Just change the orientation of the Ultra in settings where the buttons are on the left side. I did this to address accidental button pushes when wearing strength training gloves.
Thanks for the suggestion! I did this a couple times and found I was then pushing the action button. Maybe my wrists are just too prone to button pushing! Thanks for watching and commenting!
As far as the notification complaint goes, set up a golf focus mode that silences notifications. You could set it up to only allow phone calls from certain contacts. Great video.
Josh You’re wearing the watch wrong. The digital crown should be on the lower left, not the upper right. Goto settings, watch orientation, and change crown to lower left. It flips the screen and you wont have any issues hitting the crown. I was having the same issue and googled how to change. Hopefully it works for you.
That’s definitely an option, but would drive me crazy! 😂 My muscle memory would be way off! I’m so particular with what and how I wear stuff when I play I think it would interfere with the flow I’ve developed.
Fantastic. I've had my s62 for a couple years and love it. Was wondering if there were any compelling reasons to switch to the Apple Watch...looks like it's a 'no.'
Hi bogey king, nice vid. Is that trail watch band? How does it feel during your round? If you have other watch bands ( mountain and ocean) would be nice if you can do a comparison on them, thanks a lot.
Yes! That is the trail loop! It felt great during the rounds I’ve used it on. I should do an updated video, but I can tell you I’ve played with the ocean band and you can definitely tell a difference. It’s a lot more rigid and occasionally impacted my wrist during my swing.
I have the Apple Watch and use hole 19. I find it more accurate the my friends garmin. Sometimes he can be 10 yards off or so, not always. Might just be the hole. We know it’s the garmin because of where the stone 100y marker is on the course. I just wish there were auto shot tracking like the garmin and it’s a 10/10
Thanks for this video. I've been looking for a dedicated golf gps app for my wife's Apple watch. Bottom line the Apple watch stinks compared to the native sports apps on a Garmin and that deficiency is particularly noteworthy with golf.
Couple of questions…. Which is the easier device to use for golf Garmin or Apple Watch? If you had to choose just one of those 2 devices which one would it be? I have had the ultra in the past and right now am currently using the Garmin fenix 7 pro. Never used an Apple Watch to track golf so just curious. Thanks!!
I find it easier to track golf on the Garmin. It would be great if they would license their app to Apple so you could install their interface on the Apple Watch. Since the Garmin is designed for golf everything from the screen to the buttons work in unity to make it easy to view your distance and track your shots. I know a few people who use the golf app on their higher end Garmin watches and love it. I’d rather not use 2 devices, but I do. I’ve been testing the new Blue Tees Player+ as an alternative. So far it’s pretty good! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I just use the watch. It allows you to select the club after each shot and tracks the distances accordingly. I have some golf friends who use them and they constantly complain they don't track the shot or they track every practice swing, shot, etc. Since the watch allows you to select the club I don't think the sensors are worth the $ or frustration. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have a series 6 and use SwingU. I hate how the app constantly just stops running or I need to open my phone to "sync" it up. Does the Apple watch Ultra alleviate this issue at all?
I can’t speak for the Apple Watch Ultra and the Swing U app, but I experienced the same thing with my previous Apple Watches. That’s why I stopped using it even before I had the Garmin S62.
@@BogeyKingGolf I use The Grint on an Apple watch 6... They just did an update and that annoying app shutting down issue has stopped... Don't know if its fixed on SwingU but The Grint works awesome. Maybe another option for you.
Thanx for the video,. Had the S62 for a few years now and it is spot on...not convinced the AWU is the best..thank you..stop talking on your partner's swing😂😂😂
I believe it does. When you setup the app you can enter your clubs and your average distances if you know them. I think you then have to track each shot to begin to create your own averages.
Why not get one of the Garmin Fenix models or Epix 2 ($700-$1000) for Golf and Fitness Tracking? The built in Golf app works great (although I don't know difference between those and Garmin S62, except price $500). Also, does the Golf App you use on the Ultra ($800), track the yardage of your shots? Your first drive, you guesstimated 230-240 yards, but didn't say what the Ultra showed for drive (shot) distance. Garmin Golf will track all your shot distances (clubs need to be identified by user, unless CT-10 Sensors attached). I have no issue with the Apple Ultra, I really like this watch. However, the Fenix line (got my first in 2014 Fenix 2) would allow me to scuba or free dive without water damage worry. Apple didn't do this until 2016. Battery life was another Fenix plus, going a week or longer on 1 charge, while AW was only good for 1/2 a day or less sometimes (I know this first hand, since I got my wife the AW2 to track her workouts).
I know a couple people who have the nicer Garmin watches that also do golf as well. They work similar to the S62 as far as I know. It would be a good alternative if you still want everything in one watch. The app I used (Hello Birdie) on the Ultra will track shot distance, but you have to select the option after each hit. The S62 uses internal sensors to know when you've hit and automatically tracks each shot which allows it to build your avg distance and then suggest the correct clubs in caddie mode. If you don't have the sensors you do have to select the club your hitting, but it takes less than a second to do so. AI know someone who had the sensors and they register even on practice swings so he has to go in and clear a bunch of errant shots each round. He ended up taking them off his clubs and just uses the S62 now. You're also right regarding battery as it relates to regular Apple Watches. They would deplete after less than a day where the Ultra still lasts more than a day. However, the Garmin device would last quite a bit longer.
@@BogeyKingGolf Epix Gen 2 does everything the S62 does - this includes sensing the club swing. My main reason for choosing an Epix over the s62 is the AMOLED screen.
I've gotten used to the watch interface, but primarily use the web based Garmin Connect to look through my golf data. The app is ok. I should spend some time with Arrcos. I have a full set of sensors and haven't used them yet.
Well, I bought an Apple Watch Ultra 2, hoping to use it while caddying and playing, as it would allow me to just wear one watch instead of switching between a regular watch and my Garmin Approach S42. I used the "Golfshot" app for my GPS interface. Bottom Line: Epic Fail! While the Apple Watch GPS accuracy was just fine, compared to my Garmin watch, it was prone to activating the side buttons whenever I moved my player's bag, or grabbed the flagstick. One time my watch even called 9-1-1 when I bent down to read a putt. So, I sold the Apple Watch Ultra 2, and am sticking with my Garmin for playing and caddying.
Thank you for sharing your experience! Bummer it didn’t work out with the Apple Watch 2, but glad your Garmin still works for you! I wear my Apple Watch for everyday wear and still use my Garmin when golfing. Best of both worlds!
There are a few, but they are somewhat limited in functionality. A lot of these offer free versions and then provide more function if you sign up for their paid service. SwingU, 18Birdies, Hello Birdie to name a few!
Unfortunately the previous owners let maintenance slide quite a bit. New owners purchased the course at the end of last year and it’s been a complete transformation. They’ve done a great job rehabbing the course.
You do not have to keep your phone with you since the Apple Watch has built in GPS. In my testing it seemed to keep pace and provide accurate yardages with no or minimal lag.
