Track 01: The Package
________________________________________
Clever got me this far
Then tricky got me in
I am what I'm after
I don't need another friend
Smile and drop the cliche
'Till you think I'm listening
I take just what I came for
Then I'm out the door again
Peripheral long the package
Don't care to settle in
Time to feed the monster
I don't need another friend
Comfort is a mystery
Crawling out of my own skin
Just give me what I came for, then I'm out the door again
Lie to get what I came for
Lie to get just what I need
Lie to get what I crave
Lie and smile to get what's mine
I am what I'm after
I don't need another friend
Nod and watch your lips move
If you need me to pretend
Because clever got me this far
Then tricky got me in
I'll take just what I came for
Then I'm out the door again
Lie to get what I came for
Lie to get what I need now
Lie to get what I'm craving
Lie and smile to get what's mine
Give this to me
Mine, mine, mine
Take what's mine
Mine, mine, mine
Take what's mine
Mine, mine, mine
Lie to get what I came for
Lie to get what I need now
Lie to get what I'm craving
Lie to smile and get what's mine
Give this to me
Take what's mine
Mine, mine, mine
Take what's mine
Give this to me
Take what's mine, take what's mine, mine...
Take what's mine, take what's mine, take what's mine,
This is mine, mine, mine (whispered)

Gollum! Gollum!
Everything Maynard touches is gold.
So true
Even underage girls?
His penis?
Maynard is one of a kind artist that cannot be categorized!
Aaron Swink Those were just allegations. Hearsay, women make up shit like that all the time, it’s a stain on the #metoo movement where women were actually trying to find justice for what was done to them. That bitch was just trying to ruin his career
Pet, Noose, Package.. there is nothing like this three out there

...speaking from personal experience, that feeling of "crawling out of one's own skin" is by far one of the worst feelings one can go through.
couldn't have gotten through rehab without this album. thank the lord for aperfectcircle and TOOL
maynard is an atheist so fuck yer 12 step.
Darth Aardvark Lmao. That was hilarious but good for you Emily
Just bc I went to rehab doesn't mean it was a 12-step program, so: fuck yer assumptions. &Thank you very much, badwinkles.
Aaaand just so we're on the same page here, I was so fucked mentally when I got to rehab, I couldn't even make the CONNECTION to the title of this album and a 12 step program....as pathetic as that is to admit, it's the truth. Along with the fact that It was solely the music and lyrical genius that is Keenan that pulled me through the abyss. But I (&i'm sure Maynard does, too) appreciate you caring SO MUCH about his thoughts and beliefs!
a song helped you? Realy? If thats the case than a smurf could have helped you.
if you buy that 12 step program than you are a fucking idiot.
this song still gives me the chills like it did during a tough period of my life
makes me remember the pain of the past...
What doesn't kill you, MAKES YOU STROWnGer
Or maybe, stranger? I can dig it.
maynards songs almost always have multiple interpretations, that's why he's such a great lyrics writer.
I never knew this song could be about drug abuse - not till I read the comments
Be obscure and nonspecific, people will be able to interpret whatever they want
drug use and one night stands is what i get out of it
Maynard is the best vocalista i've ever heard, jesus fucking christ
My daughter had an internship at a music festival and they were headlining....she was assigned to help his assistant! Lol, she was in awe! She said he was very quiet and wanted no interruptions before the show. Just like we would imagine him to be, a very private soul very serious about his work.
I feel the same about the drummer too
he truly is in a league of his own. i was 15 feet from him on stage at a Puscifer concert back in may, was my childhood dream to see him like that. He is an enormous presence.
Irie D- Danny Carey has him beat by FAR.
Him and Eric Johanson are my favorite vocalists. Look up Liberated by Emptyself and you'll see Eric's talent
APC is its own genre. Known as a band with actual musical talent. They're amazing. Know their instruments. Know, in detail, how to make something a total masterpiece
"Drugs got me this far, addiction got me in".. Pill and Heroin free since 9/5/19 🙏
I'm proud of you. I am. Life is better than the craving.
that's great. 10/31/05!

