This one’s helmet design is now one of my faves.
It's really cool, and it's got a Smiley Face printed on it.
I've got quite a lot of FansHobby stuff, including their take on G1 Power Master Optimus/Ginrai, but somehow never realized this one (and their G1.5 Thunderclash) were effectively retools of that figure. I'm more attached to the Thunderclash version as it was a toy I really wanted as a kid but somehow never managed to get, but I think this one looks pretty neat as well.
Getting the truck cab to slot into the trailer for combined bot mode has always been kind of a pain with this mold tho.
Yeah it sucked. If you notice it was for most of the video not attached properly because when I went through the the whole Rigmarole of combining and transforming him and taking him apart, to write the script, I just couldn't get it back in place properly.
Watching the drawn out diagram of how the best wedges into the arm gap almost made me spit out my coffee, the shaking of anger in the wedges as you explain it feels like every time I've ever explained why I hate something rolled into one, therapeutic!
I'm glad to hear that it got you so good. I've known for like a Full year that I wanted to do that to illustrate the problem here.

If this helps, as a fellow Machine Eagle owner, you can extend the bottom part of the front truck grill in the combined mode and then attach the chestpiece. That way, the piece itself fits a bit better
I did not know that. I always thought it looked like that part moved, but I tried a bunch and just concluded that it doesn't move.

every time that partforming plate piece flew off the figure, i literally had a sudden sharp reflex reaction in my jaw, like a flinch or something. it felt that uncomfortable. it must be really frustrating in person
Oh it's so much worse in person. I didn't catch a lot of it on camera, but that's just because I knew to structure my shots around avoiding it. It is constant and unbearable.
Most people I’ve seen usually get this guy to have a big MP scale Powermaster Prime in their collection. Most don’t care too much about the other modes outside of the main combined mode.
It’s clear that this guy was mostly made with the thought of “we need to find a way to retool this guy to look roughly like this other guy as cheaply as possible”. Quite the shame, as having a version of that character that isn’t suffering from GPS would be neat.
I mean I feel like they could have come up with a better way to peg it on without changing anything, just by making the partsfroming piece not stupid.
My jaw actually dropped seeing the wedge pegs, dude must have been in a coma designing those
and to add insult to injury, atleast Dai-Atlas's noodle holds the torso and legs together atleast within an inch

Hey perspective I don't know how often you hear this but I just want to say I enjoy your content ever since I first started watching, I find your content and review style just find it refreshing, how unfiltered you can be which leads to some funny remarks and that you interact more with you audience, it's nice to talk to another TF sometimes as it kinda feels like a niche thing because when i talk to about it non TF fan's they assume the terrible bay movies which kinda sucks but it's nice to be part of community with other fans here which reminds me I still can't get over the wheeljack joke where I commented wheeljack more like dealin crack and than you replied wheel jack more like kidnapping kids in back.
But yeah just wanted to get that out because your cool dude and one of my favourite creators and just wanted to get it out incase your having a bad time.

Yeah, it was hard but I got it out for *THE WEEK*
I considered "super" mode to be a related but distinct from combiner technology. With a combiner you have to seperate and independent robots, complete with their own alt-modes you combine into a large robot with no alt-mode. With a "super" mode you have one complete independent robot with his own alt-mode and then an "accessory" which usually isn't a "proper" vehicle and doesn't have a robot mode. They do "combine" together in the literal sense of the word but not in the Transformer sense of the term. Then on top of that some "super" modes have a "hyper" mode, such as Apex to Powermaster Prime's "super" mode. They related technologies but not the same.
All of this is fair, but does that mean I have not Cheated? Because the point of this week was supposed to be guys who were just Inherently Huge.
Obviously this isn't the most accurate representation of this character (he's not supposed to have a super mode and the base mode is WAY bigger) but I understand that Fans Hobby more tries to emulate the character and for that, excellent job guys!
I mean as a Retool it makes sense, but damn what doesn't is how PHONED in the Retool Aspect is.

