From India. Love the way you constantly keep evolving your channel into what it is today, with these extended interviews, exploration of musical styles, music theory lessons... Thanks for everything! and i hope you have a wonderful day with your loved ones.
I use Cakewalk (free). PC: Intel i7-8700k, 32 GB RAM, ASROCK Fatal1ty K6 motherboard with USB-C (thunderbolt), 1TB M.2 ssd Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe, multiple other ssd hard drives. Audio interface: Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 with 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt-3 cable. Microphones: Shure SM7B, AKG 214, Cloudlifter CL-1. Mixer: Yamaha MG10XU. Studio Monitors: 2x PreSonus Eris 5. And you could bring Barry Harris, Steve Wilson, and Neal Morse for sounding off.
As a guitarist who's recorded/mixed and mastered at The Warehouse, Sterling Sound etc, my most popular song over 1 million youtube plays was recorded, mixed/mastered in my apartment on pro tools 8 LE, core 2 duo pc, cheap edirol monitors & $100 headphones. Vocals done on old u87 into preamp, mixed with TONS of plugins, all software mixing no hardware and NO guitars or "Real" instruments. All soft syths built into pro tools. The idea and dedication is the key. A one man band can do it with F/All & my singing is below average. No-one "Whistles" an SSL 4000E or a Neve 1073
"No-one "Whistles" an SSL 4000E or a Neve 1073". YOU DON'T KNOW ME! Jk, comment is spot-on. It's the song/music that people should be obsessing over, not what tools they're using to make it.
Would love to see John McLaughlin on your show!
Yes!
Totally!
Happy Birthday! Thank you for the great lessons!

I'm about to go back to school to get my Masters in Sound Design. Coming from an undergrad music degree and being out of school for several years this video was super informative! This is only the second video that I've seen of yours (found you through the Adam Neely interview) and I'm looking forward to watching more videos!

Happy birthday Rick! Wishing you many, many more. We need a "Beato Online Music University" before your extensive number of videos get out of hand. I've seen your playlists, and they are good, but I hope you're planning something even bigger, and more organized. Every video you post is like finding gold for us musicians. Thanks
Happy Birthday from Michigan.
Fantastic show. I love this stuff.

Happy Birthday Master! Great advice as always!!! Best regards from a Venezuelan in Italy!
Good video. Logic comes from C-LAB Creator/Notator suite. Then it was Emagic, then Apple bought it. Protools was Digidesign, obviously.

Happy Birthday Rick - Greetings from Izmir Turkey :)
Happy Birthday Rick ! I am enjoying your channel a lot, might take you up on the Skype lessons.
We have a saying down here that says: good music sounds good even on AM radio. Here is my suggestion for keeping priorities straight and putting more effort onto the initial links of the audio chain: music > musicianship > instrument > recording space > monitoring > microphone > preamp > converters > DAW. Whichever item is not sounding good needs to be fixed before considering all that lies to the right on that list. Thank you Rick for all the work you do.
Well if the music isn't good, they aren't even in the studio being recorded :)
Rick Beato. don't be a snob we're impressed and trying to learn.
Loving your show..Love your speakers also..
Happy birthday. Have a great day!
Yay, REAPER gets a mention!
Happy Birthday Rick!!!
For those browsing the comments. We got a Soundcraft Ui24R mixer for live applications, but I started using it to record us in Pro Tools, and have never been happier. The Studer Preamps and monitoring options/patching are a dream. We've never sounded better. I experimented with using a Presonus for live shows and to track with, and the difference is night and day, will never go back to any presonus board for anything. Caveat: stay away from the low end Soundcraft boards like the Ui12 and 16, they are not made the same way as the 24, and they are noisy garbage. The 24 is the best sounding A/D convertor I've ever used. And that includes Focusrite and Apollo modules, and just the analog warmth of the Studer pre's is worth the $1000 we paid. Being able to have up to 5 different stereo headphone mixes and have my mix as well was a game changer at the price point.
Hi Rick, invite cory Henry for me the hammond in the background.
Thanks from the netherlands
Happy Birthday from Rick(y) Caruso , Hey, don't forget its also Prince Spaghetti day gotta go have some Pasta fa zoul in your honor. Keep up the great Lessons there is no better ok maybe there is but I never found em. Its the way you teach and explain things that makes you the best !! Have a great Birthday & many many more. Amore '
Happy Birthday Rick!
Happy Birthday Rick! I would love to see Trevor Rabin on your show. I think he'd be a great fit for the topics you present, i.e. his work with yes, guitar, composition, film/tv scores ... Thanks!
David Lambrych that's a great idea! I hadn't thought of Trevor. I will work on it!
Wow. When you mention Radiohead's From the Basement sessions, I didn't realize it was 10 years ago. Time flies.
Happy belated B.day. Greetings from Puerto Rico. I would like to add a few notes to what Rick said. Consider buying used equipment and instruments. That goes for computers also. Support mod services such as Revive Audio and Black Lion among others. Be frugal, and concentrate on creating quality work. Education trumps gear any day. I am certain Rick can take a pair of Shure Sm57's, Mackie preamps, and an iPhone app, and create a kickass record.
I always buy used!
Happy birthday Rick!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY RICK! 🎉🎹🎼
Happy birthday Rick!
Happy Birthday! Couple of guest suggestions. Richie Castellano for his guitar and gear experience and on the classical side, Valentina Lisitsa...the great up and coming Ukrainian pianist.
That's why i´m still using a Mac Pro 5.1, with 64Gig Ram, SSD for OSX, two 1 tera Hard disk´s in RAID 0 for samples streaming. BTW, I love your videos!

happy birthday to you rick all the way from Nepal :) you're a big inspiration to me :)
I used Sound Design/Sound Tools/Pro Tools and Logic for over 25 years until a couple years ago when I moved to Reaper + analog gear from Cranborne and WesAudio. Between the two changes in the Reaper DAW and analog gear, my studio mixing/mastering revenues and quality of sound creative options have both doubled. Period, and I am far from alone. With all the muscle memory and basic knowledge invested in Avid software, I was not initially interested in switching to Reaper. However, I am SOOOO glad I did. It has rewarded me creatively and financially many times over!
Reaper is the best because it is a project of passion, the programmers are retired you know they sold nullsoft to aol in 1999 for 80 million... that's why every update is with care, they are basically retired and it is a hobby for them.. you can tell, every time they need a bug fix it is out the next day, Reaper community is the best online for learning as well. Do you use Reaticulate? a lot of reaper users do not know about it, and if you are into orchestra libraries you need to be using this.
Happy Birthday and many more.
PS Happy Birthday Rick!!!!
Have a Great Day:-)...
Happy Birthday Rick from Thailand
Happy birthday Rick! greetings from Spain
Hey Rick! Absolutely love your videos! You do such a good job of taking the musician's perspective, being practical and current with what the questions are that we're all asking. Thanks for that! I wondered if you would cool with sharing your template for PT key commands in Logic that you talked about in this video? I'm currently a student online at Berklee in a Logic class, and I would love to learn those key commands as opposed to having to learn two different sets. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Happy Late Birthday wishes Rick! from France!
happy birthday Rick!!

Happy birthday Rick! I would like to know if you also gonna do videos about acoustic treatment. If I remember right you talked something about it in a video. I think it's a super important subject specially for people on a small budget. Thank you and greetings from Argentina
Logic, Digital Performer started as midi sequencers and added audio in the 90's. Protools started as an audio recorder and added mid.