Keep going bro
In rehab for the black and booze right now. First day of 30.
Josh Freese is such a phenomenal drummer!! So individualistic in style and tone, unparalleled technicality. Amazing studio performer, even better live.
Amen to that. So sad that he's not in APC anymore. Jeff Friedl isn't bad, but there's just no comparing them.
Dominant Seth: unparalleled technicality
Danny Carey: am i fucking joke to you?
Mike Portnoy: Danny's right, you're deaf.
Neil Peart: Did he really just say that?
Pick Withers: Obviously we're not wanted here.
Joey Jordison: come on, guys. Party at my place. Seth isn't invited.
@@AenimalCannibal985 are you imagining you're friends with those guys lmao.
Definitely not. Don't read too deep into it. Simply stating that although freese is great, there is much better out there
@@AenimalCannibal985 I don't need to read deep into it I don't think thats even possible considering how stupid the comment itself is ahahahahha. Seriously consider thinking before posting shit like that dude

Merrin Guthrie he is a true Artist in my eyes no One will ever be able to complete and or completely defiet his style of music I am a dedicated fan 2the End
It sounds so sexy
As a man going through na/aa. This album claws at the path of an addict (for me).
The reminders it brings of all the shit that comes with addiction. its very empowering and does help me with the strength not to relapse,
iciousvid It’s beautiful and empowering music. 🙏🏻
Drugs are good mmmmkay,??

I love what the rhythm guitar and drums are creating in this epic piece. And Maynard, damn straight brotha. From a drummers perspective I have to say this song is brilliant.
I love you
This has got to be the bassiest rock song known to man.
TheTreeman Primus says hello.
CunningCondor Primus sucks.
Then I'll guess you'll be glad to hear, Tool and Primus are touring together right now, along with Coheed and Cambria, in my town. I guess Tool doesn't think the same as you, because they respect Primus. but whatever :)
Eric Nightraven
Nobody tell him.
+TheTreeman The Red Hot Chili Peppers say hello.
Don't know if he knew an addict or was an addict but damn this album has some things to say about it
I love how calm there music is then boom!!!
Perfect song to go along with Tool’s “Sober”
Perfect opener and tone setter for a masterful album.
This whole album is a masterpiece like a few we will see in our life.
i stood in line the day it came out.
❤❤❤❤
I think this song has a different meaning for everyone. For me it reminds me of a relationship that left me felt used.
Sad dude but your not alone I been there too :/
to me it almost describes the world of business. eye on what i'm after, lying and smiling to get what I want. not needing friends because they will hold you back...but, it also sounds like a drug deal/robbery.
I heard this live and it was incredible. It feels spiritual listening to Maynard live. He pours himself into his music deeply and brings his audience with him.
Josh freese is a amazing drummer. one of my favorites , I love his style of drumming.
Legends Never Die 420 - He’s got more originality than almost anyone else. I posted a similar statement about him as well. He’s got incredible tone, unbelievable technique! He’s been my biggest influence in percussion.
Imagine this song with a basic 4/4 rhythm. You can't. Josh Freese is one of the reasons why this album is amazing. (and the previous one too)
Agreed. I saw him play with APC twice during this time, and he stood out even amongst all the other talent in that lineup.
timing good for this man
@@gclend33 funny he was in the vandals...a polar opposite band to apc...a sort of melodic punk joke band...think blink182 who don't suck
One of the greatest songs of all time.
Probably my favorite song on the album. I have never had any issues with drugs, but this song really reflects the life of an addict.
me manipulating my way into the pentagon to steal their supply of shredded cheese
Yup. The whole album is about the various stages of addictions, and all the songs are from a different perspective. This one is about the addict doing anything to get his fix. Blue is about dealing with the aftermath of an overdose. The Noose is about how once an addict beats their addiction, they feel on top of the wold, but shouldn't forgot all the hurt they put themselves and others through, etc, etc. Maynard explains all this in the band's DVD Amotion.
I love the break down at 4:54 in the song, shit gives me goosebumps.
Shit is hard as fuck
"Clever got me this far, then tricky got me in" relatable, once you figure it out you really gotta fake it to survive.
Different faces for different people. It's all a fucking act, no one shows their true self because everyone is terrified of doing so.
@@yohanscold2149 This. We all have a shadow, we just learn to deal with it.
This album Maynard sings of addiction from multiple points of view. We have lost so many great and talented people who short changed us on the influence and impact there lives could have made . The lives they could have touched and ultimately have changed.
This is my "EARWORM" for today. For some reason I woke up with this song in my head
no better way to start your day
a good choice
Never had an album hit me as deep as 13th step.
When an opening track is this good, some might worry that the rest will not be as good. No worries here, though. That bass line just sets up the groove to get you in the mood for the rest of this spectacular album.
this song is on a whole 'nother level.
Indubitably.
Typing ' takes more effort than typing "a", just sayin.

An absolute monster of a song
(Their songs have a kind of sadness and desperation... they're beautiful and terrifying. «3 )
Dark love
Probably because this song is about addiction and addiction is a very sad and desperate state of being. He conveys it so beautifully.

it never goes away no matter how many times i listen to it!

The Package is a great name for anything. A mission, a song, a brand of cereal.
I could cry to this song, this is one of apc's best music though

Powerful song on every level.
Beware of psychopaths. They never look or act the way you would think.

