Spurrier still at Florida. Maryland still in the ACC. Maryland ACC champs. Dam things have changed. I was only 10 when this game happened. Now I'm 27. Where'd the time go?
I fell like I am going to cry every time I watch this gamenot just because it is the HBC's last game at Florida but because I think about were Gator Football would be today had Steve not left after this game. we would have more then 3 National Championships and more them 8 SEC Championships Steve is the greatest Gator of them all
I remember cheering for those Terrapins all season long. They had an awesome to watch fun season. When they were matched up against this Gator team I remember thinking 'oh no' as I knew their great season would be ruined. I believed that even when Grossman was suspended for the first half.
Born and raised a gator, had the misfortune of growing up in los angeles, but travel back every year to watch my gators. I remember watching this game too, wooping it up all night... what a great team and coach... question i have, between gaffney perez caldwell and jacobs, it shocks me no one had a huge nfl presence. I know caldwell played for a couple years, and did ok for the chargers. but, how is it possible none of these guys truly became nfl stars. I still dont get it. Really shows how great Spurrior was.
Absolutely. And do blelieve that Tebow was the greatest PLAYER that the Gators have ever had. But I still think that Spurrier is the greatest Gator period. Nobody did more for the program than him.
Not only is the game sad because it was Ole Ball Coach's last as a Gator, also that douchebag Brock Berlin would lead a comeback to beat Florida two years later against Miami.
It's sad because Grossman should have won the Heisman, they should have beaten Tennessee, and they should have been playing Miami for a national championship. The '01 Gators are the best team in Florida history to not win a title.
@@RobbieStacks90 Before the Tennessee game, Darnell Dockett intentionally injured Earnest Graham, who missed the game against the Vols -- probably a huge factor in that one. As for Berlin leading a comeback against UF -- he didn't -- Ron Zook led that comeback.
That's all true...But that UT game was postponed because of 9/11 tragedy..If we had played Tenn earlier like it was scheduled, we probably would had won because Graham was healthy at the time...Tenn was banged up with injuries early that year....Sucks that we didn't though...Oh well...still good times
Yea...now that u listen to it maybe Spurrier knew deep down that is was time to move on from the Gators...we should of won national title that year too...that was a hell of a team we had
Well... should have is a little much. We should have beaten Auburn and Tennessee, and we didn't. So we didn't deserve it. Had we beaten UT we would have been fine. SEC West losses by themselves are harmless. It's when they're combined with other losses that they become a problem.
After some up and down yrs vis 98-2000 the fun and gun resurrected itself nicely with 2001 and Rex really should have won the heisman. Defense was talented as well. A lot of draft picks and NFL careers but not a lot of great careers....which is surprising...
Florida and Nebraska weren't conference champions in 2001..Rex Grossman and Eric Crouch were very good that year..Nebraska only lost 1 regular season game..Florida lost two in the regular season..That 2001 Heisman vote was very close..Nebraska started 2001 season 10-0 and had a better run that FloridaEric Crouch had to carry Nebraska more than Rex Grossman carried Florida..Rex Grossman had the great WR in Jabar Gaffney..Eric Crouch had less weapons to throw to and ran all over the place ⁉📙🏈🏟
Florida rarely has top flight NFL lvl talent on the Offensive side of the ball...but...just about every year Florida puts 15-16 players on offense that could start for any D1 program in the country...
I'm not sure FL loses if Earnest Graham wasn't hurt for those two games. Canes and Miami were the two best teams in the country. It might have been the best Canes team ever.
The terps had a solid team that year but were way outmatched talent wise, especially in the secondary. I think two key things could have helped keep the game in reach momentum wise and that is maryland punching that int in for a td and novak making that fg. Still wouldn't have beaten florida though. I still think that florida team was the best team in the country that year. That wr corps was unbelievable.
How Maryland was ranked #6 ...? lol. Sure. They had a great season. But, in order to be ranked that high, I really think you cannot give up 50+ to any one, all season...Which they did...to FSU. A team UF beat by 20+ a month earlier...
9/11 robbed college football fans on top of all the other things it took. Florida plays UT that weekend they end up in the title game. Then you have a UM vs UF top talent vs top talent match up. Maryland plays Nebraska in an option clinic Orange Bowl and all is right in the CFB world.
I never liked this BCS Game matchup ⁉📙🏈🌇⬛Maryland was a conference champion but a rookie to BCS games..Florida wasn't a rookie and a true football school..Maryland is a basketball school..Florida had some good talent in 2001 with Rex Grossman, Alex Brown, and Jabar Gaffney..Florida finished 10-2 and #3 in the Polls..
Spurrier still at Florida. Maryland still in the ACC. Maryland ACC champs. Dam things have changed. I was only 10 when this game happened. Now I'm 27. Where'd the time go?
considering spurriers contributions as a player and coach... it's safe to say he is currently the greatest gator walking the earth.
I’m sure some gators in the Everglades disagree...

