You actually don't make a ton on ads, but since he has diversified his business he can make the numbers he gets plus he got pretty lucky taking advantage of covid
I made the mistake of opening a game store and focusing primarily on picking up brand new games from distributors. Profit margins were nearly non-existent. There was no way to compete with big chains since they were able to buy in bulk and get better discounts. These days I have a standard "9 - 5" type job (and hate it). I do some game sales/trades on the side, but hate how much people low ball you. I am currently building up a collection in preparation of opening an actual store again some time in the near future. This time though, I am going to focus primarily on cartridge based games. That and I was a PC repair technician for many years and have done extensive repairs on game consoles as well, so will be offering repair services as well once I am up & running again.
The idea that "big chains" succeed just because they get huge discounts is a huge misconception. I used to handle purchase orders for a large chain and saw the direct-from-manufacturer costs. Whether it was media or electronics, the profit margins didn’t change. My region alone had 250 stores, and during Christmas, I might order over 100,000 units. Whether it was a restock or a holiday blast, the margins stayed the same. Big chains thrive because of logistics, real-time data, and knowing what sells, where, and when-not just discounts.
Caleb you are a great UA-camr but one hell of a reseller! Most of us that watch to learn how to improve our own businesses and this video is a great example of that! Great work!
I did the same thing you're doing from 2008 until 2020, but I did it while working in Tokyo. I continued to hold a full time job, and grossed about $100k a year. I was the import source for several game shops across the US and Europe. I then pivoted from console games to arcade games and accessories. I have to admit, the first few years were very fun. I eventually quit because the taxman, eBay, packaging, shipping, and Paypal all take SO MUCH. It made it not worth all of the hard work. You couldn't get me back into this for anything. Good luck with your biz.
@@speardrops - I had almost no time off. I was doing a full-time job 8-5, and then coming home to do games from 6 to 10. Everyday. So no - eventually the time was no longer worth the money. As for shipping, I just used the Japanese post office. Shipping was far cheaper back before corona virus hit. They shut down almost all international shipping for about a year, and I lost interest and motivation. The IRS hitting me with an $180k tax bill didn't help. Luckily I managed to get out of that with the help of a good lawyer.
Why don’t you try dropshipping and transition into a private label brand once you’ve got a winning product? Seems like you’ve got the marketing and networking skills to make an ecom store a big success
One of my key takeaways is you are supporting your partners for long term growth and gain, instead of burning these connections for a quick short term gain. This means you are looking at sustainability instead of growth through growth. Something larger companies fall short in. You’re doing great. Keep up with it.
This was an absolutely fantastic video - loved hearing the emotional journey, the adapt and pivot wisdom, and the experimentation with all of it. I appreciate you and your willingness to not keep these ideas and input to yourself.

My sister accidentally sold it at a yard sale because she thought it was supposed to go. Here I am 13 years later at 31. Been thrifting 13 years hunting that organically or for a deal. Thanks so much for the excellent video. We've been watching your channel since early 2020 and have loved seeing your journey. This overview is really well paced and with the useful detailed explanation of your direction of travel. So many important messages but what really comes through is your focus and dedication to support the wider retro-game-reseller community. Thanks for all the content and the inspiration you've given to my daughter as she's watched these videos over lockdown times and beyond - it has opened her eyes to future opportunities even if she does groan every time I repeat your "opportunity is everywhere" mantra. Wishing you and your family all the very best for the future and thanks for a great early Boxing Day (in the UK) video. Have a fantastic 2024!

The advantage of having a massive audience when it comes to building this app, I think it would be a perfect opportunity to have a $2.99-$4.99/mo subscription for people who actively try to recreate your business. This video was really well put together and enjoyable to stick through, which comes from your personality. Keep it coming!
Because of the huge ammount of reseller content available there is so many hands in the cookie jar. It’s so hard to find anything to sell. And if your buying collections they want so much and the margins are in the trash.
I was thinking because of her support and his dedication! Like it's supposed to be! They are team whatever their last name is!😂 Some times all it takes is a little support and someone to believe in you!
