    I was heard that most funding goes toward the MTA. And they needed the money to upgrade stations, add elevators on subway lines, and add new lines/replace train cars.

  • @alexshih3747
    @alexshih3747 19 годин тому +1

    There are valid criticisms of this, but imo the main reason people are hating on this is because they don't understand opportunity cost. By waiting in traffic, people were already paying a toll, but it was a time toll rather than a money toll. If you spend an extra 30 minutes waiting around in traffic, that's 30 min you could have spent making money at your job instead. Assuming NYC minimum wage, your lost earnings due to congestion come out to at least $8.25 per day. At least with the $9 toll, that money can actually be used by MTA instead of just being thrown away. Also, the noise reduction is great for people who are hard-of-hearing and the pollution reduction will be great for people with asthma.

    They put up the cameras they had to make the money back at least, and then some.
    for me to haul my family of 4 into Manhattan for any events it's still cheaper to drive compared to taking the transit , assuming I am able to find free street parking (which is plenty on Sundays).
    The actual limiting factor for drivers like myself is the ability to locate free parking among the traffic, with congestion pricing it might even be easier.
    The people who this is actually hurting are those who has to drive in on a daily basis to commute. For businesses they might just raise the price a bit but for wage workers they would just have to eat the cost.
    Another side effect of this is that this disincentivize people from Queens to take the Manhattan route when travelling to New Jersey directly. Prior to this it is cheaper from Queens residents to take the Manhattan Holland Tunnel route than taking the Thogs Neck and whitestone Bridge. With congestion pricing people should just take the whitestone bridge to save on time.

    Hi, Action Kid. Congestion pricing will not reduce congestion or traffic. The people that have to drive into the city, below 60th street, will continue to drive. And people that don’t already take public transportation, won’t just decide to take the subways or the buses. The funds collected will just get squandered by the MTA.