I forgot Maryland used to have normal-looking uniforms
I remember cheering for those Terrapins all season long. They had an awesome to watch fun season. When they were matched up against this Gator team I remember thinking 'oh no' as I knew their great season would be ruined. I believed that even when Grossman was suspended for the first half.
Was that the last time they were good?
Was happy to have attended this game. What a fun team to watch!

The Olde Ball Coach, don't leave us Steve! Gator nation still loves and misses the greatest Gator of all time.
ya..he quit 2 days later!
Man I loved watching Grossman play QB. When he was in the zone there was not a better QB in college football.
You're welcome you're welcome you're welcome
I'll check. I have some highlights saved, but I'm not sure I have the telecast.
Terps simply got OUTCLASSED,should have never accepted the bid for this game
A great send off to the greatest Gator of them all.
This was an epic bowl game,Maryland really thought they wanted some of the Gators, lol,in reality they did not
Not only is the game sad because it was Ole Ball Coach's last as a Gator, also that douchebag Brock Berlin would lead a comeback to beat Florida two years later against Miami.
Why did he leave Florida? That is crazy that he beat his former team.
It's sad because Grossman should have won the Heisman, they should have beaten Tennessee, and they should have been playing Miami for a national championship. The '01 Gators are the best team in Florida history to not win a title.

Zenigundam you honestly think they had a chance against that 01 Miami team?
@@RobbieStacks90 2012 gators are way underrated IMO. Mullen. Spurrier, or Meyer would have won a title with that team pretty easily.
Maryland might have had a chance with Berlin in there, but once Grossman came in, the Gators hit another gear.
Florida lost 2 games that year by combine 5 points. OUCH! Tennessee 34 Florida 32, Auburn 23 Florida 20.
Jamal Greasy Miami would have been favored, but Florida would have given them a much better game than Nebraska did.
My two favorite teams met. My favorite team dominated.
No worries. I appreciate you checking.
For some reason...I dont remember this game..
Of course, Swannie didn't ask the most important question to Spurrier: "Would he back next year? Who knew? The Gators haven't been the same since.
That's all true...But that UT game was postponed because of 9/11 tragedy..If we had played Tenn earlier like it was scheduled, we probably would had won because Graham was healthy at the time...Tenn was banged up with injuries early that year....Sucks that we didn't though...Oh well...still good times
It's hard to say that when you remember that Tim Tebow was a Gator. One of the greatest, no doubt.
Tim never coached though.
Yea...now that u listen to it maybe Spurrier knew deep down that is was time to move on from the Gators...we should of won national title that year too...that was a hell of a team we had
@flash 22 This Florida team was easily better than Oregon. Miami, now that would have been a great game.
Thank you Thank you Thank you
Btw, you wouldn't happen to have the 2001 Florida Florida State game, would you?
Well... should have is a little much. We should have beaten Auburn and Tennessee, and we didn't. So we didn't deserve it. Had we beaten UT we would have been fine. SEC West losses by themselves are harmless. It's when they're combined with other losses that they become a problem.

Guess you smoking dumb dumb weed..after 8years..
what a shame, md was good that year. florida was just insane on offense. they lost twice how?
Really Great Tennesee team and a really windy night in Auburn.
Oregon was probably the best team in the Country that year.
LALMCGatorsfan didn't realize that oregon was good in 99-00
LALMCGatorsfan was rich brooks or belotti coach?

This game is poetically sad.
Gator's been dinning on Turtle's for thousands of years. This year was no different...
I remember a fan is heard saying "Fuck the fucking gay, gators" lol
I do miss seeing the triple option
that was a sad day in gator nation because it was the HBC;s last game at UF
Lucas Mann I think OBC sounds better
@14:13. who knew it would be the last time...:-(

of course that td before the half as well.

Oddly enough, on the road, the UMD - FSU game was tied at the end of the third.

I miss Coach Spurrier at Florida, he is Florida football.
florida vs Georgia 2001 game
Exactly.

That's how fla..run games should be under.....MULLENS
I still think it was a joke Maryland got here lol
Xavier Andrews sec homer, lol
Xavier Andrews they won the ACC that year
They only lost 1 game that year and it was to Florida State so they deserved to be there but had no where near the talent Florida had that year
Bull shit they have Percy Harvin,Caldwell,Cooper,Gaphney, hell even Tebow won a little in the right sytem in the playoffs.
they played trash teams like North Carolina
Yeah. Still doesn't matter. That's the ONLY time they were ever that good since.