Thank you for uploading this video after watching your videos this whole year you really inspired and motivated me to start doing this. You’re killing it man. Keep it up, and screw all the naysayers. From someone who’s made $18k myself in the past 3 years between selling off some of my personal collection and flipping games, it’s great to see and learn the intricacies of what’s worked for you. Wish you all the best in 2024 and can’t wait for that app!
I remember being friends with you on IG when you first started, crazy how the dudes you tried talking into doing content with it refused and are just hustling raffles still
You are like a mentor to me. I appreciate the lessons. I love watching your videos on growing a business. I would appreciate any tips cause I have a bunch of video games cluttering my room.
I too previously owned a vintage video game reselling business. We were one of the first to do it on a large scale, along with discountgames, dkoldies and lukiegames. Unfortunately over time the margins shrunk to next to nothing because so many people were trying to do the same. I'm glad you've been able to do it successfully, good luck going forward.
How do you go about protecting your home address when selling on Amazon? Aren't you worried with all that inventory about your home address being public?
Extremely interesting video. It should be very inspirational to people nourishing a reseller dream. I just recently found your channel and so far it’s top notch. Loving it. Loving your business model! Best of luck in 2024.
as an avid gamer and collector people like you ruin collecting, just to make a quick buck by artificially inflating the market. You guys are the worst.
@@tasuperman8270 It's late stage capitalism now. It's reached peak greed. You think that items at the grocery store is all inflation? No, it's corporations using inflation to get way more profits to please their shareholders. People like him ARE ruining games and many other hobbies. It's becoming way out of reach for many people. And many are unable to enjoy it because they can barely afford basic needs. And that's why I believe it will eventually come crashing down.

I can attest to this, and to the people who think all of this isn’t worth it. Well guess what, a lot of people are just lazy and don’t want to put in the work.
It's so cool to see the channel and the resale business go hand in hand together. Can't wait to use the app!
Great video Caleb, really like the direction of your videos lately . Keep up the good work and good content !
There is no better LIFE lesson than failure. Are you able to rise to the occasion or are you going to let the failure kick you in the ass! So happy for your success and really appreciate you telling your story. And I can tell that you are genuine in what you are sharing!
What an awesome video! Thank you for the insight, ideas, and growth of your business. What an amazing adventure. I started watching you in 2020, and eventually started building my own collection by doing what you do. I have built an amazing collection and funded so many things by watching your videos and listening to your philosophy

This came at a great time. Been riding the struggle bus lately. Thanks for sharing man.
Usually I don't comment on videos, but this has been one of your greatest videos so far. Your story is truly inspiring! The app is an amazing idea, I can't wait to try it out!
It’s amazing how you also are reinvesting your money into other sellers and helping them is actually better for us all since they stay in business and give consumers more choice, thank you! We need more people like you in the gaming selling industry, keep up the good work 👌
My thoughts exactly. You took the words right out of my mouth. All the gamers help and at the same time they resell and help each other business and we get to update oir collection.
The Ultimate Hustler! Merry Christmas Caleb
This was a phenomenal video, Caleb. Thank you for sharing and compressing your fundamentals. I will definitely adapt all these things to my resell business as I move forward. :)
You’re story about trying to make it and being fired a few times, hit hard… watching your videos over the last few years, I didn’t see you as a failure or have failed… but to hear this and see your progress definitely hit home with sometimes your beat down and just gotta get up. I just lost my job last week and I’m in the same boat trying to provide but I’m also trying find myself / work wise, I love working on motorcycles and gained my own knowledge… I want to start my own little side business but scared… 👀 lol.
Thank you for the inspiration video!
Ive only really seen you in other UA-camrs videos and people in the gaming community like to hate on you. But seriously dude your story is incredible and what you are building is extremely impressive. Thank you for sharing. Got a few tidbits of motivation to start the week.
Nice to know that you flip customers.
Another great video! Love the transparency and detail.
