remember there are fees and shipping that should be taken consideration that "150" game is really actually worth "125" that's why going lower on some of the games just means they are removing the fees and pricing at what it costs not really saving money. Idk I would feel the same way but you guys were respectful and did exactly what I would have done. I would show the dude the prices or say what I'm seeing for that game but that does tend to get people all mad. Like so are you saying I'm not pricing things right? At that point it's best to walk away I'm sure you guys will find it again
I learned from working at a pawn shop in college that when the price is high enough that you already know they won't be able to meet your price then just politely tell them you're not interested, which I think you did. If they continue to pressure you then just tell them you are looking for it for much cheaper and wouldn't want to offend them with the offer. At that point some people still want to know so just tell them how much you're wanting to get it for. Usually they just laugh and you give them the courtesy laugh of, "see, told ya." Some people will still get upset, and honestly just knowing that you can only control your own actions is the best view point to have. You have no obligation to purchase from someone and shouldn't feel bad because of someone else's actions. Sometimes they can surprise you and accept your offer.
Only thing I would’ve done different is when he says, “How much are you talking?” Just tell him the price you’re thinking about. Don’t mention the other booths and their prices cause most people will just get agitated. If he doesn’t like the price you’re at then you both just move on.
Im starting to get into collecting/ reselling and depending on the tone of people who want to buy my stuff I'll usually lower the prices quite a bit. I sold to a dad not too long ago who wanted his kid to experience gen 4 of pokemon so i lowered the price and even gave him some info on how to access the event pokemon. Him and his son looked stoked so i was happy to give HG a new home. Its all about the experience for me and hopefully letting others experience something i thought was cool. I dont bother with the rude people who kill the vibe.
Your situation happened to me and I love these guys that don't know much on what they got. Got a gold Nintendo 64 system in box for $80 bucks. Said to the guy I saw that one for $50 bucks at another booth ( it was just another N64 in box but not gold) and he came back with $80. At the end of the show, guy was looking at me hard, he knew he got hustled ! Had to get the guy for disrespecting my niece and ripping her off. Sold it a year later for $1250.00 and gave it to my niece as a reminder of that situation!
This happens alot at comic con. Worst offendenders are the OG Power Rangers cast. You'll walk up say hi to them, tell them you loved them growing up. But there like "ya thats great, now do you want to buy my autograph?" I dont say hi to them anymore. Aslo there wash up's. This is all they have for a buck. Take a picture, print it a buzzilion times and sell it for 80 to 100 bucks. Dont vist the power rangers especially the red and black ranger. Especially red trust me. Guy wont sign anything hes not selling.
I think we all have had bad interactions in retail at times. At times you can get a deal on some things and at times you won't. What amazes me is ..if that clip was on the Sunday (and end of Con) usually guys are pushing to make as much sales as possible. As one shop owner friend told me , "I wanna get rid as much stuff since i gotta load it all back up..." lol.
I've seen a video with that Nick guy recently that was pretty good. I believe it was about Phoenix Resale being a harm to gaming so of course I liked it lol
I haggle a lot with resellers, but when folks try to hassle you it's best just to tell the person thanks for their time and have a good day while looking them in their eyes. They'll understand the memo once you stop eye contact.
I didn’t know they had a game expo here in Phoenix recently… That would have been cool to go to. I wonder when the next one will be here in the Valley.
I have absolutely, ZERO respect for resellers in general. Case in point, dude trying to sell Dawn of Mana for OVER pricecharting value. Personally, I love walking around these shows and just making fun of those GOONS. UA-cam recommended your channel to me, and I like what I saw. Plus, you had Mort in your video! ✊ You can tell that man is just a genuinely nice person. I love his energy/vibe, he ALWAYS has something nice & positive to say. That's the kinda person we can all learn a thing or two from. (Being nice. EXCEPT to resellers. Cause 🤬 those people. 😆) You've gained a sub 👍 Hope you guys have a great weekend! 🤜🤛
Love the content. Would you guys ever talk about what it’s like to go to these cons. Like is it crazy busy around town. Do you go early and wait in lines or later. Essentially the what it’s like at a con and what realistically it looks like to go.
