Of all your Deep Dives, this has been by far the most enjoyable! Charlotte Moss brings such richness and honesty to the conversation without any pretentiousness. She spoke on several take aways which have for me anyway, validated my decorating direction. A sincere thank you Dara and Charlotte!

I’ m Southern, have at least 17 full sets of china, but- I’m not young. I gift my niece with vintage glassware.that she adores ! The youngsters, I feel, are embracing food & the importance of creating atmosphere & memories by honoring their guests & by making things special. They aren’t all zombies.

She is amazing! The notecard holder on the dining table!!! Fabulous. I'm a book lover too. I am "younger"ish and am a China collector. I use it just as she does. Again, thank u for this!

Wow, what's not to love about Charlotte Moss. She is so on point with younger generation that really does not care about this stuff. I have a house full of lovely things, but alas no housekeeper. I also am the custodial grandmother of six. I listen to all these shows and try to learn from them. I so wish I could spend just 10 minutes with her and ask her for a pep talk about how to manage things with these six children. Truly, I wish she would put together some hints for the middle class. I do know that at least my grandchildren are surrounded with clever beautiful things. I come to certain musts--everything has to be lovely. I even cover the matchboxes. All the dog covers and assorted debris of life is overwhelming, but I think the devil is in the details. I have a lot of antique tureens. They hold the soap, the sunglasses, the facemasks. When it comes to eating---nothing matches on their day to day china, but it is all lovely stuff--english ironware, limoges, and lots of those handpainted German plates, ok it is all put on the dinner table together. I throw out periodically all the chipped pieces. I save my good sets for company, and have separate sets for Thanksgiving (brown and red transferware). My rule is make sure that everything is lovely---even our dogs have great dishes. The mess is so insurmountable sometimes as I work full time, but I do believe that these details contribute to the home.

I agree with Ms. Moss. It's about emotion for me. Mood.

Interesting, good content. However, I found it distracting that the two images shown (of Dara and Charlotte) were not the same size. Charlotte seemed to be in miniature!

I bought a LOT of china to mix and match, depending on the amount of guests coming. I plan to rent out the china for special events so it gains me an additional income when I have facility rentals in my new garden and gazebo, sunroom.

    She 'makes 'collections' for people'???
    Really???
Because they don't know what they like or want, or have any interest in???
Or they have no idea what 'should be' collected???
I had a boss, and the wife, who had an apt assembled by one of Chicago's best architects and the architec's architect/designer wife! ( Hint, hint!)
The couple who owned this $17,000,000 apt had no taste. No design style. No idea of who or what they were, so they relied on the architect and his wife/business partner to guide them 'to the correct pieces' to collect!
The 'collection' was God awful! Such a misorganized mish-mash of stuff that had no theme, no organization, no over riding focus. This couple, from Iowa, was grasping for status, relevance and 'gravitas'. Which eluded them, esp as soon the son took over the business and ran it into the ground. The stock went from $68+ to a mere $.24, per share! The $3.5B fortune plunged to a few million, if that. Meanwhile the Pritzkers, Crowns, Harris', et al, all abandoned them! Oprah was a neighbor! On a lower floor, of coarse!
Some in their building thought it 'was cute' that a black woman had earned herself $800M. With a TV show!
Indeed!!! Meanwhile there were others in the building who had been born into great wealth--- $3B, $5B, even $10B! And so someone earning $800,000,000 was considered 'cute' ! My boss, and most of the rest of the people there, had no idea who Oprah was, did, or what she represented!
Should I ever run out of energy or inspiration or creatively I will hire a decorator to help 'edit, organize and unify MY COLLECTION! Not tell me what to collect or where there are 'holes'.
There is plenty here to work with! It needs pruning, editing, limiting, rotating, organization.
But it does not need ideas on what to collect. Nor do I need to hear about what is current. Antique brown furniture from 1400- 1860 will always be wanted, collected and needed. Whether it is a period piece or an antique, with contemporary, modern or an eclectic mix--- great style and design will always wear well!!!
And if the same person collects all of it, it will always go together! It will have a central theme! Because it appealed to the same person! It might just need some editing or organization.
But the idea that someone will or would make a 'collection' for someone else is just very bizarre!
GO MAKE YOUR OWN COLLECTION, OF WHATEVER APPEALS--- TO 'YOU' !!! HAVE YOUR OWN 'TASTE' !!!
    YOU CAN NOT BUY 'TASTE'.
    DONT EVEN TRY!
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! OR TIME!
    CHARLOTTE'S TASTE IS CHARLOTTE'S!
    IT ISNT YOURS!
GO DEVELOP YOUR OWN TASTE AND STYLE!!!!!! IT CAN NOT BE BOUGHT!
BECAUSE IT WONT EVER BE AUTHENTIC TO YOU!!! OR WHO YOU ARE!
