There is a reason Max refused to be interviewed by Netflix for a full season
No doubt that's also why they were so negative about him before that.
@@robertvermaat2124 Just like SkyF1,they trash Max
Im sure Max's team hates Netflix. Over dramatizing anything they can.
netflix are forever doing this for loads documentaries and f1 fan like myself get annoyed as people who maybe watch but not know much believe this edited crap
but that has changed...
The real crime is Will Buxton and other British F1 pundits being interviewed and saying obvious things like "When you're a racing driver, you drive" every other minute.
And they portrayed Mazepin at Russia like a genius overtaker when the rain started, but all he did was unlap himself. He was still dead last and Mick Schumacher DNF'd.
Dunno who’s worse, Crofty or Will. Both talentless shills. Compared to Lawrence who still just innocently looks like he’s happy to be there, Will emanates this knowitall arrogance in the tone of his voice alone, and crofty just talks out of his backside for a living, whilst shilling whatever he’s been spoonfed by his bosses that morning.
@@vanbalzup6481 No commentary team will beat the legends that are Murray Walker and James Hunt. I am old enough to have watched with these 2
@@Bloodrayne800 True enough, but even Murray (and later British commentators) were anti-German (I still hear that testy VetTEL) until hamilton signed for Mercedes.
Russian sponsor(s)? ;)
How dare they show mazpan doing something positive!!!
its crazy to me they create all these fake dramas but when there's actual drama they ignore it, like lance stroll when he had a meltdown after qualifying in qatar last year, shoved his personal trainer and gave very pissed off answers to the press, yet none of that was even mentioned. Another one was in japan when gasly was furious on the radio being forced by the team to give 11th place to ocon and the team said something like we'll discuss it later, I for one would've liked to know what happened with all that and considering we got 2 whole episodes about alpine its a mystery to me why didn't they cover it
They want to create controversy but also protect the reputation of the sport. At the end of the day the whole series is one long advertisement to get more fans into f1. I agree though, I'd rather just see what actually happened and what was actually said
@@birdseye2239 yeah i can sort of understand the stroll one maybe there was some sort of agreement in place to not make him look bad, but the gasly and ocon one, they covered their rivalry quite extensively and showed how much they dont like each other, so its clear they weren't shy to show the ugly moments between those two so yeah really is a mystery why they didnt include japan
It’s crazy to me that people even pay for Netflix.
“We’ll tell them it’s a documentary. They pay a monthly subscription for absolute sh*te, they’ll believe anything”.
Wouldn’t be surprised of Lawrence Stroll paid the Netflix crew to keep his son’s name clean
They not at every race
They lost me when they made it look like Hamilton asked if Max was okay after corpse. When in reality he was blaming Max for 3 minutes first.
It was max’s fault that’s just plain to see.

@@Samwarestore Ham fan here, the contact and closeness of cars made Hamilton run wider than expected, i'm tired of of other Ham fans saying it was Max's fault when it wasn't. Ham misjudged the situation and as everyone would have done when you don't think you're at fault in the heat of the moment blame the other driver. Stop acting like drivers, especially Ham don't care about the wellbeing of others.
And that's how you end up with people screaming "F*ck You Max" at the side of a track.
It's all so out of proportions.
Well said…..
you must be new to the sport if you think other drivers before that haven't received hate on that level. Lewis was literally boo'd and insulted to oblivion in Monza 2018 after beating a Ferrari to the win and being involved in the other Ferrari spinning out during the race, even though it wasn't even his fault. that all happened before the first season of DTS was even available. it was just that nobody gave a shit because it wasn't in english.

