Hands down the best team ever in college football. Look at their roster: Andre Johnson, Sean Taylor, Kellen Winslow II, Antrel Rolle,Jonathan Vilma, Jeremy Shockey, Jerome McDougle, Vince Wilfork, Willis McGahee, Ed Reed, Clinton Portis, Frank Gore
I remember watching this game and thinking, "This is the fastest team I've ever seen." They made Nebraska look like they had no business being there (they didn't) but they showed it was a clear mismatch.
Husker fan hear. I don't wanna argue what team was better this team or the '95 Nebraska team. All I can say is that this game could have been a lot worse. I think Miami could have scored another 3 TD's. Class-act by Miami.
you just dont see college teams with this much NFL talent, not only the starters but the backups were also future pro bowlers. sean taylor, willis mcgahee, kelllen winslow Frank Gore along with at least 3 hall of famer's in Andre Johnson, Vince Wilfork and ed reed
Andre Johnson, Clinton Portis, Willis Mcgahee, Ed Reed, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow, Bryant Mckinnie, Vernon Carey, DJ Williams, Johnathon Vilma, Vince Wilfork, Phillip Buchanon, oh and Frank Gore Sean Taylor and Antrell Rolle were on this team as well just true freshman and didn't see playing time.
It's not hard to argue the 01 Canes as the greatest. You might add that the 00 squad was just as good. A lot of the 01 Canes were 2nd string. Either way Miami should've and could've easily hung 70 on Nebraska. They were robbed in 00 and 02. Miami should've been a 3peat Nation Champ cementing them as a dynasty
Honestly, As a FSU fan, Miami is the only team in college football I wanna see get good again kinda how FSU is now. I think they'll get back up there in no time. The history of the program has I've always respected that. It'll be dope seeing FSU/Miami in the top 3 or top 5 squaring off.
Zabrain Adams maybe overreaction, but top 5 for sure. So many moment in the rivalry that just takes your breathe away. I rather see Miami-FSU on rivalry then UF-FSU. That just my opinion. This is coming from a VT fan.
The game was over before it started we all knew it...should’ve been a 3 peat got robbed the year before in 2000 and a horrible PI call in 2002...🐐 team of all time not even a debate
Boy, I tell you. Is all you need to hear when it comes to the canes! Been a fan since the late 70's will be a fan until death comes knocking on my door and says it time to go now!
As far as I'm concerned, this is the best college football team I've ever seen in my lifetime as a football fan (probably started watching football in '91, at 7 years old). I was personally at this game and I simply couldn't believe how Miami just dominated. Granted, Nebraska shouldn't have been in this game in the first place (Oregon should have), but Miami would have rolled over Joey Harrington and Co. just the same.
Oregon might have given Miami a much better game, but I think just about everyone agrees that Miami was well deserving to be crowned champion this season. I'm not a Miami fan, but I will give respect where it's due.
I will never understand how Nebraska got in this game after what happened against Colorado. Oregon vs Miami would have been a much better game and a true national championship. Nebraska didnt win their own division let alone their own Conference. Oregon won the Pac-10 and should have been there. PTL we dont have the bogus BCS system anymore.
No one would have challenged Miami on a neutral site in warm weather that year. Now if we played on the road in snow, we could have lost, but Miami would have KILLED Oregon, Colorado, or LSU. This team was the most loaded team in history (e.g. 43 players drafted, 17 first round picks, and 47 pro bowlers) and we were so HUNGRY.
Drew Maglio I dont disagree with that, but it is still an honor to play in that game. It is not an argument over who would have won And seeing what Colorado did to Nebraska PROVED Nebraska was not one of the best two teams in college football. CU had more of an argument to be there even with 2 losses because they won their conference and division. Two things the huskers could not say. I just dont understand how 1 loss team who did not win their conference got to go to the national championship over a 1 loss team who won their conference.
Thanks bro for bringing back the memories of what the U is truly about. Don't even bring up today's Alabama team in the presence of '01 UM team. Who the hell is gonna cover Andre Johnson and Shockey? Who gonna stop Portis? Kellen Winslow is on special team!! No quarterback or RB will survive against that sick D. Grown men amongst boys on the field.
I was listening to a Radio show about 2 years back and Joey Harrington was on it and they talked about this hurricanes team. He was the QB at a VERY good Oregon team that year. You know this 'Canes team was good when the former Ducks QB when asked if they could of beaten the 'Canes team replied with anything can happen on any day, but if we played this 'Canes team 10 times. they probably would of won 9 of them.
I just love when seeing a starter on offense or defense plays special team, example at 4:40 with Andre Johnson. Those players would do anything to get on the field and get some action!