I almost contemplated getting the Thunderclash version of this figure a few years ago, but passed on it since it was going for $300 on Amazon. Your review has dissolved all my regrets due to this figures horrible QC issues, especially that chest plate that wants to fall off an become an actual plate. lol Keep on being amazing.
I don't know if that's a QC Issue or them just being insane. Like it's not like there's a good working version of this.

I forget what third party figure it was but I have seen reviews of some third party figures that have their weapons designed to be held in the same way this figure does, and honestly I'm really surprised it hasn't been done more, Its great.
in addition to fans hobby, make toys thunder manus has a similar way to hold weapons. dunno about their other figures as thats my only one.
It's funny that a Different Power Master Optimus Prime holds their guns the same way.

Great review, I kinda liked that it was a bit all over the place and random and legit I don't remember you raging this badly. Toyworld Constructor probably made you a ton angrier and you cussed a lot more, but that rage, shouting and voice crack... I loved that 😂

In the last 3 years or so I always thought that the base bot modes gut was a deliberate design choice because of how out there it is.
Man I just can't get behind that. There's no way you do something that hideous as an intentional act.

I actually have a sealed Machine Wars Optimus as the centerpiece of my collection. I may have no connection to Machine Wars but he was only like 70 bucks.
That's pretty cool. And unlike Thunderclash he doesn't have GPS so if you ever did open that up, it'd still be in working condition.
I want a commander class thunderclash, his design is pretty cool.
Also something very small that always annoys me, thunderclash and the others from that era are g1 characters. They were released at the end of g1 (outside of America) and then a few of them were rereleased in g2
I don't know that he needs to be a Commander Class, unless they went ALLLLLLL OUT on that Trailer. It BETTER have Spring Fired Missiles if they do.

From 1994 until 1998 Power Rangers had the peg hands to fit their weapons.
I had those figures, and I remember how the hands worked, but I don't think they had these slots like this.

Machine Wars definitely had a unique cool factor to it, that I kind of want to go back to.

Hey, you got the one I recommended to you a couple years ago, I personally love mine, especially combined with the God Armor (apex armor)
Btw the partsforming piece works really well for my figure so it's probably a qc thing, and the core robot is supposed to look like that for Ginrai/ core bot Optimus

I used to own the original power master optimus way back before I seriously collected figures and I ended up giving it to goodwill, oh the pain.

From reviews I've seen, their Powermaster Optimus/Super Ginrai "Power Baser" is pretty decent...I'd personally wanna get the full God Ginrai set repainted in orange & red as Fire Guts God Ginrai (and I completely forgot their name for that repaint, not that I know ever bothered to learn to begin with). On the other hand, hawt diggity DAYUM, that price!!😮😮😮 Shiiiiiit...I'll just be good with the Takara Transformers Legends LGEX God Ginrai...
However...that large head for the Machine Wars Optimus is fuckin' siiick!! Fans Hobby should consider selling that part by itself for folks who want the previous versions of the mold, in respective colors according to each version (original PMOP, black Nucleeon Quest Superconvoy, red/orange Fire Guts, purple Shattered Glass, etc.)
Yeah that price is brutal for a Partsforming Piece like this.

I own the Machine Wars Optimus (I’ll re-review him within the next month, have some newer stuff to get through), and I just got this recently from a friend of my channel. I DO like it, but my hands hurt, and GOD DAMN THAT CHEST PIECE. UGHHHHHHHHHH