So it's the newcomers fault they are getting false information by getting interested in something that i imagine would seem real to most people not in the know? because dts twist alot of really smaller details really well unless you watch every race in full? what is this retarded gate-keeping elitism? instead of trying to educate like this video you wanna feel superior over being a TRUE F1 fan? haha
It's like WWE fans believing it is real. DTS fans are so detached from reality.
"Continuity is KEY, Anyway... Later on at the race in NEW MEXICO"
Came here looking for this😂😂
New Mexico🤔😂
And most of them are Yuki fans
F1 is primarily a Europe based sport.
The F1 drivers start career together from go-kart stage. Hence there are no bitter rivalries like NBA, boxing etc in US. The show created most of the fake controversies.
Though, it must be said that it popularized F1 massively in US.
Its all fake scripted reality drama
Its weird, becasue i feel like the only reason DTS exists now is to bring in new fans, completly disregarding the quality of the show itself. Anyone who follows the sport on race to race basis will instantly recognise how fake most of it is, and will never watch it again.
@@tomaszw2729 As somebody who got into F1 from DTS, I'd argue it's very hard to tell what is real and what is not, especially if you're only watching DTS and the races and also if you are new to the sport it's even worse. That being said: sooner or later, if one's interested enough, one does figure it out eventually.
@@nottomclancy2439 Huh, so maybe it's just me. I can usually straight away tell when radio massage is from different race/situation, and when they try to stir some drama where there is little, or even none (Lando and Carlos being glaring example). It just puts me off, because I know it's fake. What's even more bizarre is there is plenty of drama in F1,that's one of the reasons I love it. But as video said they rarely use it in the show, I just don't get it. I'm happy, because DTS really brought a ton of new fans, but I personally can't stand watching it anymore, which is a shame. First season was by far the best imo, I loved behind the scenes aspect of it, and it was still mostly true to what happened in reality. It went all downhill from there.
I think it's safe to assume that all documentaries, especially serial ones, are spiced up and altered in this way. It's annoying but not unique to DTS. Plus it's basically FIA sponsored propaganda. The only place it steps over the line are false characterizations of the drivers. But again any serious fan will know the difference.
That being said I think it's completely possible to enjoy it as pure entertainment with amazing production values, and also enjoy the actual drama of the races in real time.
In Germany we say: ,,Drive to Survive ist Arsch"
Well, we don't need to speak German to understand that 😂😂
Life without netflix is totally possible.
Not only possible, but necessary
yeah as a F1 fan for 34 years (sinds my 6th), i quit watching after a few episodes. They did weird timelines and added quotes I didn't remember from races.
"Lewis is an incredible clean driver" is the same as saying "cleopatra is black" 😂
Well he is,not incredible clean but clean driver, you can say that
Compared to Max he is. He's not pushing people off the track intentionally.
Hamilton may not be an incredibly clean driver (who is) but a very clean champion and far fairer on track than several other multiple world champions such as Senna, Schumacher,Prost and Verstappen.
This what Drive to Survive did to people who don't actually watch Formula 1
@@blobs819901 You nor the creator of this video have no clue what you’re on about. Crashes ≠ being a dirty driver. Verstappens antics at Jeddah, Imola T1, Spain T1 and Brazil was more far ‘dirty’ than Hamilton’s crashes in Spain 2016, Austria 2020 and Britain 2021. There’s far less intent in any of Hamilton’s crashes.
I stopped Watching to Survive to much good guy bad guy. And in a record winning season you hear nothing about it but you get a full episode of Aston Martin.
Exactly
I remember when Charles spun at Melbourne in 2023 BY HIMSELF they just put The commentators and there’s contact over it. 😂
Netflix only distributes Drive to Survive, it is actually produced by the same media company that runs F1 and it was always just marketing plan to build more viewers of F1 races to increase their profits

I think one big problem drive to survive has, is that they only focus on one team or driver during a race. Why focus on Mazespin on the Russian Grand Prix when you could focus on the epic battle between Norris and Hamilton or Max recovery drive. They make things up to add drama, because they not focusing on the right things. They have more than enough cameras to make an interesting show.
Yeah, I feel like they could make a better show going race to race providing more driver insight on each highlight
It felt like they "wrote the script" before the race weekend had even started and then edit each episode to fit that narrative. Then they fill out the gaps with material from other race weekends. Worst part is it works for most ppl who hadn't followed the season in real time.
And this is why Max wouldnt participate. Ofc its gonna be manipulated to get more views, and thats exactly what he didnt like. Good on you, Max 👍!
They lost me when buxton judge all the driver based on his feeling. Not gonna lie, I watch F1 because DTS 1 & 2, but after watching F1, I think I can't watch DTS again
What shameless liar Will Buxton is!! It's disgusting how some British F1 personalities go beyond reason to protect Hamilton, and there's a good chance he's taking those words to be facts.
He's in a certain group not a nice group if you know you know
It’s like the Grosjean crash. The DTS footage had the drivers returning to the pits and watching the flames from the garage before Romain gets out of the car, meaning RG would have been in the flames for over 15 minutes.
Yeah thats when I gave up on the show. There was enough drama with the actual accident and RG surviving. Did not need to make it look like he was in there long enough to be a Sunday roast.
It sucks as a Formula One fan that actually watches the races and knows what’s happening. Also love that team LH has hit rock bottom.
Wdym? Im a Lewis fan , not an teamLH but what happened for those guys to hit rock bottom 💀💀

