This absolutely worked! I watched this video yesterday and I did exactly as described. I let it sit for 18 hours and just removed it an hour ago. The mould is completely (and I mean completely) gone, the silicone looks like new! No scrubbing at all.
    Thank you sir!

Tried this not so long ago, if you have a vent fan or bathroom window I strongly advise keep them open. The bleach not only does it smell strong it stings the eyes for hours just the fumes im referring to. Be very careful. Keep the shower door & bathroom door closed because its rather nasty. On a positive this method works quite well!

@@SkillBuilder I have old regular cement, and after decades of tests with different paints and solvents, to harden that cement so that mold would not can get a grip on it I gave up and last year I used chlorine, I assume is the same stuff, since is used for bleaching too. Did not poured so much as you, but simple spraying it with a window solution sprayer. It killed it in few minutes. Maybe the solution I used is stronger, it says hypoclorine or something like that 3% solution. and kind of burns the skin. on the hand not visible since is tougher. However the sprayer is dangerous because you can breath the stuff. Once I made the mistake to spray too much, and my lungs did not liked it. Since then I spray fast and keep my breath till I leave the room.

Tried this on the mold that formed on the silicone caulk around my shower base. Mold couldn’t be scratched off. Was going to strip the caulk and re- do it. ( I’m large, shower small). Pulled off the paper and the mold was gone...silicone looks good as new, and still stuck to the fiberglass. Saved me a lot of time, a lot of struggling in the shower, and the cost of the silicone. Got to subscribe after this. Thank you!

If you don't have a removable shower trap, poke a bike spoke (available cheap at your local bike store) down and fish out the hair. The end of a bike spoke makes the perfect hook but you could probably just make a hook in some wire as an alternative. It doesn't take long and is very effective.

I would be careful many plastic trays may be damaged by bleach. Surely after 5 years just replace silicone, much easier than replacing damaged tray / tiles. Best Silicone tip is buy special silicon rubber application tools which have corners cut to different bead sizes , makes application much more consistent.

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  2 роки тому +1

Might be wise to mask off the tray below the silicone with strong electrical tape which could stop the bleach contacting the tray. Also have you ever used the rubbery plastic bead tools which shape the silicone.

Here is some advice on preventing mold:
Keep a small towel nearby and after using shower or bathtub, wipe down all wet surfaces of the bath tub or shower with this towel. End outcome is that surfaces will fully dry very quickly and mold will have hard time establishing itself. This becomes a routine normal thing to do. Allow the towel to dry to be used the next day for same purpose. Should there be any evidence of mold at any time in future, spray it with anti-mold cleaner immediately. By not allowing mold to get established, you will be in control at all times.

Vinegar gets it from the root. Bleach just cleans the surface & if you don't take steps to keep it away if will just come back but a lot of people like the shiny exterior of things when the problem starts from under.

  • @intotheblue50

Bleach will mostly remove the stain but to kill the mould you simply use Boric acid powder in solution purchased from eBay. If you wipe it down where the mould grows it will not grow back. But what whatever you use is going to be diluted or washed away as you shower or as condensation runs down the windows, so you cannot just leave things as the are you must wipe down dry and reapply regularly. I was plagued by mould in my bay window but if I treat often then it is not a plague. Mould spores are everywhere all the time so you have to be vigilant, look it up. But know bleach is scary stuff.

@jammybap. It comes back quickly because you didn't kill the mold/mildew behind the sealant where water has soaked in but your bleach wasn't able to get to. Even with a poultice bleach wont go in as far unless the material behind it is dry and "wicks" the oxidizer into it.

i applied this today around the bathroom upvc window , mold in the grout etc
i used thick cheap bleach , and i used cotton wool , i bought some kitchen roll type rolls of cotton wool , and ripped bits into lines , the cotton wool will stick up walls , and even upside down with the thick bleach acting as a kinda adhesive , leaving it 18 hours plus then will remove and check
if succesful the whole shower compartment is getting the same treatment next

The comments are mostly positive on this video, and everyone seems to agree with this method. Whereas if you look at this video on their TikTok page, it is overwhelmingly negative and everyone seems to be saying this method is a waste of time and doesnt work. How strange.

Silicon manufactures do not recommend using bleach. In fact very few manufacturers recommend using bleach on anything. Also, if the silicon is poorly applied, this problem is 500% worse. I tell all my customers that they must keep the bathroom dry and well ventilated.

My dad use to make poultice for thistles under the skin, they would exit in the morning after a night with sugar and soap mix.

Hi. Have you got any suggestions for what you’d use on a shower with those matte, semi-porous tiles? I’ve used bleach before, and if you leave it too long, it stains the (dark grey) tiles and is nearly impossible to get the stains out. I’ve got a glass screen that goes all the way to the floor/tiles. Cheers.