Would you say the engineering for the chest piece for this big boi is the worst thought design? Or is there something worse?
It might very well be the worst thought out thing I've ever covered. The only thing that gives me pause on that is because it's not a Ground Up design. This was designed after the original figure without being able to change that OG figure like an Upgrade kit.
This would be a lot less excusable if this was the base form of the mold and it was thought out this bad.
Though why they weren't allowed to change the base tooling is beyond me.
Darn, and this weas one I kind of wanted, too. Well, maybe we'll get a Legacy version, since they've already done his Decepticon counterpart Skyquake.
Yeah hopefully they put out a Machine Wars Optimus in this line, or at least a Thunderclash who they can retool into a Machine wars. But yes this guy is just infuriating.
@@PerspectiveEnd Skyquake in MW Starscream black and silver is my big want, but MW OP was ... well, theoretically cool. A lot better if the front/wings could fold up into samurai shoulder pads like the fanart I drew back in the day - entirely doable, if a little fiddly, basically just have the windshiled fold or slide down in behind the grille, then rotate the whole thing 90 up and back along the rotation axis of the shoulder if there ad been a shoulder joint to begin with, and fold along a hinge near trhe wheel ell so the half-grille ends up facing upward on top of the shoulders, with the wheel well/fender segment behind them. He'd still have been super squat proportions and have a chin worthyt of TF:Animated, but at least the arms wouldn't be stuck inside a pair of wing/shells.
If they came up with a missile-launch base mode trailer to use Crimbo Prime as G2 Hero OP it could work for a Thunderclash/MW OP trailer as well, the same way the ER OP trailer was put on entirely separate sprues for ease of reuse. I'd still rather see the cab sold as a VOY and the trialer a separate DX-equivalent via Generations Selects or something like that, at least as long as it's on the general online distrobution network and not a store exclusive, or at most an Amazon exclusive that basically everyone in the world who wants one can get anyway.

Man, I wish Hasbro would do a Machine Wars Optimus update sometime soon. Heck, why not redo all of MW? We’ve already got most of the right molds (Kingdom Mirage for MW Prowl and Mirage, Evolution Scraphook for MW Hoist and Hubcap, Evo Skyquake for gigachad Starscream, Selects Rotorstorm for Sandstorm, TR Hardhead for Soundwave) to retool into the main characters, so why not make that the next Amazon-exclusive subline?
The entire rear of the HISS tank can Fuck off cause it's losing this contest.

own a few fanshobby products myself and next to MMC and Maketoys they are my favourite 3p company. Their boxes even the big bois are not space hogs, their prices are not always wallet destroying, hell even THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICES is SUPERB. I personally feel their name really reflects, its not some of collecting obligation or pretentious declaration of owning something; its a HOBBY, something that is FUN

@@PerspectiveEnd after this project I believe their next combining optimus they did was the armada prime which i own and is my personal favourite 3p toy for its presence and my aforementioned fun factor the company does seem to pride themselves in. The only annoying thing about that thing is the connection tabs on combined modes upper torso takes a HERCULAN strength to tab in and might not be the most posable thing out there given the design
It’s so funny cuz I have the fanshobby g1 power master Optimus and I adore the core robot mode but one day when I was messing with it I put it in a cool pose and left it there for a minute and the left arm exploded like the spring broke the ratchet area on the arm and now I gotta keep it in combined mode permanently

The Machine Wars Prime design really speaks to me, so this figure gets a pass purely by merit of being the only modern rendition of that design, official or otherwise (another 3P did a repaint of IDW thunder clash but the designs are so different). That being said, its definitely a flawed figure, and one that I'll probably replace if Hasbro ever decides to acknowledge MWOP someday. One nitpick - the truck mode is actually (seemingly) based on a real truck, just one that is apparently more popular in Europe. If you search for a Scania flat-nose cab you'll find examples of trucks that look remarkably similar to this one.
I mean maybe the Grill is based on that, but in general that back half is all toy.
And yes that's why I bought this, because it's a Cool Prime Design, but man is this a flawed version.
Man, Fanshobby’s early toys kind of sucked… I don’t know if they had a fluke or just legitimately got better, but their Armada Prime and Megatron don’t reek anything CLOSE to this. Sure, they are heavily stylized and a lot of people reject them for that, but they retain just about all the play function of the original toys whilst still keeping a modern transformation and poseability.
…okay, the Armada Prime has a severe Build Quality issue on its first run, but people were sent replacement parts and newer runs of the figure don’t have that issue anymore…

Im just saying i did not notice the chest gap until u pointed it out. I just thought that part was colored Black. Even when u pointed it out i didnt really see the problem. Tho My eyesights not the best and i did grow up with lego Hero factory figures (yes lego used to also do buildible action figures look it up) and a lot of the internal components on those were Black and they sometimes had a few gaps like that so maybe im just used to it.
It's a lot harder to visualize on camera since it's a 2D image, but in person it's so visible it hurts.