Everybody knows this right? This can only fool people that never watch F1
Put film crews with every team and follow them closely for the entire racing season.
Then showcases all the stuff behind the scenes.
To fucking easy.
Just show the teams and the race weekends.
It was so funny seeing gunter so upset about losing one place in the first lap. This show is so silly sometimes.
If it was only one place...Mazepin, Grosjean, the glass door,.....
They worried about Hamilton because Max’s car was on top of his.
Now that I’m following the F1, I found the most recent season of drive to survive hard to watch, because I noticed with each episode them jumping around in time making it annoying to watch.
DTS makes out Max to be a bad guy, but if you watch any of the F1 or Red Bull channel content, he seems like a top bloke.
He really is, but the problem people have with him is when he didn't have the clear #1 car, he would dive corners and complain if someone pulled the exact same move on him. It's sports, though. Lots of people are completely different in the heat of competition than they are off the track or off the field. Max isn't much dirtier that other top racers have been in the past, but he certainly forced others to either crash out of races or give him a position. That's racing, sure, but you have to be able to handle that same energy being put back at you. Instead, he just cried about it. Not as much of an issue these days, as his drives are stress-free as he pedals around the track with a 1.5 sec advantage. It's easy to be a hero in that position.
Being surprised that DTS is fake is like being surprised that WWE is fake. Only the Grosjean fireball episode was worth watching.
WWE isn't fake, it's scripted. All the slams, suplexes and bumps the wrestlers take in the ring are real.

This show has made me question every single netflix documentary I see now.
Reminds me of that episode in which Daniel Ricciardo called Netflix "a bunch of cun*s" in one of the eps in S2
If you let them do a historic piece, they'll probably make Berger & Senna the worst of enemies for their pranking each other rather than the best of friends the sport has probably ever seen. ;-)
Sure, Rush also had a "fabricated rivalry" because Hunt & Lauda were actually friends, but at least they get to respect each other in the movie too and both had their rough edges, plus everyone knows it's a movie which will use dramatic liberties.
But actually making it look like a documentary by faking context up to the point of character assassination is a clear no-go.
Netflix Motto: Never let the truth get in the way of a good story....
Took you this long to realize it was all over dramatized? 😂
I never watched that show, Max said around the time the first season came out that it’s all fake
what gave it away? the 14th gear shift round monaco? or the sound of 12000rpm through the bus stop?
No wonder DR is a world championship material
What a reality TV show spins the narrative to create excitement? Thats Madness!
This is normal story creation for all reality programs. In many situations they instigate controversy to cause conflict to build a story. That's not something they can do with a regulated competition. They have to find drama elsewhere.
That is a really long and uneccesary way to say they cannot find shit to sling so they just lie and make it up.
@BB_The_Impaler reality TV was created during the writers strike. Then it became a genre of is own. Now they just poke the bear a little too keep the drama flowing.
U only realising his now? Picked this up immediately s1 ep 1
It's tough being a long time fan talking to new fans who only know the sport through DTS and don't understand the more important tech war beyond the over dramatized story lines. Those conversations end quickly.
Max stopped doing it because they made him out to be awful when in reality all the drivers like Max.
Well most the drivers.
Woow!! It took you 5 years to realise that??
And this is the reason why Max did’t want to co-operate with them.
They painted yuki to be some villan. Lost me after that.

British media when it was Lauda vs Hunt. British media when it was Schumacher vs Hill. British media when it’s Verstappen vs Hamilton. British media will be critical of the continental driver.
I realized the British champions mentioned here all have family names that start by H
It's pretty obvious they lied
“Hope Hamilton is okay”
He said that because max’s car was on top of his head
Yep true. The only reason Hamilton didn't break his neck in that situation, was because of the halo.
Bro just figuring this out... all it takes is one watch of DTS and you can hear all the terribly overlayed audio. I think my favorite part if DTS is when the drivers are taking harpins "flat round here"
Not surprised. A friend of mine was on a major network "reality" TV show and said if they don't show you speaking when words are being said, you can guarantee it's out of context which obviously a format like racing would excel in. Gold mine of opportunities there to create a narrative. Said several times words that he said or people said to him were not in the order in which the show showed them happening.
He also said they'd interview you in the middle of the night and other odd hours about stuff that happened a day or two ago and reframe questions a bunch of ways to get the sound bite they wanted out of you.
When you know your tracks and you see the tracks they’re on. But the screen shows different (SPA, Abu Dhabi) makes you question the realness from the show.
I noticed it a couple of times and laughed it off.
i agree they edit stuff misleadingly to alter the viewer’s perceptions of drivers, but i don’t think it’s fair to say “we didn’t hear any kind of empathy for max’s crash.” yes we did! you literally just pointed it out!

