In this video I try out the Grandpa's Goody Getter I got for Christmas on some black walnuts. I also show how I mounted it up simply to keep it stable.

Nice video, thank you. Can you list the details of the nuts, bolts, ratchet, and the drill bits you used to mount the cracker?
I used 1/4" bolts, length will depend on how thick of board you go through or how much you counter sink the bottom. I used 1 1/4" long I do believe. Quarter in nuts and washers which use a 7/16 wrench or socket (need socket if you counter sink like I did). 1/4" drill bit was used for the holes as well. You could do a 5/16 hole just to make it easier to get the bolts through. Hope this answers all your questions, if not, hit me up again. I appreciate you taking the time to leave the comments.

Works real good, I see you have a bench vise on your work bench. Have you tried your vise to crack your walnuts, my Father in law used his vise to crack black walnuts.
John, you know what, I never even thought of that. I bet that would work really well given that you can easily control the break. I'll have to try one just for fun now that you have brought it up.
I tried cracking walnuts w a vice. Everything just cracks apart
Hard to control it. These new walnut crackers seem much more efficient.
Have you tried other nuts with it, such as Brazil, almond, etc?
I have yet to try other nuts, however the 'leverage' is very controllable so I'm not concerns of over-crushing other nuts. I have planted some Hazelnut trees, and hope to plant some Almond trees this spring, be a few years before those produce anything. 2nd thought I did try 'standard' walnuts that you can crack just by putting two in your hands and once, and those were super simple to crack as you can imagine. But no non-walnuts as of yet. Thanks for taking the time to leave a question, very much appreciated.

Very easy as long as you give them time to dry appropriately

It may be possible to swap handle to the other side. I have not looked into that. Although works for me. Prefer my coordinated arm handle the walnuts while my left hand pulls the lever. Thanks for the feedback.
I have one for cracking hickory nuts and it works excellent. To answer your question, the handle can be threaded into the left or right side of the rotating shaft. I’m a lefty and have my handle on the right hand side so my left hand handles getting the nuts in and out of the cracker. And BTW, this thing is made in the USA. Well worth the price.
@@gregb.-sj5vp Greg, much thanks in the added feedback and answers. Very much appreciated. We had a bum year this year for black walnuts, only a handful from the 3 big trees we have on the property. Looking for a much better year in 2024.
@@TryNewThings I think that like every 7 years the trees dosen't produce I pick black walnuts and wild hazelnuts every year yes grandpa's good getter is goo have watch his videos on here all the time

I know there are better videos out there, but as long as I'm enjoying making them, I'll continue to put them out there.
I still think the hardest part is getting the outer green covering off.
certainly the messiest part for sure.
Roll a green one under your boot over a rock or driveway. Comes right off.
Let them dry to black- the husk will flake right off.
Looks good, but a a bit pricy. Might have to stick with a hammer for a bit XD
"Maximum crackage"......lol? Is that a Kentucky "term"? Not familiar with that phrase up North.....
Dave I strongly encourage you to fix that up there…. Not sure how you weave Maximum Crackage in a conversation around the best pizza ever made… but I think you can do it.