I'd consider it a fan favorite, always been a top song for me.

possibly dopest breakdown of all time, transcends metal
this whole lp is about addiction and the spiral a person goes through while basking what he or she considers the glory of the pipe. maynard went through the 12 step program for it, and his 13th step was the creation of this masterpiece, hence the title.
I am so so glad that i was lucky enough to see them and tool multiple times. what!!!! what wonderful poetry and delivery.
reading the comments it seems to me that their songs are like the rorschach test. everybody sees something else in them.
Everybody sees something else or their own projection, somehow.
But there is an *actual* meaning to the song. I don't get how anyone can listen to this and NOT get what it's actually about. It seems pretty blatantly obvious to me. And the album's title sort of gives it away too.
That's just what Maynard does. Be it intentional or not.
Iahve Six indeed, Yet another referral to regret, memories of this I wish to forget, the day of pass is soon here, understanding is sadly my only option, the details of your lifeless face, blue in shape, cool the waters, not so swift nor thrifty the tides, you're missing everything and everyone, me too, I only know what to say how I say it without obviously ignoring observation of I'll intent to these slim wrists again, hiding three thoughts of a single mind, one here, one there, one left behind in the medow benieth a big stone, so earthy...i should just make myself at home...thoughtless messages can't be well wasted and tears of such magnitude are less than tasteless

Good lord. One of the best songs ever.
One of my favourite albums...
Really helps me to relax after a bad day.
One of the best written albums I've come across. It's all about alcoholism and the concept of the twelve step program, where after treatment the thirteenth step is often suicide.
I'm an alcohol in recovery. This album has special meaning to me. I don't ever want to forget the hell I've survived.
@gabedoesstuff1481 I wish you a successful recovery. Your life is only going to continue getting better.
The 13th step refers to experienced AA members making sexual advances on new members. Not suicide.
I've been building speakers, thrifting for steals on older high end gear, binge-learning how audio works for 13 years now and I could never get my favorite band to sound right. It's finally juuust right and I can't stop listening to everything Maynard XD
Austin Kuipers I bet at those thrift sales you had to...
"Lie to get what you came for" and
"Lie to get what you crave" and
"Lie and smile to get what's yours" and then said "give THIS TO ME!! Mine, mine, mine" lol
Is that how you got it just right?! Good on you though really. It sounds like you've probably got it absolutely perfect after all that. Nice. I grew up in the 80s/90s so I know there are some incredibly good speakers/audio components from back then that would've cost a small fortune during those times (thousands back then just for really high end speakers alone). I'd absolutely love to have a setup probably like yours but I don't have the time/patience/knowledge at hand...hmm maybe I'll delve into that though. Now you've got me thinking. For starters, what are the absolute best high end speakers to start with in your opinion (for Maynard sound perfection) and where and how much can you find them for if you're lucky?
greeenpro "shitty sound was all I see, in my infancy, other peoples used shit then came to me, yay that sound"
Maynard is the BEST underrated rock singer from the '90's & the 2000's 🎧🎤🎸
This song gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. It's as if it was about someone I used to know, or at least I thought I did.
This is so seductively narcissistic and raw. Love this shit
That bass is so fuckin sick! God I love this band!!
This is a terrifying reflection. Love it. Never thought I'd become this type of person when I first listened to APC in my early teens
That bass riff is like sex
but better
You ain't lying. I'm in a APC tribute band, and I am studying this song and the bass line (I play bass) is f***ing righteous! SO fun to play and I literally mediate while I am playing it. That and the song Gravity (the name of our band, BTW) the bass lines just satisfy the hell out of me....
TheMills567 are you on youtube i will check out the band if so
Hey thanks Carrie. We are getting our stuff dialed-in. We haven't put out any vids yet. BUT, keep on the lookout for Gravity. That is our name. We are from Nashville. Thanks!!
TheMills567 ill keep an eye out for sure keep me updated where i can hear your music
it's about addicts we are nuts
keep coming back to this brilliance
Almost 14 years clean
This song could refer to anything that one will either; hurt or deceive another person to get. To me, "The Package" is used as a verb in this song that describes "a showing of" .. an ambitious nature called desire: drugs; of substance, of sex, of power, of money, etc.
I would permanently deafen myself if I heard this song as loud as I liked.
I watched my battery gauge in my truck dip to "dead" and bounce back up when the bass was hittin. I'm not sure if it was because how high I had the volume or if it just hits that hard and I finally noticed.
I only came accross this song literally just today. "Comfort is a mystery, crawling out of my own skin" got me looking for this song.
One of the hardest, coolest songs ever. Builds to an awesome climax. Loved since it came out.
maynard is a poet his songs do not have one meaning they have many and are art that are to make u think