As an American, I can tell you that I get sick of people just assuming that I watch F1 because of DTS. I do not watch American football or baseball. I have always watched hockey, soccer, and F1. Probably the last three sports you would associate Americans with. But nothing annoys me more than being at work (I work a customer service desk job so I interact with a lot of people) and someone comes in and just asks off the bat who my favorite football team is. Then when I tell them I don't watch football, they look at me like I'm crazy. I tell them I'm into hockey, soccer, and F1, and their usual reaction is "Oh, you're one of those people who watches F1 and thinks it's the greatest thing because of that Netflix show." Being in customer service I can't say what I really want to say but I tell them I've been watching since Seb stepped into that Toro Roso in Hungary in 2007. Then you can usually catch a somewhat embarrassed look on their faces as they think to themselves "I guess this guy isn't one of those bandwagon people and he might actually know what he's talking about." And it's so nice when I have on my official Ferrari team shirt on under my dress shirt and I can rub a little extra salt into their wounds.
“Lewis is a clean driver”😂😂😂
A couple of weeks ago the official F1 channel posted a video of champions colliding and Schumacher and Hamilton both were involved in almost every incident 😉
Even SkySports will fabricate the radios. They edit the radios a bit before airing them unless you listen to them onboard. But the ones they play during the broadcast are edited a bit too.
Netflix is going into his decline like every big empire... rising prices and lowering quality. I think I am done with them..
yeah, super hate DTS for this. Like they don't need to fabricate drama.

Good stuff!
3:18 to be fair here, hamilton had a wheel above his head in that crash
And was never in real danger, thanks to the Halo and Crash Structure that he so vehemently opposed in 2018. Max's crash was one of the highest non fatal G force crashes in modern F1, he had to be assisted from the vehicle because of how badly the impact shook him and knocked the wind out. He went to the Med Center afterwards to get checked on, that didn't happen in Monza
@@michaelleblanc6070 i didn't know that, i suppose the commentators didn't either
@@janteo1 the commentators are there to provide a reaction and to verbalize the things that we see. They don't have to provide real commentary on the little things like that for a lot of it. They are there to provide surface level comments and that's really it. If you want to get technical, you have to go to places that provide more of that aspect, ie Palmer's F1 tech breakdowns, or reference materials for previous iterations of cars and the specs on that type of stuff. Most of us don't care to go that deepm
What bothers me most is that the series has been going on for quite a while now, so even the new fans have been watching this for several seasons therefore they’re much more informed than they were five years ago, but they still keep this "F1 101" approach with made up stuff. Even someone who has started now has watched the previous seasons and isn’t needing that much context anymore, let alone fabricated storylines
I remember the Ocon Checo clash on Spa, entire episode saying how Ocon was good, Perez bad, How the poor french guy beated the evil paydriver with tons of money Checo in Q, then said nothing how Ocon lost the position in half a lap on sunday... nor that Perez scored more points over the season... Thats also why Checo became less interested in giving time to them, he also let them in to his wedding...
3:16 nah that commentator makes sense. Hamilton is under the car, he could’ve gotten really hurt. Max was in less danger because of where his car was
Monzas crash was FAR less deadly than Silverstone's. Hamilton was never in that much danger thanks to the Halo and Crash Structure designed to take more than that amount of impact. Just look at Zhou at Silverstone, he was in real danger, but thanks to the crash structure he was unhurt.
Max's impact at Silverstone was one of the higher non-fatal G force crashes in modern F1 history. It was bad enough to knock the wind out of him and cause him to have to be assisted out of the car and sent to the hospital as a precaution.
Monza that wasn't an issue, Hamilton was alright, and quite frankly, the speeds at Monza were low enough to not be super life threatening even if Hamilton's head been hit as the car passed over, so long as the tire cleared past his head.
I am not a Hamilton fan, but that 2 minute late radio is completely fine in my opinion. Its unnecessary to ask it immedietly, since no one knows if the crashed driver is okay just after 5 seconds
Dude, you missed the whole football
@@emilpavlic7689 how did he miss it wdym?
the radio arent even live, how do you know when the fuck he asked.
And it takes that long to get round Silverstone under safety car, that was the first time he saw how hard the crash was. To many people commenting here who obviously don't understand racing. DtS lost me when they made Grosjean's crash look much worse than it was by dressing out how long he was in the car, making it look like no help arrived for ages. Sick fucks.
Drive to Survive's coverage of the Romain Grosjean's crash at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix stretched out time so much that it implied minutes had passed by the time Grosjean appears out of the flames. The crash and the ensuing fireball was sufficient drama as it was, why they had to embellish it further says it all. All "reality" series are the same, if people are being too nice to each other the producers will look for ways to cause friction.
Somewhere along the way, many of the drivers got wise to the reporter in the post-race interviews saying something along the lines "Your teammate called you dangerous". The reporter is only ever interested in stoking the flames to cause a reaction and create a conflict. Vettel, Hamilton, Leclerc, Norris were particularly good at not rising to the obvious bait.
Of course, with Verstappen taking pole and dominating every race finishing 30 seconds ahead of his team mate, F1needs all the help it can get to stop the audience realising that the sport has become a weekend of "blah blah blah blah, Verstappen pole, Verstappen race winner", next.
It’s the teams lawyers fault for not even negotiating a “no lying” clause in the contracts.
You are doing the same thing that you are crying about in this video. Showing Hamilton crashes that's either very long time ago, very spaced our or not even his fault. Thinking you are right ore proved something. Max have had more crashes than Lewis in F1 by miles even tough his career is 7 years shorter. Max litterly got the nickname crashtappen after 2 seasons. Lewis have had many side to side racing moments without contact. The same cant be said about Max. It's sad how multi billion coperations can brain wash the audience but every small youtube channel with zero clue about F1 is just scary.

