I grow tomatoes and different types of hot petters in containers on my balcony. The soil gets depleted from nutrients extremely fast so egg shells have been a saviour. To make the egg shells release the nutrients pretty quickly, i grind them in the coffee grinder and mix them in the top lose soil and water. If you see blossom end rot on your first tomatoes of the season, it is not too to save the situation for the next tomatoes that mature on the same plant. The ground shells have worked very well for me despite many people saying that you need to wait for a year for the shells to release its minerals into the soil.
Thank you for showing benefits of egg shells for its calcium magnesium & potassium content both for face scrub, plants, & birds, & chicken feeds. We need more videos to save the environment.
Baie dankie waardeer die video oor eier doppe. Ons gebruik dit al vir baie jare vir bemesting en n aanvulling vir die lê hoender om die eierdoppe harder te maak. Maar nie vir soveel ander raad nie.
When I was a little girl, I was rather poorly due to medical condition. I was seeing a consultant weekly and I just couldn't absorb enough calcium/potassium, it was recommended that I have a smoothie made twice a day (1/2 pint of milk, a whole egg including shell once washed thoroughly, vanilla essence, banana). I don't know if they helped me, but they sure were tasty.
I've been washing, drying, saving then grinding up my saved eggshells for years and then putting them in the hole as I plant my tomato plants. Good advice!
I had just started having contractions with my first child, the district midwife was called, it lasted from twelve midnight until almost six hours in the morning. The hospital was twenty five miles away but what she did was amazing, when she saw that the baby wasn't coming although my water broke. She got some egg shells , place them into a saucepan she then roast the shells, crushed them and made tea as soon as I took the last sip, my baby came out.
Thank you do much for sharing all those different ideas. What I've been doing for 8 months now, after I've used the eggs, I wash the shells and put it into a plastic bag. Once I've collected quite enough I grind them in my blender into a powder I then use the powered egg shells each time I repot my plants of whatever. I don't use bonemeal anymore as it's become so expensive. I store the powder in a plastic margarine container. It's really great making use of whatever you have....I'm watching from SA. 🌺🍀🌳
I've been drying, and grinding Eggshells for years for my dogs and cats as a supplement additive in their food.... didn't think of consuming myself... gotta try it.
after boiling your eggs in the pan for breakfast, make your cuppa tea from the egg boiled water as the eggs release lot of natural iron vitamin plus other nutrients all organic and natural
Nice to know I love my tea and will use my boil eggs water from now on. Thanks for the extra information, wow who knew. God bless those with great knowledge to share to a healthy us.
Add powdered shells to vermicompost. The worms use it in their gizzards to digest and make compost. Add crushed eggshells to tomato transplants in your garden. Stops blossom end rot. Add them to regular compost to increase plant nutrients. I could go on.
Taking turmeric daily, either in capsule form or in foods, helps to eliminate arthritic pain, including in knees. I use it everyday for this purpose. :)

I truly appreciate this video. It is rich with content. I never knew egg shells were consumable until now. My days of trashing them are over. Thanks a million.
Forgot to mention that it’s easier to crush them when they’re baked. Wash the eggshells, important unless you want a smelly oven, when they cool down they will really crush. I keep a tray in the bottom of the oven and keep adding to it until it’s full. Some of the shells are baked several times over the course of a week.
Just a couple of fact checked items that i can personally attest to, 1.slugs don’t care one bit about egg shells, snails will even eat them ! 2. Eggs shells do not compost quickly, i regular toss my clean egg shells in to my composter & years later they are still intact, they do however break up when i turn the compost & i always crush the shells now before adding them.
I have been using egg shells in my gardens for years and also in my compost heap, but tuning into this blog showed me many other ways to use my egg shells! Many thanks for this added information!
I remember taking a teaspoon of crushed eggshells with several drops of lemon juice daily when I was little, like 7-8 years old. Since I’ve got this video in my recommended section, I’ll take it as a sign and resume this healthy routine
I found a video from Dr. Ken Berry...and he and his wife save their egg shells, keep them in the freezer in a gallon bag, until they have enough. Spread out on cookie sheets, bake at lowest setting for an hour. I saved 3 freezer qt bags, crashed a little to fit more in the bag...which fit on 2 cookie sheets lined with parchment. After baking, I added to my Vitamix container, blended until I got a fine powder, although it still has some grit. But, I add a 1/2 tsp to my over easy eggs in the morning, placed in a bowl, then cut it all up and eat it that way. I even had a health coach sister from Bulgaria, now living in the U.S., say this "...remember doing this as a kid to give to one of our puppies that was born with crooked legs. Straightened them out in no time!"
I need more calcium in my diet so I am saving all my egg shells in the freezer and when I make my next batch of bone broth I will add the egg shells. I didn't wash them bc I will be boiling them for about 24 hours with the bones in my crock pot. I hope it helps to give me the calcium I need this way. Love this video
As your cat or dog get older they need calcium in their diet. Make a cloth bag and put in egg shells, beach shells and sun dried bones, and place it in their water bowl.
We have been using shells to scrub our pots and pans that are non porcelain and also our sinks. Shells are also crushed and used for vegey and fruit fertilizer for as long as I can recall my father using with coffee beans and left over skin peels of other fruit and vegetables

If you’ve set up a worm composter (you can make your own for free with a supply of used 5 gallon buckets from an obliging restaurant), occasionally sprinkle in some very finely crushed egg shells; worms need a little “grit” in their gut to properly digest your compostables, and any they don’t use will improve calcium levels in your compost.
