Thank you thank you at last someone else has looked at the skirt bottom and realised that the “ place on fold” is on the wrong side. Now I will make this garment as you have answered the question. I should have realised go with your knowledge. Love your dress it’s great.
Great tips - I've been doing it so wrong! I'm learning so much from you. I wish I'd had your channel back in 2014 when I first started using gouache. I watched a lot of James Gurney's videos, and they helped some, but I've actually gotten way more practical and useful tips from you. So now you are right up there with Gurney on my 'must watch' list! Keep those helpful and beautiful videos coming! And I plan on subscribing to your Patreon beginning in January.
Beautiful demo again! Do you find it necessary to have your paper/Previous paint later completely dry when you dry brush on top? I find that I also like the grab of tacky paint layers underneath, I can get a good texture that way (on cold press paper).
It depends! Like you said sometimes that "tacky" layer helps, and even with the dry brush you can still blend the new color into the underlayer a bit. But other times it is definitely necessary to wait for the underlayer to dry, like if you dont want ANY blending
@@SarahBurnsStudio I don't have gouache and watercolor is just such a different medium because of its transparency. I cannot put that many layers of different colors on top of each other I think. I would just love to see a comparison with watercolor which gives a similar look.
@@moma-b Ohh I see what you mean. In the case of watercolor, you can still do a dry brush technique. Think of it this way: with your first layer or two, you are only focused on "staining" the paper to match the color of the wood. If there are any light areas or reflections, avoid painting those since you need the color of the paper. Then after that dries, with a dry brush technique you can dust some darker colors on top similar to how I did the wood texture. It definitely takes some getting used to. I will do a video in the next month or two to demonstrate what I mean.
Thanks Sarah. I am growing in the desire to use more opaque paint using dry brush techniques. This video has been very helpful. Thanks again.

Thanks, Sarah! Is this generally your same technique for watercolor as well? I would assume it would be very similiar
More or less
What would be different, would you do this with watercolor?
What do you mean?
