Wonderful thanks to viewer Ryan and co-host Troy! Speaking of sailing lessons, Philippians: 2,3 "but with humility considers others superior." & Matthew :18,15 " Go and reveal his fault, between you and him alone." Yes, a touch of a stretch, nonetheless...two classy gentleman stood on the high seas! We, as in many, thank you both. Richard
Well looks like you stitched something together out of my nervous dribble haha was a pleasure having you guys not only on board but in Hervey Bay, thanks for the chats and UA-cam advice while you were here, there is always a spare car or seat on the boat whenever you guys need it. Legends 🤙🏻
Thank you for including us on your Whale Excursion with Josh. Very interesting learning there is a difference between Northern and Southern Hemisphere Humpback Whales. Very enjoyable watching your videos.
So cool reading though the comments and finding positive stuff, learning about Australian accents and so on. Can't say I have ever come across derisive vitriol here on FRS. Glad you could give Josh some exposure too. Stax to both of you good people.
Hi Guys, really enjoy your videos. They are very informative with plenty of sailing. They are also very inspirational. Your spinnaker, however, has been a topic of discussion mind you. I am sure is started out life as a conventional spinnaker and has been stretched into an asymmetrical spinnaker over time. The reason I say this is that it appears to have red and green corners on the clues for ease of setting up while in a bag or sleeve and secondly the panels appear to be stitched symmetrically down the centre of the kite. But, HEY, if it works, why not. Please keep the good content rolling.
Nice video again. The Whale Watching tour is excellent, even if you have your own boat, it's good just to relax and let some other skipper do the work. They reliably find whales too.
It was nice seeing Josh at work, I usually see him talking in his small white room or in his garage!! Excellent adventure, loved the whales and the music was so good. Thanks again! Nena California
Love your channel, we have so much in common with your boat and ours, (even though it's a Tri) she has the same motor, tender & motor and similar rig and we sail out of Brisbane. I think I have learnt more off your channel than any other, thanks for that. Our Asymmetric Spinnaker is marked port and starboard which never really made sense to me but it works. Keep on cruising, cheers.
I'd noticed the kite being backwards but didn't want to question it as I thought it must have been a conscious decision-for example through trial and error you'd found that it worked better in your particular case!
Im glad you have your spinnaker sorted our it was bugging me lol i notice you only have one sheet so it looks like you have to snuff it to gybe. It also looks a bit over trimmed when the wind is on the quarter.
I saw that marking too... however... when you gibe and pull the assi through, the colour markings are reversed... The Luff is longer than the leach, which is the difference between an assi spin, and a symmetrical spin... I think... LOL
Fascinating and informative;we sailed from Tasmania to the Daintree in 2017 and visited many of the places you have. I have enjoyed your meanderings greatly. Do you use your drone to help enter anchorages? I will be venturing north again in my Zeston 36 in the coming winter. If you come to Tasmania this summer, I would like to meet up and maybe share some great anchorages. Terry Mitchell
Can't help it, it's the middle of the night when the notification about this vid came, but I'm already watching. You've got some spectacular whale observations there! 🔭
Whistles and waving to attract the whales? Hadn't heard of that one. But music playing through the hulls is one I have heard of. The Hervey Bay Humpbacks are rockers as they do have a liking for AccaDacca (ACDC).
Red right returning to Sea. Always thought there was an international standard and glad to hear there is not. That and white underbellies of humpbacks learned today. Good on you guys.
Hmm...so asymmetrical spinnaker at a beam reach vs. main and jib? Time for me to research this. It was super fun to see your acceleration at the beginning of this vid.
I had spotted that maker’s label flying high, but I knew - I just totally knew - that you couldn’t have set it wrong. So I kept silent ... and wondered why Aussies do it differently. 🤣
Sorry, are you sure you have an asymmetric spinnaker? It looks more like a symmetrical spinnaker. You then have no 3 different corners: head, clew and tack. But only 2 different corners: head, clew port (red), clew starboard (green). Look at video (02:46min.). The symmetrical Spinnaker is normally used with a Spinnaker pole. During the jibe you have to change the clews. If you use your Spi like a Gennaker, as shown in the video. It doesn't matter at which clew (red or green) you attach the Gennaker sheets. So, I don't think you was totally wrong with you head sail configuration. 😉
Lateral marks - the IALA Region A comprises Europe, Africa, and most of Asia and Oceania, as well as Greenland: Port marks are red and starboard marks are green. Region B comprises the Americas, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan, Hawaii, and Easter Island: Port marks are green and starboard marks are red. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lateral_mark#/media/File:IALA_Maritime_Buoyage_System_Regions.png
We sure have different versions of winter sailing! You've a lot less clothes on, while its around 3 deg C here in Victoria, BC, Canada. Still getting out though. I notice you wear a bandanna or balaclava on your face; is this for flies? Or sun protection? Keep up the great work!
A viewer pointed the same thing out to Riley and Elayna (flying the Spinnaker upside down) on Sailing LaVegabondes 42 foot Beneteau....Riley's DAD didnt notice..but he gave Riley the business about it some time later. let us never speak of this again, hey?
I felt like I needed a tetanus shot after cruising by that old wreck and then I realized I wasn't actually there with you, so easily do you suck me in and make it feel like I'm right there with you guys. : )
So funny with the France men’s and their red/green opposite of the English. I’m sure you are right Pascal. By the way, in Norway it’s green one the right, going North and in the fjords. Fair winds ,,,/),,,,
Troy and Pascale - WOW, I love how u guys can sail so long and far on a 30 ft sailboat with such small quarters. I have been on many a boat and I do not think I could do it. And Pascale, you have it made being in such close quarters with such a beautiful girl with that melting Aussie accent. Love your channel will watch them all. Frank D , I don’t know of any on UA-cam going all that way. Maybe ask UA-cam by saying something like this. Sailing from Sydney to Melbourne ( I can all most guarantee you there are some as I have seen some) then put in Melbourne to Adelaide which is the Capital of South Australia. Hope that’s helps. I forgot and then put in Perth Western Australia.
That's the same 🐋 Josh that's building his own 52ft catamaran, give his channel some love here:

As always..at treat to look forward to! Thanks for your great content and presentation.
Those whales looked like they were enjoying the company.. amazing thanks for the footage !

Ah loved it. I know nothing about sailing so the spinnaker looked fine to me lol. Always good videos.
Thanks for the video guy's , love ya

The whales get me every time. What a demonstration of freedom... Finally...
Absolutely amazing video.

Wait, what happened to 20 minutes? That felt like 4 or 5 minutes! I cannot think of anyone I would rather end my week with than you two. Thanks!
The clews on your sail are port & starboard 👍
I saw that marking too... however... when you gibe and pull the assi through, the colour markings are reversed... The Luff is longer than the leach, which is the difference between an assi spin, and a symmetrical spin... I think... LOL
Great whale shots. And my iron level have gone up watching the wreck
Arrgh Matey..Another fine movin picture from our favorite sailors on the briney blue...Arrgh
Always enjoy your episodes, great footage on the whales very interesting area where you were sailing!
Great video, thank you.
That crisp and clean white shirt at the end of the video is what is wrong. That's nearly impossible on a sailing boat :)
Great sailing !!!

We use our Polaroid glasses. I think a drone may be ok once you're anchored to check swing room or find the best diving nearby

Great episode.
Excellent as usual!!!
I'll tell you what's wrong with this picture. I am not on the boat...
I don't think, this is a asymmetrical spinnaker. Red and green corner should mean a symmetrical spinnaker, which works the best wit a pole.
I'll tell the sailmaker he gave us the wrong sail.
Whistles and waving to attract the whales? Hadn't heard of that one.
But music playing through the hulls is one I have heard of. The Hervey Bay Humpbacks are rockers as they do have a liking for AccaDacca (ACDC).

Lovely- hope you really enjoy it and find the quality good. Ave a great Christmas
Cool guitar music.
Great episode, love the whale watching and the soundtrack
Hmm...so asymmetrical spinnaker at a beam reach vs. main and jib? Time for me to research this. It was super fun to see your acceleration at the beginning of this vid.
Just in light wind. Most people would fly the main too, but we use the assym to cut down on mainsail chafe against rigging.
I think it’s neat that more people would rather watch whales than fish
Love Love Love every one of your episodes but sometimes that Aussie ascent can be tough to navigate ;-)
Nah, I would listen to Pascale read a phone book. I love the accents.
Just a suggestion for you .... you can turn the subtitles on to help get you through the Aussie drawl :^)
@@dougsmith8971 Love the ascent too :-)
Nah mate, she'll be right in the long run
What accent?
It’s a little bit more obvious when you hoist a symmetrical spinnaker by the clew
I had spotted that maker’s label flying high, but I knew - I just totally knew - that you couldn’t have set it wrong. So I kept silent ... and wondered why Aussies do it differently. 🤣
Happy Thanksgiving .

Looks like a symmetric spinnaker...so does it matter which way around you fly it?

You have a tiny kite very short of the deck but good sailing
I know I've seen a global map with IALA zone A vs B somewhere. I thought it might of been NOAA Chart #1.

Thanks Miq, we'll pin it to help everyone out.
I know I’m going to regret this!, but why can’t we all do the same?
Or is it because water goes down the plug hole the other way round ?🙃
Can't remember it does go the other way…
Isn't it all a myth?
I thought port markers were always red but what changes is the side you keep them for port/channel entry and exit
Ha! Cheers mates.

Good sun protection.
There’s a British cannonball stuck in a wall near wear I moor my boat. That”s why its a different system from the Brits.
The only thing I could find wrong, was that the video was half as long as it should be!
How is your 30ft, full-keeler so damn fast?
I could watch the whales all day long!
Oh and you both , too!

Well you're having a whale of a time I see. Lol @ the sail being around the wrong way. I woudn't know the diff. cheers.
nice video thanks