I cannot stand those types of people who tries to force you into buying something thats a little overpriced & honestly i would walk away.. one time actually tried to buy a one gamecube game from a fb marketplace & it was a copy of the legend of zelda”windwaker”(cib) and this guy listed it way overpriced about $120 bucks.. and i even told him that i can go on ebay or a retro gamestore for a way better price for that copy which usually that copy runs around $77 & dude just got so mad and acted like i dont know nothing about any retro video games.. which usually i always look up prices before i buy it.. and he even tried to convince me to buy it from him im like nahh im good fam.. any retro gamers out there! Stay safe! Which at the end of the day.. there’s just wayy better deals just gotta find them! Goodluck👍🏽
Growlancer is so cool, bought the collection when it first came out. back then all the extras game disks, artbook, watch, cards, and other stuff that came with it, only $80. gaming back then was so much cooler
I had the horrible experience too that's why I don't go anymore to those conventions this guy talked to my 15 years old kid and made fall in a trap sale he made him fall into Dreamcast in a very bad shape lucky for me he dint have the money when he got me lucky for me he told the guy he was going to get the money when he saw me he got mad he told my kid that it supposed to get money just for that I knew he was a scammer I kept my cool and I said I want to test it before the sale he said is sold as it is.. the was asking 300 dollars I said bye no sale he immediately yelled 200 and you can test it u said no sale you're a very unprofessional and you don't sale to minors without the parents you're a scammer my friends later told me everyone avoided that both he was fumming on the way back my kid only said this was very good lesson dad thank you don't mention it son but always do your research if what you want don't get crazy for glamour of the store or the conventions got it Dad...very big lesson for both
What a b**!! Just buy your kid an emulation device and install emulators and roms for free on it. The retroid pocket 4 pro is excellent. Only downside is that you have to set it up yourself. I literally have 13000 games installed on mine so no need to buy anything. Doesn't hurt to look though. I laugh at ppl like that and just walk away laughing harder.
Other way around for me, was selling off my MegaMan merch collection and had a guy not take the hint that I knew he was trying to rip me off. He shows me a photo on his phone for the statue I was selling going for $20 on Ebay, offers me $30. Didn't count on me looking up that auction and seeing that statue had all the limbs snapped off and messily glued back on. Mine was mint, signed COA, hand numbered, and with the letter from Capcom included. Told him no go, he kept pushing until I just ignored him. I had a lot of dudes just like him when I sold off that collection, every last one acted like a woman couldn't possibly know game merch values and was there for the picking. It felt so icky, I wanted to rehome these things I loved and pay for the new bed I needed for my medical needs but it was all about getting something super cheap to these guys.
BTW - yes they all sold. I made enough to not only buy my bed but redo my bedroom to be more accessible for my disability. I hope the merch is being loved and displayed.
Have you ever experienced this kind of situation before? Comment below!
I had a situation once at a anime convention where I tried to buy a real sword but the vender insulted me because he thought I go around and try to assault people. He pressured me into buying a fake one. I bought it but rarely use it.
That seller deserves a whole episode on @steviefreakinc 's channel!
I had the same problem. He didn’t want me to see any games. He just gave me the price and said, “Are you going to buy it or not?”
Bad attitude as a seller
@@AyoMousy what you describe is harassment lol if i was there and he did that BS to me, i'd just straight up yell out loud "Fvck off i'm not buying your overpriced crap!" lol
"I will do $130"
me: "Cool, I will save $10 and buy it from another vendor..."
Lol
I would said "You could have told me $100, I would still rather give the $120 to the other dealer who was friendly and not jumping down my throat. 🤣🤣

100% agree that haggling is a dance and you gotta know when the other person isnt feeling it. i walk away from those interactions every time
He wanted $150 for that game cause he probably "Invested" $120 into it for a quick flip
Very nice of you to say you appreciate his offer and it's a nice deal.