Could you have done this without your wife? Since she kind of foot the bills?
You can be smarter than Elon musk, but you still need like 50k to 100k to start a video game reselling business
I was thinking because of her support and his dedication! Like it's supposed to be! They are team whatever their last name is!😂 Some times all it takes is a little support and someone to believe in you!
You’re hilarious but your humor flys under the radar for many i bet. Love the content man
Thank you for uploading this video after watching your videos this whole year you really inspired and motivated me to start doing this.
Thanks for sharing your story It's really amazing you started out with just $500! And look what it turned into. And you're wearing a Michigan hat my home state is a bonus lol.
I hope you and your family have a great happy holiday and a Happy New year. Again thanks!
Good for you man! This is great! Congrats on the success!!
Make sure and like this video..the edit almost ended my soul
Iv been buying and selling collectibles since I was a little kid and on ebay since early 2000's and still found this compelling and very informative and entertaining 👍
Remember guys as long as you have a wife that can support you while you grow your hobby, you can do ANYTHING 😂
more haters
You don't need anything. This is just an excuse again from someone who doesn't want to put the work in and just finds every possible excuse not to work hard
It's been great watching your journey and really blowing up the category congrats!
Do you pay taxes for every sale? Just curious, I have no idea how this work
Same here. And it scares me
Selling sites like eBay collect the sales tax.
Loved this vid. Your honesty is refreshing and a huge shout out to your wife. One smart lady.
It‘s easy!
Step 1: Buy 30 million worth of video games
Step 2: Sell games at 10% of market value
Step 3: No profit
Except, he’s making profit. So what’s your point exactly?
@@brian4180 hes lying
Well done man, well done. I appreciate the smooth nature of the storytelling + the cleanliness of the outline (that whiteboard)
You guys are the worst.
its called capitalism or nah. Get over it lol
Haven’t watched a video in a while. But this one was really interesting. I have no intention of reselling but it’s nice to hear someone talk about their story and not make it into a “buy my class” thing.
But the real question is.....do you ever play any video games lol?
Why does that matter? It's clear to me he's just a salesmen.
Is his channel called phoenix gamer or something?
Selling a Wii for 150 is fucking disgusting
Bravo I remember when this channel was a few thousand subs strong I always thought it was so cool 😎
Shady flipper.
This video is great man thanks for sharing! Merry Christmas king 🎅
You made that much by going to countless conventions taking all the good games at affordable prices and leaving nothing for everyone else lol
Womp womp
If your project (spoiler free) turns out as you expect, that can change the game for many people resellers and consumers alike. I'm very curious on starting a business but am nervous at this moment. Everything you've said has made a lot of sense.
This is exactly the kind of people I don’t buy from.. It ruins things for people who just wanna game and inflates the cost of everything in the market
I don’t get what you mean. Explain it please?
Wow that’s awesome! You are a true inspiration for those would like to start their a new business.
My wife just started in the journey of entrepreneurship and even though it’s slow, she is definitely enjoying doing the work every single day!
You coming out to the top in the end, gives us the motivation that she too can make that happen!
Thanks for sharing and allowing us to walk in your journey of your entrepreneurship!
ebay has ruined yardsales. People like this come through and just buy everything. Sucks for those who actually want to buy it.
Marketers ruin everything.
You can just buy it on ebay or amazon? No one forced you to buy games
@@esskeetitpump4165 Imagine being a collector and crying about collector's items being so expensive... Sometimes you don't need to understand them lol
Video killed the radio!😢
what's stopping you from buying it first?
whenever my motivation start to dwindle, ill watch one of these videos. helps to keep me going. just started reselling at the beginning of december and I have 47 sales so far. thanks kaleb (caeleb, Kaelub, caleb however you spell it lol)
Love to hear it!
I would not buy from you because you treat your products like trash and throw them around for attention on camera damaging them. NO THANKS.
Huge props on your determination and growth. I've been going back and watching your graded game unboxing's and was wondering what your thoughts are on graded games going into 2024. Take care and happy new years!!!