Still, it's interesting to see Miami beat nearly every powerful rival they ever had during their glory years in this one season. Florida State, Penn State, Nebraska, Syracuse, etc.
I’m a LSU fan and I don’t know if we woulda played close with Miami they would score at least 45 on us our defense was not there yet like in 2003. Our offense was decent but would get shut down by this Miami defense Saban was still just building LSU into a powerhouse and still getting his recruits in so I don’t think in 2001 we was ready at all for this game it woulda been embarrassing if we played Miami
GENERALSPARTAN27 how good was Illinois in 2001? I was 2 years old in 2001 but I still don’t think we could compete with Miami but we only beat Illinois by 13 points I mean our defense was not there that year but the 2019 LSU squad could definitely best this Miami team
For all those people saying that the '95 Huskers would beat the '01 'Canes...just no...no they wouldn't. Did the '95 Huskers have 17 first rounders on the team? No. Did the '95 Huskers play back to back weeks against top 15 opponents in which they won 59-0 and then 65-7? No. Were the '95 Huskers ahead by 34 points at halftime of the national championship? No. And even if you say that the '95 Huskers were more dominant consistently throughout the year which you can make a case for just remember that if they played this 'Canes team head to head they would have to deal with an enormous talent disparity which I do not believe they could overcome.
Yet the 95 Huskers dealt with teams that had great defenses that season. And for the record, every opponent that Nebraska played that season that was ranked, Kansas State, Colorado, Kansas, and Florida all finished in the Top 10. The only team that was in the top 10 for this Miami team was Nebraska. Sorry but if 95 Nebraska played this team, they would have their hands full. Coker only won the title with someone else’s recruits. Osborne would out scheme, Coach Coker.
The huskers blew out Kansas State, Colorado, Kansas, and Florida who were all ranked in the top ten. Miami nearly lost a game to Virginia Tech, while the closest someone ever got to Nebraska was 14 points. You are drinking paint thinner.
This was a strange season. A lot of teams were in line for the NC against Miami. In fact Nebraska was originally in line to play them, lost big late in the season then sat back and watched every team ahead of them lose to put them right back there again! It's almost like no one wanted to play Miami, can't imagine why.
2001 was a weak year for College ball...Miami had one of the most talented teams ever, but even playing a weak schedule (#22)...They almost lost two...They underperformed or had bad coaching. 2001 Nebraska wouldn't even crack their own top 10.
You almost felt sorry for Nebraska in this game. They were not only going up against what was basically an NFL team, but three potential NFL Hall of Famers (Johnson, Wilfork, Reed)
Oregon and Colorado were both more deserving of playing in this game. Neither of them would have won but they would have put up a better fight than Nebraska did.
The team speed from this Hurricanes team was absolutely ridiculous!! Couple that with all the future NFL HOFers on the team. Best college football team of all time. This is coming from an LSU fan also.
Everybody can argue about the 95 Huskers being the best among other teams. LOOK AT THE ROSTER THAT ALL THE GREAT TEAMS HAD AND NOTHING COMES CLOSE THE THE 2001 U TEAM SORRY.
thndrct218 yeah but that slow ass developing option, even with Tommie Frazier and Lawrence Phillips and Ajman Green wouldn’t be able to handle the speed of Miami’s defense.

I'm a Gator fan but I gotta give it up, this team is undoubtedly one of if not the greatest team in college football history. I mean this team was fucking LOADED; Ken Dorsey, Andre Johnson, Clinton Portis on offense and Jonathan Vilma, Vince Wolfork, Ed Reed on defense.. pure domination.

+Paul Robinson N, you're ridiculous! Miami didn't just send 17 first rounder in 3 years, they also sent QUALITY players!! That team could have beaten any team in the NFL!! How many teams (NFL) do you know of that starts 17 first rounders? That's right, there isn't!! Miami players are NFL ready when they go to the pro's!! So, why don't you tell me why that's a stupid statement?? Don't forget the second and third round picks either! Miami puts out more NFL ballers in such a short time that all the scouts try to stay there! That's the only place for them to go!!
could you imagine if we had Twitter when this game was happening??? I’m a FLORIDA GATORS fan but i promise this is the 00-02 CANES are the GREATEST collection of talent ever seen with 01 as the GREATEST College Football Team ever assembled. Vilma’s hit on 85 Red🤦🏾♂️🙈🙈
They polled the college football analysts and experts a few years ago, and the only team of the last quarter century majority voted to beat the 04 Trojans was the 01 canes.
