We wouldn't be anywhere near her with whitewater lol. It was definitely calm but we were surprised by the swell running, making us surf down the waves.
Thanks Judy! Our friends at Expedition Salt really helped with a different perspective! They made a video of the crossing also on UA-cam if you’re interested!
Geee, watching the Video I went from, "Your living the dream" to , not sure about the Fraser adventure. But an adventure it was. Oh and also Sydney Cup today.
Thank you for taking me back to where my hart lives. I married a Victorian and have now lived down here for twenty years. The last time I crossed Wide Bay Bar was in 1993. I miss Queensland very much.I had a house on Moreton Bay
Not bad guys... I did it 10 months ago, had to transport a 49 ft mono through the bar, down to brisie, the previus owner was lost at sea, and we had to bring it back, after the police was done with the investigation . Very sad, enjoying your videos very much, Hang loose 🤙 Mike
Fraser Island is beautiful. Its a shame you didn't get the chance to visit the other lakes and Eli creek. It unfortunately has been significantly damaged by fire since.
Man I love your videos , first class as always , I just left moreton today and came into manly for a few days to restock , just got hike from pub and sore on AIS you are in town 😎
@@sailingpopao I would love to , I’m seeing a band in manly on Sunday so won’t be out till Monday , I’m surprised you guys don’t visit kooringal , it’s like heaven in water I’ve been in there for a couple of weeks , I noticed some other sailing cats were taking off in tender each day with spear guns on board I presume to the Rufus king
@@sailingpopao good morning guys I’m directly in front of you , I am going to skip peel as I don’t feel like playing the swap Anchorage at night game with the storms forecast , I’m going to catch the tide at canaipa and run down to millionaire row and crab for a few days cheers have a great time
Ahh just missed ya! Will be hauling out tomorrow at Redlands then make our way down to the goldy ourselves, might cross paths soon! Good luck with the crabs, are the prawns still running?
That joint is paradise all right. Except for when mr power tripping fwit ranger comes along. Don't run n hide from aholes like that. Stand your ground and tell em how it is. cheers.
Middle of winter, I think about June/July from memory? Horrible weather 😂 we had the coldest night weve experienced the entire trip. About 8c in Bundy 😱
That note about not seeing reefs zoomed out is a terrible BUG on most chart plotters. It should always show you the shallowest point at any zoom, but it does not. Reefs can completely disappear. Overhead lines on Navionics disappear unless completely zoomed in. Very bad design. Aircraft maps always show the highest obstacle, what you want.
Yes I'm yet to see a chart plotter that doesnt loose the detail when zoomed out. I guess because there is just so much info there it has to cut stuff off at some point.
I found a stray puppy dingo on Frazier island , and kept him . He’s bitten my girlfriend twice , she may have deserved it , the jury is still out on that one .but he’s a good dog, he’s 10 now. . Just don’t leave him alone with chickens , he ate my entire roost of chickens , all 15 of em, but he really is a good boy
Depends where you want to get to but it’s at least additional 30nm detour and pretty nasty around the breaksea spit. If it’s too rough to cross the bar it won’t be very nice going around the top.
A Ranger is not a cop, he / she / it, has no legal right to ask you anything, do not speak to these little tin god bureaucrats, except to tell them where to go and how to get there.
The bar was calm, Would like to hear her if there was a bit of white water on the bar
We wouldn't be anywhere near her with whitewater lol. It was definitely calm but we were surprised by the swell running, making us surf down the waves.
Thank you for taking this old man back to Fraser.
Anytime mate, hope we did it justice 👌
I worked at Kingfisher Bay Resort and the island will always be known to me as Fraser Island 😎
Looking forward to the reef. Needed a nice quiet sail after that bar crossing to settle the nerves.
Cheers we can’t wait to share it with you! The straights ate beautiful, flat water sailing and a good current with you if you time it right 👌
Great episode. What a beautiful destination. Thank you
Thanks for watching! It is an amazing place!
Thank you for responding back. Congratulations on living the dream. So many talk about it but rarely do.
Thanks Don it has been a goal of ours for so many years, it’s so easy to get side tracked. Very proud we just clocked over 3000nm in Popao today.
Lake McKenzie all to yourselves, that's gotta be a once in a lifetime thing!
Yeah totally!! Insane huh, so, so lucky!
Yeah definitely was the silver lining to covid, we had lots of places like that this season!

It was a bit of an adventure! Cheers for watching!
That ranger should have given you guys a ride back. He was silly.
Yeah he gave us the opposite to a lift, he made us run even faster 😂
Great work guys - good times !! LOVE FRASER

Hey Andrew yeah we love it! Just clocked very enjoyable 3000nm under the keels.

Haha sure it! Yeah the ranger definitely was on a power trip that’s for sure!
@@sailingpopao Don't think they were a government ranger. Ute was too old for gov vehicle. Just a "Resort Ranger" enjoying the authority I'd say.
What month was it filmed (warm clothes)
Middle of winter, I think about June/July from memory? Horrible weather 😂 we had the coldest night weve experienced the entire trip. About 8c in Bundy 😱
That would have been stressful running back
Haha definitely was an adrenaline filled adventure, full of stress and blisters 😂

If it's that bad why don't people just sail around the island?!

Navigation lingo “chuck a left” 👍🏻