I would've just told him "dude, I just said another booth got it for 120, why would I pay 130".
Lol
Dude is probably a used car salesman outside of expos. When people get pushy I just walk, no need to give him my time
I absolutely hate the greedy resellers, really are the plague of our hobby. Walking away was the right call. We cant encourage them to continue to rip people off.
You are delusional. They are literally in a convention centre full of resellers.
@@lightshadow3683 lol that's not what a scalper is at all
@@maartenn2217 Yes, it is.
😞
That’s borderline kidnapping 😂
I would’ve called the police right away. Gotta make it big so everyone knows who not to buy from.
Tbf, price charting isn't exactly accurate. It's a decent tool but no where near the end all be all of determining market value.
I completely agree. When I come across a booth and I see items way above market value (happens at every convention, don't know how these people make money), I immediately skip the whole thing. But I understand it might be different if you are really are set on getting a rare item.
Yeah been so pushy it’s a huge no for me even if is a good deal I would walk away just because I get awkward and make it uncomfortable.
Agreed 🙂
It’s a high pressure sales tactic. Works on weak minds. I hate it when a salesman pulls that on me, but it’s easy to counter. You can choose to walk away at any time.
You did everything right were collectors and we want good deals . Everyone has there price but that doesn't mean we gotta pay that price
Thanks for saying so 🙂
There was a car sellsman, who went to get an aggressive manager. He wouldn't let me leave, I had my eyes on a Honda Accord in another dealership.

14:34 No, You had it right first time around. You are running out of room! It's a constraint! 😂
Haha both are true!
Mr Wright Way 17:01 top left, white shirt, hat. Awesome dude, has a great channel.
It's such a shame that vendors can be like this. As a store owner and collector it hurts to see this
VHS is one of those formats I grew up with and despite that I have no nostalgia for it. Bad quality picture, fragile tapes and the machines that ate them, and rewinding. The only fond memories related to VHS was trips to the rental store on the weekends.
I can respect that for sure. A lot of the nostalgia comes from Blockbuster lol
I’m 19 but I grew up with VHS cause my family had a bunch. I also found them really annoying.
Blockbuster and Hollywood Video for sure. good times I still remember all those VHS anime titles.
As a dealer and collector at big shows that’s so awkward but not shocking from leaving the booth and shopping the floor
Sorry you guys had to deal with that, great video as always!!

Hi. Great video. I might have missed it in the vid, but what convention is that? Looks familiar. Thx
It was the Phoenix GameOn Expo 😀
@@JRPGLife Never been to that one. Thanks for the quick response. Subbed
It’s almost like that’s what they just said
There's this one vendor, here in puerto rico.
Ugh, what a bummer
How can he sneak into an event? You have to register to the event organizer as a vendor to sell at the event right?
Calling 12,000 steps in a day crazy is shocking. You’re supposed to get 10,000 steps per day. So you basically got a normal recommended amount of steps in. Crazy would be 40,000 at a convention lol
"I mean how much are you talking about?"
He sounds so irritated
@6:07 Absolute Legend!
I had a similar experience with that guy but ultimately did buy from him b/c he was the only vendor with the games I wanted. I stood firm on what I was willing to pay though, and he eventually accepted, so maybe I caught him on an off day.
Nick was 200% spot on like absolutely locked in with the knowledge brother
Just want to clear things up...y'all are amazing be safe and take care love your videos
Im glad i stopped collecting the prices are outrageous nowadays

Where are these locations called video game vendors? Trying to go to one of these places, how do you find out where it’s located at
You'll just have to Google gaming expos and see where one is coming soon near you 😀
Do people not realize you can emulate GBA games very easily? Even on your phone?
I understand paying 100+ for a game with the box for collection/display but just the cartridge is crazy for 100+ 😮

😅
What do you guys use to resurface your disks? And would you recommend it for others? Thanks!