I don't care how good Alabama is today the canes set the pace as the best college football team in History period! Alabama just a reincarnation of the Canes.
best collage team EVER!!!! look at the talent that didn't ever start. the great sean taylor. greatest safety ever . none since as dominant. ha ha dix? joke
+I lee, don't overlook that team from 1986!! Man, was that a great team!! But we choked on it, big time! I actually cried after that loss, and couldn't watch any sports for months after that game! That 86 team and Big Jerome Brown, ask me again and I'll knock you down!! He was a major player! I loved that guy!! JB RIP
Ha Ha Clinton Dix is a damn good safety but he is no Sean Taylor. In current football, I do believe that the only guy that could come close to being as good would be Landon Collins.
THE CROWNING GLORY. The 01 Canes stand alone on history's summit. They are in the George Washington position on the Mount Rushmore of great teams. It is unlikely, that any team, will ever be this good again.
Bama fan here, just curious what you canes fans think about miami being irrelevant since this early 2000 dynasty. I don't understand it myself. miami has all the 5 star recruits it could possibly want at its fingertips and more yet you guys are just a shell of your former selves no offense. seems like ever since the orange bowl was torn down the canes haven't been the same. Miami ought to be up there today I mean with alabama, fsu, clemson, and Ohio state. I do hope Mark Richt can turn you guys around because I do kind of miss the sort of rivalry alabama and miami had going in the late 80s early 90s.
Bryan Kinney the thing that kills me about it is Al Golden refused to recruit Florida. he went after Texas and California, while we lost out on dozens of Florida 5* recruits.
Nate Garrett that's really wierd, maybe he thought he couldn't compete with fsu and Florida but still there's alot of 4 5 star florida guys kids that would have gone to miami. do you guys not have good boosters or something? to build a new stadium and facilities or whatever I mean I thought miami was kind of a rich private school. still I think Richt will probably get you back near the top but probably not a national title. just going by his tract record at georgia.
Nate Garrett, I know, due to Golden, Miami lost Joey Bosa and his little brother to Ohio State, Teddy Bridgewater to Louisville, Dalvin Cook to FSU, etc
this is what Booster can buy a college team lol. When you pay for the best of the best expect to be the best. GJ Booster's you put together one of the best CFB teams ever lmao.
Wow Nebraska played about 10 min of bad foot ball and Miami scored 34 Miami played about 10 mins of bad foot ball and Nebraska scored 10 Miami defense was something serious.
Keith Jackson, the greatest college football broadcaster of all time, will be missed. No one covered Miami Hurricanes games better than him.
“MI-AMI”
Absolutely

Why Illini wasn't in that game?
This team is still better than 2019 LSU and 2020 Alabama. 2001 Miami is still the single best team.
could you imagine if we had Twitter when this game was happening??? I’m a FLORIDA GATORS fan but i promise this is the 00-02 CANES are the GREATEST collection of talent ever seen with 01 as the GREATEST College Football Team ever assembled. Vilma’s hit on 85 Red🤦🏾♂️🙈🙈
This is one reason I hated Coker. He never liked to score. We should have put double even triple that score up on them.
They polled the college football analysts and experts a few years ago, and the only team of the last quarter century majority voted to beat the 04 Trojans was the 01 canes.
the greatest team of all time look how Miami ran teams out the stadium
Didn't run Alabama out of the stadium. More like a one dimensional Alabama team ran their overrated asses out of the stadium.
I don't care how good Alabama is today the canes set the pace as the best college football team in History period! Alabama just a reincarnation of the Canes.
5:48 Ken Dorsey is the Real Slim Shady
Total ass whippin,,Greatest College Team of all tyme!
Is this the Rose Bowl. Or just some Pro Bowl highlights?
Nebraska didn't even belong on the same field with Miami.
And back to receive the kick, two NFL hall of famers.
Crouch to this day has nightmares about this game.
Best team that ever played college. Dorsey the best QB that ever played college. Alabama of today, they would have kicked your ASSES.
That Miami defense was a buzzsaw.
best collage team EVER!!!! look at the talent that didn't ever start. the great sean taylor. greatest safety ever . none since as dominant. ha ha dix?
What "Collage" did you go to? lol
Give it a year or two.
Because of the nevin shapiro ncaa sanctions handed down in 05 we lost 30 scholarships for 3 years straight and that hurt us badly recruiting wise
@KR3Wnumbauno may i ask what team do u root for
Remember this game so sad
this is what Booster can buy a college team lol. When you pay for the best of the best expect to be the best. GJ Booster's you put together one of the best CFB teams ever lmao.
Keith Jackson....GREATEST OF ALL TIME
Wow Nebraska played about 10 min of bad foot ball and Miami scored 34 Miami played about 10 mins of bad foot ball and Nebraska scored 10 Miami defense was something serious.
I’ll never forget that golf ball reference after that Vilma hit.
What was Nebraska's Net Rushing Yards in this game?
Back when it was truly Swagger U