I've had enough with Drive to Survive since they're not showing Russel try to help Zhou crashing in Silverstone 2022.
They only want to sell the entertainment than the sport & the sportsmanship which is the soul of F1
I'm a VER fan
it is enough drama and excitement in the real sport, netflix dont need to make up stories. I watch DTS, but I follow the races closely. Wonder how Netflix will explane all the Red Bull drama in the next season of DTS.
I mostly hate how they don´t even show a lap chronologically chronologically or do radio´s during hotlaps when there are clearly no radios
I'm a F1 fan and I look at the races and I watch the pre and post interview with divers. I've never watch the Netflix show. Because if you're a f1 fan and you watch the races, you already know what's going on. I don't need a Netflix series, to learn about F1 and know what's happening in f1.
And Danica Patrick reading from a script was the cherry on top
I need more of this kinda content from you
He landed on Lewis head so that’s why the commentator is concerned about Hamilton.. plus you can see max is ok , you can’t see Lewis!
I was about to say !!! It’s more about a whole car over him and a tire brushing his helmet! This is laughable at best. We don’t need Netflix to “fake” personalities, you can watch pressers and other interviews and form your own opinion on people if you really cared enough! They say what they mean, sure things get cut but the drivers are saying what they are saying and doing what they’re doing!
And you got it now? I mean it took you so long? Marvelous!
Drive to survive brought me back to F1 with Season 01....then watching F1 every race weekend drove me away from Drive to Survive...just too difficult to not see how hard Netflix tried to build conflict and drama.
A true F1 fan respects all the drivers. Because we have to agree, they drive better than all our dads.
You can imagine the insanity for next season when the whole Red Bull drama happens
My dad mostly interacts with the sport through DTS, while I'll watch the interviews and the team content and such. It's really interesting how different our views on Max are because of it. From his perspective, Max is this cold, calculating Terminator-like driver whose sole purpose is to destroy the F1 grid. Meanwhile I look at Max and I'm just like, "look at this speedy lil' goober"
when i started getting into F1 (thanks to my brother showing me memes) i remember telling my bro that clips from DTS felt like 'Real Housewives, but for men'. i see i was correct lol. overdramatised deceptive nonsense.
Drive to Survive is not made for an F1 educated audience, it was made primarily to encourage and develop US viewership that enjoy motorsports but would not switch on an F1 race, manly because of time differences between much of Europe, Middle East and Asia, Liberty Media needed Drive to Survive to gain interest in the Sport before investing in a return to Texas and developing the Miami & Las Vegas GPs - without competitive action at the front of F1 for many years, Sky and D2S are making up the best storylines possible to entertain us, it is very much turning into WWE wrestling, and while gaining viewers in North America, viewership is falling across much of Europe.
There’s a reason mentioning DTS on F1 socials during the active season is just a joke anymore. Best part is that DTS leaves out the actual drama that affects the standings and drivers/teams.
I also remember an interview with a red bull mechanic that filled in on one of the races. But instead of showing him, they showed some B-roll from a completely different race
watched 1 episode from the first series Saw Gunter angry in Australia, the footage was Gunter on the pit wall 'reacting' to issues with his cars, only problem was, the entire pitlane was closed, non of the other boxes had equipment, signage etc.. it was all set up just for the reaction shot.. never watched another minuet after seeing that..
I had a quick appearance in the Vegas race, standing behind Carlos. But that clip was shown before his after his manhole accident, which wasn’t true. It was filmed before that practice. All reality shows edit to make for a better storyline