We have an Eco Auto Smart, it's fantastic! But it's very expensive...
There really isn't a community page, but the best UA-camr to follow for convention announcements, in my opinion, is John Riggs 😀

Thanks so much for watching 😀
We were so stoked to find it! 😀
I know of the name if the series was like a Young Justice or Arthur and the Knights of Justice and made specifically to sell merch and that didn't sell than the studio would drop it. So many fun cartoons suffered that fate throughout the 80's and 90's.
Nice channel loving the videos
Thanks so much for watching 😀
As someone that works in a job where we can upsell and has experience in a straight up sales position, I would’ve given him a hard no. Very direct and very stern “No, not interested”. He sounds like one of those bad pushy salesmen that has no finesse or tact.
Can anyone tell me where these expos are? Where I live I'm lucky to find a few games at the flea markets and we have no gaming shops. I saw The Misadventures of Tron Bonne and lost it. So amazing.
They pop up all over the country and are owned by different people for each one. A lot of UA-cam content creators announce them, John Riggs is one of the best at announcing them 🙂
@@JRPGLifethank you so much I really hope to go to one. Happy hunting
There is one in Portland every year in September or October. Look up portland gaming expo. All the local game stores go there to sell their stuff.
@@SpokaneGirl85 thank you I really hope to go
what was that booth with the sweet enamel pins?
Bb.cre8 🙂
What is the shop called?
I am unsure, sorry.
If he doesn’t like the price you’re at then you both just move on.
are those games and videos English versions or original Japanese versions?
These are all English/US release games 🙂
@@JRPGLife Ta for the clarification.
Do you have a link for the company that makes the pins at the 2 min mark?
We don't, sorry! We need to get better at keeping that info 😕
@@JRPGLife all good no worries. Lots of things to see at shows so hard to get info for everything.
You guys are too nice. I would have said I’ll give you 90 take it or leave it and walk away even if he still talking. lol but I’m a savage 😂
okay where can i find that Jack Frost T-shirt??? i need it!
I believe we bought it directly from the Atlus store 🙂
Sad but funny that they are the villains in real life
I think we all have had bad interactions in retail at times.
Phoenix Resale makes everyone uncomfortable
Not us, he is a dear friend 🙂
I've seen a video with that Nick guy recently that was pretty good. I believe it was about Phoenix Resale being a harm to gaming so of course I liked it lol
Yeah he was shitting on Caleb for doing all those videos on why it’s bad to own a game store now
All these resellers are harmful to rjese cheap games haha
All my homies hate phoenix resale 🤝
Everyone you buy from is a reseller. If you don’t want to pay for it don’t buy it. 😂
How do we destroy Phoenix Reseller reputation and business?
I haggle a lot with resellers, but when folks try to hassle you it's best just to tell the person thanks for their time and have a good day while looking them in their eyes. They'll understand the memo once you stop eye contact.
What would I have done? Not make a video.
I didn’t know they had a game expo here in Phoenix recently… That would have been cool to go to. I wonder when the next one will be here in the Valley.
April 4th-6th, 2025! 😀
@@JRPGLife next year. 😫 that is so long away! Well thank you for telling me! I’m definitely looking forward to attending it next year.
You've gained a sub 👍 Hope you guys have a great weekend! 🤜🤛
Thanks for watching 😀
Isn't everyone there technically a reseller?
That's weird, the audio is completely out of sync watching on my PS5 using the UA-cam app. Fine on my phone.
Love the content. Would you guys ever talk about what it’s like to go to these cons. Like is it crazy busy around town. Do you go early and wait in lines or later. Essentially the what it’s like at a con and what realistically it looks like to go.
Thanks for watching! We'll have to mention some of those items when we come across them during a future con 😀
I wouldn't have stuck around that long to talk to that guy.
We know that vendor from that weekend... He was a bit aggressive and unwilling to work with us with things! Trust he wasnt a guy we'd talk to again
